Many of you have seen the process of making this rotary valve engine with different intake and exhaust system and how I tried to start it.
If not, then let's watch the previous video first:
• I built a brand-new en...
After so many attempts to start this engine, I was ready to give up, but your incredible optimism and support inspired me to try again.
Thank you so much for your support, after reading all the comments I had no right to just give up.
Let's try to run it together.
I've highlighted some of your tips. So let's follow these tips one by one and see if the engine will work.
For those who don't know what the video is about.
I had an idea for a long time to create an engine without valves and springs.
Fuel and air enter the cylinder through a rotating shaft, which in turn is connected by a chain.
At the right moment, a channel for injecting the fuel mixture opens, and after detonation, the fuel is released through another channel.
As it turned out, there were a lot of variations of such engines, and many of them had already been used in the past.
As you have already noticed, I read almost all of your messages and am happy to share my ideas with you, and as far as possible, I listen to your opinion.
Share your opinion on this and leave comments.
With best regards

If you like this, try alos '2strokestuffing' channel. He's fully built a 2 stroke 50cc engine, and is currently trying to tune it to run on Nitro AND supercharged, to make the most powerful 2str 50cc motor for fitting into a bike for top speed runs. Alex also has a quirky sense of humour. it is a GREAT channel to watch if you love all of this home engineering stuff. Another channel is 'AutoBeta2T', where he is copying a famous motorcycle magazine's challenge of tuning a 90's Kawasaki AR50 to do 100 MPH !! (ALL home tuning and building!) I LOVE watching channels like 'Meanwhile in the Garage' and those other two (being a biker too helps! hahaha) 👍👍👍 😎🇬🇧

Wankels - though similar in requiring a little oil within the fueling to help lubricate the apex seals etc - are 4 stroke, but are sometimes considered a '2 Stroke' to some degree.. 🤔

I’m 52 years old. In 1982-1983, I was drawing a mini helicopter in school during science class. I had no idea that a Wankle, rotary motor existed but I drew up a motor without typical pistons and valves because I couldn’t understand why there was so many parts, including moving parts. One of the very first ideas I had was to get rid of the valve along with the push rods rockers and cam. I wondered why there wasn’t a cylindrical shaft that had slots in it to open up at the correct time for fuel to enter and exhaust to escape? Later, I then thought about the piston itself. Why up and down, why not a large cylinder shaped shaft with a slot cut out of its side for a combustion chamber as it rotated. So, to make a long story short, you just woke up a dream that I had always wondered about for more 40 years and now it’s a reality. You are an amazingly talented guy. Great Job my man.

Very similar to a valve train I designed for a science fair in 1979. Poor high school kid so my model was built of wax, and plastic. So cool to see it probably would have worked. Mine used ball valves on a common shaft that wasn't hollow, and turned at 1/4th crankshaft speed so that the valves opened in the opposite direction each time. I worried about compression, and oil seep, and never could figure out how to seal them effectively. Thanks for doing this. I still think about building a working example to occupy my mind sometimes when I can't sleep. Life has a way of consuming all available time.

Later learned about Coates Spherical Rotary Valves. Also read about disc type systems invented in the early 1900s with a hole that rotated above the combustion chamber. They also couldn't get enough compression.

Fantastic! I'd suggest modifying the rotary valve so that it can ride on plain bearings on both ends. Oil seals could be used to control the oil and seal the oil supply from the combustion chamber. The rotary valve could ride on the plain bearings on a hydrodynamically lubricated surface. This would also seal off the combustion gases, preventing a loss of efficiency and lubricant dilution. Also, buy yourself a drill-driven cylinder hone. This would give you much better results, is safer, quicker and easier than resurfacing the cylinder wall on a lathe.

@angusmurray3767
@angusmurray3767 Рік тому
The lack of seals for the rotary valve is the engine's biggest design problem. It causes loss of compression and sucks in oil on the inlet stroke. A partial fix for this is to have separately fed plain bearings at each end of the shaft with viton o ring seals at the outer ends of both ports to prevent oil being drawn in on the inlet stroke. There will still be some compression loss around the annular space between the shaft and housing as high pressure gas leaks to the inlet side but at least the compression loss will be reduced and the engine won't burn oil. Because the shaft is a reasonably small diameter, Viton should be able to cope with the rubbing speed but it is essential to use Viton to cope with the high temperature generated. The groove depth needs to be carefully controlled to get sealing without undue compression of the rubber which would cause it to burn. The system isn't new as this design has been used on motorcycle engines where the rotary valve has been driven by bevel gears.

If you can refine it enough there's some serious potential with your valve arrangement since you'll NEVER have any possibility of getting valve bounce so as far as the top end goes, it could rev to 100,000 RPM and no issues at all at the top, even better than Ducatis Desmodromic rotary valve arrangement that forces the valves to close yours won't even be putting ANY extra load on any of the top end parts. More realistically it could hit 20k rpm if it had a harmonic balancer, no idea of the weight of the piston so my estimate of the RPM is lower, the only way to find out is to give it as much air and fuel as it can take until something eventually breaks.
@lorditsprobingtime6668
@lorditsprobingtime6668 2 роки тому
@@norliasmith Always other limiting factors and the rest of this engine I would imagine is fairly limited but, it's always been the rocker gear and weight of the parts and getting the weight of those valve stems and all components moving up and down being returned by springs that are the biggest limiting factor in how high an engine can rev. This intake and exhaust has potential to handle as many revs as the rest of an engine can stand. This whole engine was built experimentally and even the valve system will need further refinement, this is just a proof of concept, if the rest can be built to rev to whatever, this is no longer the section that can be the point of failure or that just can't exceed a certain amount, that valve system could rev almost infinitely high.
@Oceam
@Oceam 2 роки тому
@@lorditsprobingtime6668 Springs are not the limiting factor in valve engines, freevalve technology exists.
@Wingnut353
@Wingnut353 2 роки тому
@@lorditsprobingtime6668 Another option is to just get rid of all the valve gear by integrating it into the piston and block... both achates power diesels and liquid piston do that. You could think of the liquid piston as an integral rotary valve engine... why make multiple parts when you can just make a single rotor. The achates engine does it by using ported cylinders and forced induction.

Big Kudos on getting your engine to run!!! You are so blessed to have not only the intelligence to design this amazing engine you have the machine shop to bring it to fruition. I haven't seen any of the comments but I believe the finishing point of the intake/ exhaust spindle would be a seal on either end or even between the processes would make this a great engine.

Electro-pneumatic poppet valves can vary the timing. No camshaft needed just a trigger wheel to open and close the valves. Different wheel = different timing. Mount the valves vertical with sacrificial rockers and you can have a few timing mistakes with no harm done. Check out how Fiat built their twin cam 16 valve 1.3 diesel. It’s an efficient and very clever design.

I knew you could do it, I gave some comments but you had it going by the time I posted. You just need to address things like sealing the oil off from getting into the combustion Chamber. Also I would install bronze bushings in the block, where the rotor valve shaft Spins so it won,t wear the block out.That engine can be a living work of art if you keep perfecting it over time. I,m a retired tool & die maker as a racing engine builder. I,m 78 Years old, just do not have the drive you still have. I love this challenge you got going. But you can keep improving it believe me my friend.

A cold air intake? I don't think you understand what that does. A CAI is for cars where the vehicles intake is inside the engine bay, and typically sucks in warm engine air through a restrictive tube that's all trapped under the hood. A carburator like he has is already better and the only improvement would be a nice filter on it as it's already not sucking in hot air. Adding tubing like a CAI will increase air friction loss and reduce his performance while not sucking in any colder air.
