If you’re thinking about cutting the cord, your local ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC and PBS stations are probably among your must-have channels. The good news is that you can get those channels without a cable or satellite subscription. But the bad news is that unless you have an antenna, it's probably going to cost you. In today's video, I share the best ways to watch local channels without cable. Prefer a written version? I've got you covered here: michaelsaves.com/streaming/lo...

Short answer, get an antenna. The problem is that some people are used to watching channel X no matter what. Say you have an older person who everyday has to turn on channel x to watch the news. Trying to get them to navigate through an app can be nearly impossible.

An antenna in Biloxi Mississippi receives six channels. ABC, CBS, Bounce, True Crime, ION, and Circle. Back in the 80s and 90s all you needed was ABC because television shows offered were so much better, but now I'd rather go outside and play with a stick instead of trying to watch the trash offered today.

For a makeshift antenna, you can just cut the end off of a coaxial cable, then strip about 6-7 inches off, leaving the exposed copper wire. Place it somewhere high (I've got mine secured up near the top of a window) and plug the other end into the cable input in the back of your TV. Only one of my TV's has an actual store-bought antenna. The rest of them have these coax cable antennas and get just as good reception.

The problem I'm having is my local PBS station, WPBT, took down their transmitter that was with all the other channels in my area south of Port St. Lucie, FL. and only broadcasts now from the north in Fort Pierce, FL., 20 miles away. With this change I can't get PBS since it is in the other direction of my 100 mile directional antenna that has no rotor! I use the PBS app, which is great, but it doesn't show all shows that are broadcast over the air. For example, last night we tried to watch "Shakespeare and Hathaway" and it was not on the app! Also, not on the app last night was "Father Brown" which was broadcasting a new show last night! My Samsung TV has a PBS app on it but it doesn't have the latest version which has live TV. I can get the latest version on my Fire TV stick but WPBT will not show their livestream in Port St. Lucie, FL. even though it is broadcast in my local area from Fort Pierce, FL over the air! This makes me extremely angry and it makes no sense at all! And, PBS wants me to donate money to them for this poor service?

April 27th 2022. For those of you who still want to watch your local channels there's a very simple way to do so we do in my house. We hooked up a digital antenna to the back of our TV and that picks up every single local channel. Then when you go to get cable you tell your cable company I want the channels but I don't want locals and they won't add that to your package. And when you're ready to watch your locals you just switch it over to antenna and you watch your locals and when you're ready to watch cable again you switch it back to Cable it's very simple. Also out here in New York City there are so many more local channels that are still not considered local in your cable package. We have a channel 11.2 which is called antenna TV and that gets a lot of the old shows from back in the 90s and 80s and a little further back. There's also another Channel, 11.4 which is called rewind TV they give a lot of oldies from the 80s and 90s Growing Pains who's the Boss family Tides Caroline in the city and much much more. And there's a few other more channels local that they don't add to the cable package to different another good reason to add an antenna to your TV and just switch over when you want local. Because a lot of these other website that you may find out there that offer local TV may not be up forever because they're not legit website so good yes don't get me wrong for only a little while until they get shut down and then you're back to square one where can I see my locals again.

@@urs915 Yes, and in many places you can do even better with two antennas. If you have some stations "over there" and some other stations off in a direction at 90 degrees combining two antennas can get you more stations. @kensmith5694 Рік тому
@@urs915 Splitters do lose a small fraction of the power but not much. When used as a splitter, they divide the power in half for each output. When used as a combiner, they add the powers together with some small loss. If you are in a very marginal area, two antennas each with its own preamp up on the mast and a combiner in the living quarters is a good way to go. The combiner is just a splitter run backwards. The little transformers inside work well in either direction.

It would be great if the big media companies, Viacom CBS, FOX, Disney, and WarnerMedia, and NBCUniversal allowed services like UKposts tv to allow for pick-and-pay tv service that would let users pay for cable channels that they watch, instead of a bundled plan of cable channels with channels that they don't watch, but with local channels still bundled. So that users can pay 5 a month for Bravo, and 20 dollars a month for their local ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox, PBS, and The CW stations. That would also be great for cord cutters who have a short list of must-have channels, and for people who can't get their locals with an antenna, and are trying to save more money. The media companies might think about this and decide if they want to allow this, if they are watching this video, and reading this comment. But, for now, your just gonna have to go with what you have.

I am pretty sure it's actually a requirement for TVs to pick up local channels with out a service. However, your video has nothing to do with really getting local channels but streaming services. Especially seeing how we can't use our old tvs any more.

I want to get Roku TV but I'm concerned if it's worth it. Because I want alot of channels and not only regular but also something that can be seen in cable, bc if it's only going to show regular channels then I might as well stick to the antenna get the 68 channels that I have😐

Over air doesn't work for me, even though the transmitters are 40 miles away, My apartment is on the opposite side, I have a hill in my way, The building owner doesn't allow outside antennas (even tiny ones that can't be seen ) I have tried different advertised indoor antennas and they just don't work! I need an outdoor antenna and its sad the FCC cannot mandate my apartment owner to allow me to set up an outdoor antenna OR the owner install a master antenna and change those without cable $10 a month to hook up to the antenna (think if the extra money the building owner could make BUT he is not interested)

This is somewhat off-topic but I can't find the answer on UKposts search that isn't 9 months older or more. I know you are all seeing and all-knowing about streaming channels. LOL I have UKposts TV and they keep offering me 4K programming at an extra cost of course. I was wondering if you have any idea how much 4K programming UKposts tv offers and is it worth it. Thanks
@MichaelSaves
@MichaelSaves 2 роки тому
At this point, I do not think it's worth it. There isn't enough content in 4K on UKposts TV or any other service. Maybe by football season we'll see more games in 4K, but it depends on the networks -- not UKposts TV. Something I'm watching.

@@MichaelSaves thanks for getting back. That's pretty much what I was thinking also. My TV upscales 1080 to 4K and while not true 4K it looks pretty good. They have a couple of 4K Nature music channels if I just want to sit back and enjoy some 4K from them. LOL. Thanks again, enjoy your Channel

The one thing about the network apps/ websites is that the programming is loaded with ads. I pay $39.99/ year for Playon tv. I can record all if the most recent shows on PBS, The CW and the big 4 and skip the ads. This is great for people who can't use an antenna.

Not a fan of Hulu, garbage content antiquated user interface. UKposts tv is decent but their interface also leaves a lot to be desired. When I had comcast I'd say their software and guides etc for cable was the best user friendly and informative.

For sure. I'm hoping Hulu improves its interface for the live TV service, but I see why it's complicated since both Hulu and Hulu Live run out of the same app.

Great advice,but like you keep mentioning most of all your viewer want something similar to Locast . Or puffer tv. I would pay for a couple of abc, nbc fox, pbs, cw live local stream in a bundle package . Why do you think so many Americans go to iptv . They offer local in to different market. That what the broadcasters need to do, Or Congress needs to change the law . This is a big market, waiting to be tap don’t you think 🤔 .
