God has a great record on help, just not always how you want. Have you not heard the story about a man drowning, and prays to God for help? Well, a log drifts by and he thinks "I'm waiting for God to save me". A person in a boat comes by, he tells the people in the boat he's waiting for God to save him. The national guard, out on a training exercise, in full gear in a helicopter come by, and he rejects their help because he's waiting for God to save him. Predictably, he dies. Goes to heaven, meets God, and exclaims "I was faithful my whole life and prayed to you daily and you didn't even save me when drowning?" God replies "I sent you a log, a boat, and even the freaking national guard, what more do you want?!" Perhaps another thing you're missing is that God saves the righteous, and there are precious few of those these days

Even today while automation would allow us to work fewer and fewer hours instead the free market makes our hours of work less and less worth. There is a good german novel about that... it is called qualityland by marc uwe kling... i am not sure though if it got translated, but if yes i can recommend it.

Yeah. Ever since farmers started using tractors, combines, ect... instead of animals & hand tools, society has endured nothing but starvation. Truly automation is a threat to economic prosperity.

@@Pan_Z that is not the point. The point is if for example: imagine a new technological invention could allow humankind to work in their sleep. Now instead of working the same eight hours and having the day off, the price for our working hours will drop. The market will expect people to work the whole day and the whole night. Similarly instead of automation giving us more free time we are instead expected to produce more. Once we reach a state of development where from farming and mining up until the selling of goods can be automated either the workers will starve as they are not worthwhile keeping for the market or the price for workers will drop that significantly that automation won't be happening to the degree it could. What will we do once the majority of people can't do work that is worth anything to society?

1. Work does not disappear under automation - new jobs are created, all of technological advancement in history has shown this 2. Humans will not just sit around and "collect wheat" and paint all day if there are no jobs - that's painfully naive, please read Brave New World
