You can burn a painting without burning the whole house, you know, just take it off the wall first and put it onto a not flamable surface. I doubt that it would help in this case though. If you are haunted by something out of a painting (and ready to believe that you are not hallucinating), destroying the painting would be a reasonable attempt to destroy the thing. But since Pennywise isn't a ghost out of a painting, burning the thing won't do much, you'd likely still be afraid of the figure you saw and even if he can't use that one anymore because you firmly believe you have defeated the spooky ghost painting and thus aren't afraid of it anymore, he'll just find something else that you fear.

It depends on what canon you wanna go for in the 90's IT movie, the only abusive parent was Beverlys dad who often hit her, but wasnt a pedophile like he is in the new movies, Eddies mom was not overweight and her only form of ''abuse'' was being overprotective as she was afraid he was gonna get hurt, but Eddie wasnt suffering from germphobia or anything like that. Generally speaking the adults state of mind in the 90's movie is explained simply as the Derry disease, so many tragical events has caused the town become trapped in a state of sadness that they act like nothing bad is happening, they ignore it as they cannot deal with the trauma anymore. So i wouldnt say that Pennywise made the parents be abusive, but it simply took advantage of the abusive parents and their kids for easier targets, look at Bill for an example his parents are not abusive, yes they still mourn their lost son but they are not abusive to Bill, Ben's parents are not abusive either, in the 90's movie he does have a cousin who is a victim bully, meaning he taunts and bullies Ben until Ben gets mad enough to fight back and as soon as he does so, he runs to his mommy saying that Ben is the bully, but that was taken away in the new movies. I will say however that Pennywise's pressence is certainly affecting the Derry disease and increases its affect on the adults. Another example from the 90's movie can be seen in the second part where Beth tells the group of an event where Henry and his gang was waiting for her and surrounded her and tried to make advances on her, she locked eyes with an adult senior who fully saw what was happening and his eyes expressed sadness and fear over what he saw was happening but the Derry sickness kicked in and simply made him go back inside his house as he could not handle looking at something bad happening.

Maybe there's just something about portraits in religious places. I used to be verrrrrrry creeped out by a painting of Jesus in the church I attended as a kid. It was right at the top of the main set of big stairs, and unavoidable if you wanted to get to the bathrooms. Seriously the worst.

Well, it *is* one of the most powerful cosmic entities in the Stephen King Verse. Haven't watched or read IT in a hot minute so I don't remember, but it was explained why the adults don't seem to give much of a shit/can't see or believe in Pennywise. Afaik part of that is that adults don't give in to their fears and have more abstract fears which it can't easily replicate. Also children apparently satiate its appetite more because their fear is purer. Also because Pennywise is actively manipulating all adults in Darry, as to easier be able to get the children.

@@infinitas. well still food for thought , I can’t remember if the book is written in the 3rd or 1st perspective, we’ve established before that whoever you could accredit as the third person narrator in kings other books can be unreliable and can even have a sort of conflicting relationship with the reader, either way, I’m not picking up IT again for a long time, I get it man that things been collecting dust on my shelf since I first read it, Don’t get me wrong its one of my favorite literary works but its sooooo friggin long, if I had a week to dedicate to it than maybe I might but Lifes too busy rn to read a half foot thicc book about an extraterrestrial clown that can manipulate space time, and phycological aspects of a human beings mind. Unless what he does is less of a phycological things and more of an ethereal realm concept where he moves in and out of what is effectively one dimensional layer up allowing only specific people to see and feel his torment. Either way I remember hearing (don’t quote me in this) that IT was considered weak in the dark dimension he came from. I mean compared to other king horrors he’s practically a God. Pin him against anybody, and I can’t imagine it goes they’re way, even against characters that don’t feel fear like Christine

It's true form is living light in the macroverse. IT is just part of that light that lives in Derry. The Spider form is just what the human mind can perceive IT as. Like the closest thing to the true form.

Apparently that spider is the closest to what it's true form is, and is supposed to be a counterpart to the Cosmic Turtle.
