I remember the yellow wire being called memory cable.
@DIYAudioGuy
@DIYAudioGuy 3 роки тому
Yes, I remember that as well. Red was power and yellow was memory. I don't know if the wire changed or the terminology changed. I also remember AM/FM radios and 8-track players that had a physical dial used for tuning and radio presets. When the car was off these radios had no power. There was no need for power the radio didn't do anything. There would have been a separate clock in the dash. Back when I first started flipping through crutchfield in the early 1990s a clock on the radio was an important feature. Not all of them had clocks. If your factory radio had a clock then there was no clock on the dash and upgrading to an aftermarket radio sometimes meant that you would lose your clock. Those were simpler times.

Thank you AudioGuy for taking the time to explain out many of your builds. I am currently messing around with setting up some 15’s, 12’s and 10’s in a DIY backyard lawnmower shed stereo build, so that I (and the kids) can have some noticeable beats while playing in the backyard. This specific video assisted me with my power supply hurdle that I had with powering a Kicker KXA400.4 amp. (And NO, none of these speakers go over 200 rms.) Tight budget people For the power supply you can use a power supply from a desktop p c , the wiring will be online for brand, etc, join all 12 volts together all ground together and not in use will be 5 volts depending on power supply, unless you want to hook up USB charging separate, etc... to turn the power supply on there is a trigger wire that can get rigger with a ground wire which a switch can be used in between it, or 5 volts trigger depending on power supply,

For portability I connect it to my jump starter packs 12V 10A output. It came with a cable that just happened to be the right one to connect it to the power input socket. I use that same radio for home use. I hook it up to my bench power supply that is good up to 30V 10Amp. I have it connected to some cheap flea market 6x9's. I had a small wooden box laying around that was originally a shipping crate. I sealed it real good with caulk and used spill mats to deaden the wood so it wouldn't rattle. I cut the holes and screwed in the 6x9's. It sounds pretty good for what it is.

After watching your video you got me motivated to get back into the car audio. I would like to build a Raspberry Pi car audio home system, but I am struggling with trying to figure out how to wire the power to all the devices. The system would have the Raspberry Pi, a touch that connects to the Raspberry Pi, an equalizer, and a 360 watts amp. If you have the time and the disposition I would welcome any advice you may have to offer.

There no issue using a computer PSU. I fused all my connections and removed any wires I didn't need. I don't push the PSU past about 50% of its capability. Computer PSU is actually great to use, it already has a built in fan, I built little upstands and put an additional fan on it. No issues with it at all in last 6 months. Runs the setup just fine and did it for same reason, also wanted a test bench as I buy/sell/flip alot of car audio. Hello DIY Audio Guy! I have a quick question for you and I’m hoping you can solve my issue! I built a homemade Bluetooth sound system using car components such as a 4 channel amp for 4 6x9 speakers, and a mono amp powering a 12 inch subwoofer along with a car double din head unit and a 7 band equalizer. These are powered by three separate power supplies the same as shown In your video from Amazon. I have one 40a powering the 4 channel amp, one 50a powering the mono amp for the sub, and a 15a supply powering the equalizer and head unit they are all connected to the same extension cord and I believe everything is wired correctly. Now my problem is the static hissing noise when I have everything plugged in. Now this system sounds absolutely fantastic don’t get me wrong. It seems like everything is working great as it should. But the loud static sound when no music is playing coming through my speakers drives me crazy! I have tried wiring it differently, changing Rca cables…nothing seems to work. What would you suggest or recommend that I do differently?
@DIYAudioGuy
@DIYAudioGuy Рік тому
Honestly, I have no idea. You will need to isolate the problem by removing components. Start by setting gains with an O-Scope or a DD1 (ukposts.info/have/v-deo/f2KGbHemnI-atas.html ). If you have some noise then improper gain settings could be amplifying it, turning a little noise into a lot. Then plug your cell phone directly into the 4 channel amp RCA inputs with everything else powered off. If the hiss goes away then you know that the head unit or EQ was the problem.

I watched the video on UKposts by sundown audio unofficial and they ran a car amplifier on a 20 volt drill battery and what’s crazy is it handled it and it didn’t blow up but after watching the video the question is can car amplifiers really handle more than 12 volts of input voltage
@DIYAudioGuy
@DIYAudioGuy Рік тому
If your alternator is spinning, you're going to get 14.4 volts in a car. Car voltage is an odd thing, it fluctuates. It'll be less than 12 volts if you've been running the radio with the engine off. A lot of competition car audio runs at 16 volts. 20 volt drill batteries are actually 18 volts for the same reason. Some amplifiers can handle the voltage just fine. Some have unregulated power supplies and will actually make more power with the higher voltage. Some have over voltage protection and will go into protect when they sense a high voltage.

What kind of power supply would i need to run a 1000watt amplifier in my home?
@DIYAudioGuy
@DIYAudioGuy 3 роки тому
If you're going to run it at full tilt all the time you're going to need something that can give you at least 150 ampers of current. That's bigger than most standard power supplies. You will push the limits of what a household circuit can handle. I would look at some of the UKpostsrs that test amplifiers, Williston audio labs, budget gem or budget budget, high five Vega, and consider a setup similar to what they use. At that point you might find it cheaper just to sell the amplifier and look for some pro sound amplifiers, something from behringer or crown.

Can a 10 inch speaker use a 5 inch passive radiator ?? I have a CompRT 10 Inch subwoofer kicker. But the space in my car is not enough for a big box please solve it
@DIYAudioGuy
@DIYAudioGuy 3 роки тому
Short answer, no. The rule of thumb with passive radiators is that the passive radiator must be able to displace twice the amount of air as the active driver. So you either need two passive radiators that are both 10 in with the same xmax as the passenger driver, or one passive radiator that has double x max of the 10-in driver, or some combination in between. Another solution is to use a passive radiator that is larger than the active driver. I offer box design services, I would charge about $150 to design a small passive radiator enclosure.

That is strange. Tell me what you're trying to do and I'll see if I can troubleshoot a little over the internet. The first thing to keep in mind is that most car manufacturers do not follow the same color coding scheme that aftermarket radio manufacturers use. I'm assuming that you're trying to hook up the radio from your truck in your home? If you've removed the radio from the pickup truck then you should just unplug the harnesses in the back and you can get an aftermarket harness for just a few bucks. They might even have one in stock at Walmart, they'll definitely be in stock at most auto parts stores.

@DIYAudioGuy
@DIYAudioGuy 4 роки тому
@@lexforeman144 If it's a really thick wire it might be the antenna. The wires in the back for the speaker should be a factory wiring harness. it sounds like someone may have cut the factory wires to remove the radio from the dash. Just buy an inexpensive aftermarket adapter, they have them at Walmart and AutoZone and Amazon and almost anywhere else you might look. The wires will be color-coded and there will be a diagram or description on the back of the package telling you what color does what. Factory wires tend not to follow standard color coding schemes. They like to use their own wiring colors so that it's hard for people to work on them.
