I feel like this whole movie was written only because MGK recently found out “morning” and “mourning” are spelled differently and suddenly thought he was very clever.

They really captured the feel of an awkward middle school play in movie form and added weed.

The fact it starts with him googling what “mourning” means really says a lot about this movie right off the bat

"Good Mourning" is actually a great movie title. It could be a drama about a family dealing with a loss or it could be a murder mystery that involves a morning news show.

I think it'd be funnier if he got a text from a random number that just said "good mourning" and thought it was a threat and someone he knew was going to die. It'd still be stupid, but in a different way.

He said in an interview that Megan sent him that text and he was actually trying to figure it out, while she was away for a few days. Instead of just chilling and waiting for her to come back, he actually made the movie.

i interviewed MGK one time for an internship i was doing and the publication i was interviewing him for was based in Cleveland, OH where he (and I) grew up and he got way too excited ab it and proceeded to try to bond over Cleveland for the entirety of the interview no matter what questions i asked him

"good Mourning" would actually be a really good title for like a dark comedy about someone working through grief directed by Phoebe waller bridge or something

i really want danny to be in a movie where the point is for it to be cliché, but danny's role is just to judge everyone and is totally unscripted

The weird thing I felt while watching is that this movie seems to be trying to capture a quirky “life in your late teens, early 20s” atmosphere but everyone is, like, in their 30s. It comes off a little creepy and kind of sad.

as someone in theatre, his use of props and costumes in his self tape, his apparent lack of slate in the self tape, and his not having been preparing for this huge audition prior to it, are KILLING ME (will there be more things before the video is done? probably)

This is a horror movie, no a documentary...it's completely based on his real life and that's so scary to me 😂 he said that Megan sent that text irl and because her phone died and she had no signal during her flight he thought she was breaking up with him and he literally went through this process calling all his friends and asking their opinion...he said he "spiralled" and lost himself and panicked and lost control thinking she had left him. Spiralled......because of a simple typo.....Like I said, this is a horror documentary.

It’d be wild if in one of those cliche movie where the main character does a big gesture to solve multiple conflicts, it somehow switches things. Like the climatic moment makes the director fall in love with them and the girlfriend give them a job. It’s not like it’s ever really logical the other way to beginning with.

Machine Gun Kelly changed my life. I was a struggling alcoholic, and I thought I was the worst of the worst. But when I learned about MGK, I realized there was someone even worse than me, and I turned my life around. edit: why are so many of the replies saying how they thought I was serious lol

Stoner films were funny back in the day because 1) they were made by comedians/actors and 2) even though it was illegal for the most part, it was still relatable in an unspoken way. Like a “yeah we all know someone like that because we all smoke occasionally”. Etc. But MGK really brought the real experience of hanging out with a ston3r while you’re sober. It’s super boring, it’s like watching someone fight a nap. Also he was a low-rent Paulie Shore in this, which is super sad in and of itself.

10:28 ok, let's be clear with something here. that mantle has basically no structural integrity, especially to support so much weight! those two tiny sticks are hardly supportive, moreso for balancing/keeping it level. the wall mounts are probably kinda garbage with such little attachment space, which is seen when he simply sets down the urn and the whole thing breaks. I guess the guy shouldn't have touched the urns, but either way it was doomed from the start! maybe I'm wrong lol

Honestly that bit with the urn and smoking weed to fill it back with ashes would have been pretty funny in a stoner comedy from 2005. Like a college kid is going home to his family (or to visit his gf's family with her) for the holidays (Christmas or even a summer at a family vacation) and everyone makes a point of how "even though grandma died it's so nice she could still be with us all" then shenanigans ensue and the ashes fly out the window and the college kid goes to smoke a ton and gets super high right before the extended family come and they have a big dinner.

Pete spelled his name out so we would see it was spelled Berry like the fruit, and not Barry like the traditional name. Which I think is the best part of the whole movie. Berry is a great name when it's spelled like the fruit.

When I saw the first scene, I thought this could be kind of interesting. I expected some kind of dark humour movie that tries to make jokes about how the mc tries to handle that his girlfriend committed suicide. I thought the "Good Mourning" meant that she hopes he gets through losing her. My first thoughts were that it was a risky idea but, if it was well done, it could have pretty strong emotional moments while still being a solid dark humour comedy. Then I remember it was a MGK movie.

Danny’s critiques are so right on. Thinking smoking weed is somehow badass or subversive when it’s literally a legal and government regulated aspect of most states. And the opening scene feels like such a simultaneous rip off of every 80s comedy with the 1st person omniscient narration and then every 90s/00s teen comedy with the weed centric lines. I really hate to say it, but there’s something weird and profoundly unfunny about a bunch of ppl in their 30s and 40s acting like teenagers.

MGK ruined Megan’s rise. I was rooting for her after she exposed how Hollywood executives treated her, even at such an early age. How they only typecasted her as the “hot girl” and how she wanted to show her talent by taking more serious roles. And then…she plays a hot girl in MGK’s movie. Gag.

That "water bottle" in the scene where the guy falls asleep in his cereal looks suspiciously like a bottle of what the kids call "lean" and his friend is having all the symptoms of an opioid overdose 🤔 That's why his friend is sick, Danny. His friend is suffering from crippling opioid addiction

Good Mourning could've been such a great horror movie title. Like a parent is learning how to cope with the murder of their child while/or trying to discover who had killed them, when they realize that all along, they were the murderer.
