I'm glad I ran across this Hugh. I watched 'Ocean of Light' twice a few weeks back and was really knocked over by it. The stereo imaging was amazing, the best I have seen thus far. The young woman and her story was the topper for me. It was so beautiful to watch. It was so good I wasn't sure if it was real or digital, but I see dolphins were real in the credits. `I saved it for later viewing . I want everyone to see it.

Thank you. It is very interesting to see how such a wonderful film as “Ocean of Light” was created. And although of course this technique for creating VR180 3D video is not available to me, the approach to creating video with immersion in reality really appeals to me. I will continue to shoot at my level and hope that the new technology will allow ordinary amateurs to create exciting spatial videos.

To be honest I don't understand how they make high budget content without nailing the human eye perspective, it felt like I was a miniature and that throws me off. What's the actual focal length (for FF sensor) you should film if you want to do a VR180 like human observing experience?

Has anyone watched The Faceless Lady on Meta TV channel. A good attempt at a professional 180 VR TV series. It shows how the whole blood and gore thing will need to be handled carefully in VR as it really packs some punch. At least they got some good camera angles and it was watchable. I liked the beginning of one show where it looks like you are watching a flat screen movie but then camera pulls back and suddenly you are surrounded by the actors.

Hi Hugh. How do you create a 3d thumbnail on Meta Quest TV - I can't find this information anywhere? What format do they have to be? Thanks.
@URAZKIVANER
@URAZKIVANER 25 днів тому
I used the link in description and watched it on my Quest 3 . It's beautiful but as a person with OCD I can differentiate some stuff from a real 3d shot scene. First of all when dolphins are close to you you can see that there is no depth map on their rounded shapes and skin textures. Something very close to the camera kills the vibe in the film because of the lack of depth on the actual objects... Despite that having a perfect keyed object closer to you than the rest of the shot it creates the uncanny valley for me to not to see the necessary depth on the object for my brain...

I learn from your videos, but maybe this one the most. I have been shooting in 360, but actually find myself watching 3D 180 more often. I just don't feel the desire to spin around in my chair; it's distracting. My question for you: on the professional side, do you see a trend (entertainment industry, internationally, etc) toward 3D 180 and away from 360, or the opposite, or parallel paths for now? Thanks.
@hughhou
@hughhou 22 дні тому
Yes. Right now in the professional world, we demand more VR180 or spatial immersive 180 content or at least that is what I am been hired for. Not many 360 jobs as 360 is getting too easy to produce now and flooded the Internet. Partial b/c of my old tutorials lol. But I think they both equality entertaining and improtant to the whole storytelling arch

@@hughhou Thank you for getting back to me, if they are not paying content creators, how do they expect people to populate their platform? Also, can make a video explaining how to edit single-lens 180 video and make it available as 180 2D for VR headsets? For example, using Insta Go2 without the lens guard for recording and watching it as a 2d Immersive video, or using a fisheye lens on canon m50, I do not want the 3D!

Just watched it. shooting in 2d was mistake. The depth is all wrong. The dolphins flatten out when close to camera and they look enormous instead to the right scale. Did they even have a witness stereo camera as ground truth? very disappointing.

@oke_doke2894 24 дні тому
5:36 Uh wut? Does the decision to film 2d and post process strike anyone else as outdated? edit: the beam splitter thing. Ok, so the 3d off to the sides won't be as strong as the center. and the first thought is to throw hardware at it with an array of lenses? which introduces stiching. But then, if you really must have strong parralax beyond 90° left and right, why is shooting in standard VR180 with two lenses and post-processing THAT is so terrible?

I said that the conclusion is that there is no uncomfortable place in the stereo of 2 to 3, but it has the wrong proportion, such as shooting people, and the 2d to 3d of people's five features is difficult to achieve. The three-dimensional sense of vr180 lens shooting is very strong, and the converted stereo is not so strong. I think it is a good way to use stereo shooting and then repair some uncomfortable areas in the later period. And the cost of 2 to 3 per minute is probably more than $10,000. This is not affordable for the average vr project.
@importon
@importon Місяць тому
Yeah the conversion was not good. a $500 stereo camera with no post production is far more immersive.
