Guys! The engine is actually is SOHC, as the second pulley is there for looks. I receive increasing number of comments about this, and I wanted to address it. Love your videos! I run a small lathe too and think I have a worthwhile tip for you. Try the honed carbide inserts marketed as "for aluminum". They lower the load on your machine and produce outstanding surface finish. They cut steel just fine (they are still carbide after all). The honed sharp cutting edge also lets them take the really fine cuts for those times when you need to remove a half thou to put a part on size.
@RickBaconsAdventures
@RickBaconsAdventures 2 роки тому
I learned that the "M" in my CCMT inserts for my smaller lathe means "molded". I got some CCGT "ground" basically honed which are "for aluminum" and they make aluminum parts so perfect that you can't tell that they're spinning. I have not tried them on steel but I haven't had any complaints with my steel inserts. I find that cheap molded inserts aren't always as sharp. Buying some real brand name inserts can make a huge difference .

Also, I can't say enough about your fabrication skills. You are definitely a God in the RC game. I was just talking about my old Traxxas E-Maxx (yeah, I know, ewww...electric motors), but it had dual 12 turn Titan 550 brushless motors, a full RPM steel chassis, RPM unbreakable chassis arms, steel driveshafts with a steel center section and spools in both diffs, matched 7 cell Li-Po battery packs, and steel counter gears. It also had aftermarket shocks and springs with 100 weight oil and aftermarket wheels with the soft knotty tires and MAN did that thing move. I put all new Tamiya servos on it and it would go anywhere. I also had an all aluminum linked rock crawler that was so much fun to play with. I did have a few nitro cars as well, but back in those days it was big money to get a controller and receiver that was strong enough for me to go fast and still have control at further distances. I'm sure RC technology has come a long way since then, but I had close to $2000 into my E-Maxx. When I moved my cousin sold mine without telling me and I was just screwed.

The 1/4"-28 thread on the crank is a common standard on 2 stroke nitro model engines. This looks a lot like the "OS" style crank output standard used on smaller nitro engines as opposed to the longer more common "SG" style used on most .21 cubic inch (3.5cc) and larger engines. I guess they tried making it more compatible for off the shelf clutches. The thread on most nitro glowplugs is 1/4"-28 as well.

@@TestECull point of referencd ? 0.25hp does move a lot of things
@TestECull
@TestECull 2 роки тому
@@DarkIzo Its about the performance of a tamiya grasshopper. The car in this video is too damn heavy for this engine to only be making 0.25; would barely be able to move at all. Another point of reference: A 0.26cid single cylinder 4 stroke from OS makes around 0.3-0.4hp at 10,000rpm or so. This engine is revving twice as fast and is twice the displacement. If it truly is only making 0.25hp it would have MAJOR internal issues causing terrible peformance, likely severe enough that it would barely even run at all. Engine is really making somewhere around 1hp. The way Johnny's car performs is about on par with how rtr nitro TCs with 1hp engines perform.
@DarkIzo
@DarkIzo 2 роки тому
@@TestECull i dont have any experience with model cars, but working with electric motors i know that 60 watt is enough to some heavy hardware going, noe triple that power i imagine it might not be as useless as you think, but them again, i dont have any experience with rc cars

Very cool! It did however seem to have trouble keeping the donut going, which indicates clutch slippage. Heavier clutch shoes, with a suitable spring (to allow disengagement at low RPMs) should help, although, it could benefit from a whole new engineered, bespoke clutch system. Using a pressure plate style system, with a custom governor, utilising lever(s) to gain mechanical advantage, to get more clamping force on the clutch disc would achieve better results, albeit at the cost of extra work and materials. The guy from 2 stroke stuffing makes his own friction pads out of cork sheet for his clutch shoes, albeit it on moped. Up to you Johnny! Keep up the great work!!😉👍

The clutch you are talking about trying to make for an R/C car would be a huge waste of time... There's not a thing wrong with the centrifugal style that have been used on R/C cars for decades.

Amazing 👏 RC has come such a long way in the last decade with the onset of CNC and 3D printing, it's like anything we can imagine almost we can make or find out there nowadays. I have 1/4 and 1/5th scale both RC cars and boats and originally getting into the 1/4 scale stuff was very very difficult and extremely expensive because if you couldn't make it yourself or have the tools or knowhow you paid dearly for the parts and pieces you needed. Now just hit Ebay and it's like a Walmart for anything RC size except still 1/4 scale cars. But I only have one 1/4 scale lol so it's fine by me, 1/5th is the best way to go with large gas or electric if that's your thing? But that's very impressive that little 4 cylinder is capable of turning those rpm's and not blowing up! It's really right up there with my high performance gasoline engines, just tiny sized though. So cool to actually see someone mounting one In a actual car finally. Anything I've seen so far is people just make static displays so they can run them..... but very good and it performs better than I thought it would as well for its weight!

From what I see, it's a huge improvement in the chassis/RPM/confort on road. It look like this version have less torque but higher rpm open door to better speed and better handling with gas management. The only bad point is.... How could they don't so bad looking ? It's look like a school module more than a very cool small engine Ith water cooling 1nd camshaft... Did you plane to open it and improve it ? Or mod it for better looking 😇 Continue this way it's so cool ! Cheers 🇲🇫
