Look at the facts. Oil discoveries peaked in the 1960s. New oil field discoveries are smaller and smaller. Why would companies spend billions to find new extraction methods unless all the cheap easy oil was already depleted? Open your eyes.

When I was a kid, they were pushing a theory called global cooling. Leonard Nimoy did a big long documentary on it.

People are slowly realizing that and with diamond stimulants becoming more and more difficult to tell from the real thing except by experts. Before cars, oil was used for kerosene, to light lamps and cities, that is until electric lights and power generation came into being. Then the internal combustion engine was invented, and a new use for the oil was created, much to Rockefeller's delight. Gasoline is created as a byproduct of refining oil to kerosene, so they didn't really know what to do with it, except burn it off. The very first cars were electric, but that was abandoned to use the ICE powered by gasoline. Side note; The Teamsters were the guys that used mule drawn wagons to transport the oil from well to refinery. It was the only aspect of the business that Rockefeller was unable to buy up and take over.

Expecting unlimited (and profitable) oil extraction is like draining water from a lake faster than it can be replenished: it'll eventually "dry up". Now, let's assume for a moment that these Russian scientists are correct in their hypothesis that oil is naturally created in the mantle... so what? If the replenishment process takes too long (centuries, millennia or longer), it's no use to humans. If the replenishment process can only take place in specific places, under specific conditions, it still won't cut it. Do you think these Austrians would be going through the trouble of digging 6km and watering down their well to 90+% if they had an alternative? 🤣 Do you think companies like Shell would be prospecting oceanic and arctic wells if there were easier/cheaper options available? 🤣 What I see here is an entire industry gone mad with desperation, after coming to grips with the fact that the profitability of their existing wells has a definite expiration date.

I worked in well logging most of the 80s and the well logs on exploration wells are a closely guarded secret. They even used communications equipment similar to what the military’s cypher equipment used back then to transmit the well data to the home office.

So is the production of silicon for making panels. I worked in a silicon metal plant and they are very, very dirty not to mention the plastic and steel, mining and etc to make clean energy. The production of the elements to make clean energy outweigh the dirty production of these things. No one thinks about these things.

We can also mention that the US has an estimated 4 trillion barrels of oil contained in shale formations spread across the continental part of the country but only a small fraction of these 4 trillion barrels is viable for extraction in economic terms. There is a lot of oil in the subsoil of the Arctic Ocean that has not even been touched and that can reach a total reserve equivalent to 800 billion barrels. The US Geological Survey itself indicated in 2001 that the Greenland Sea alone may contain something around 100 billion barrels of oil.

The US, Europe, and world have passed peak conventional oil production. The only reason there's still fuel for your car is that alternative methods have been developed to find deeper oil, stuck in the cracks of rock formations, as well as deep undersea oil. Eventually, the height of technological advancement will be reached, and oil will be exhausted. I expect oil prices to rise drastically in the next two decades, with oil being a rare fuel for cars by the end of the century.

It's all a game. Most alternatives suck except for nuclear. Coal.. dirty. Wind.. unreliable. If we wait until oil production peaks for good and then starts to decline, it is going to be a very tough road trying to find alternatives so I don't blame anyone for being early alarmists. Maybe it is still 15 years away and we're still a million horizontal wells away but nobody can deny that the average well today does not yield anything close to the average well drilled 30 years ago. Decarbonization of oil production doesn't get enough attention. 15% to 20% of crude oil is burned in refineries to provide the energy to distill and treat the petroleum products. Nuclear heat for chemical processes would be valuable.

@@MrKnutriis Mostly because oil is perfect energy storage solution. It only needs a tank with no pressure, it will not fly away as gas and will wait there until you need it. It also have great energy density and is safe, as releasing the energy requires oxygen which can easily be cut off. That's also why we should not push into replacing liquid fuels with batteries and similar kinds of energy storage. We should simply balance it out. With oil industry it's a bit complicated if we want to equalize the level of carbon in the air and ground. The same goes with coal. There is no reverse process, whatever is burned, it goes into the air. There are only two ways of reversing the process. Plants or CO2 capturing devices. The latter is slowly developed and might be feasible method at some point if we are able to produce large quantities of energy and simply need storage. Imagine such device, uses energy to split CO2 into oxygen and carbon, produces pellet or liquefies it to create petroleum fuels again, it can be stored and easily transported to be burned whenever we need. That would be perfect solution but it all comes down to the efficiency. It is only feasible if the efficiency is high enough to justify it or we have huge amounts of otherwise not usable energy. This might be possible at some point, imagine all of those solar farms and wind farms which may overproduce energy in the peak. If you can't store it, use it. Anyways, first solution is currently more viable. It all comes down to the balance of the carbon going in and out from atmosphere. If it's simpler and cheaper, we can go away from the closed loop (CO2->carbon->fuel->CO2) and create two opposite mechanisms (CO2->non usable material) and (fossil fuels->CO2). We could do that for example by producing biomass (which captures carbon from CO2) and putting it into the ground to prevent natural processes from gassing it again. After all, if you don't do anything, any vegetation will rot or be eaten by bacteria and go back into the atmosphere. So if it's cheaper and simpler, we can use crude oil and replace it with biomass. After all fossil fuels are simply fossilized biomass. If we can't produce and use biomass effectively, let's use fossilized biomass and replace it with fresh one going back to the ground. Obviously this would first require alternative source of energy and would turn fossil fuels from the source of energy (as it is today) to more of conversion of energy. Instead of using energy to produce fuel, use energy to produce something that will balance out extracted and easier to handle fuel.

Once we have that up and running commercially, we can use it as the primary source and create oil for whatever secondary / novel purposes we have (praying that the combustion engine would still exist for enthusiast activities, like horses are right now).

Oil prices have quadrupled in real terms since the 60s. That's the real problem. Oil won't run out any time soon, but it will get expensive enough that renewable energy sources become economical.

There's a great invention in the Philippines that generates electricity it's a generator that generates electricity from radio frequency. It says it will change the future we don't need oil or coal to power everything on the planet. It's in youtube.

It's not finite, it is constantly regenerating, but in smaller amounts, and take millions of years

That oil isn't normal oil,that oil is tar oil which needs to be mined and not drilled for.That oil needs to be mixed with fresh water to send it down the pipes.It's extremely toxic.
