It’s actually a REALLY bad habit Dr Peterson has. When he says “and you can tell what you think of this” it’s him showing self consciousness about the fact that he knows he should ask a question or stop talking. He’s self aware enough to know he’s being a bad conversationist, but he doesn’t have the humility self control to actually stop. He does the exact same thing as a host, and there are entire episodes where he just steamrolls kind, interesting, guests who his audience, like myself, would love to hear!

@@alvalankerofficial I had a friend who went to jail addicted to benzos, heroin, and was shooting cocaine. They made him go cold turkey from all 3, but the benzos was the real problem. He was a HEAVY user multiple bars daily. He had seizures, and he didn't recognize his parents. His mother would call me crying hysterically saying "I don't think he's ever coming back. He's completely gone." It was horrible. He got through it though, and he came out 3 or 4 months later looking like a full person again. But he couldn't stay away from it, and he's back on Xanax & methadone prescribed both. Even then he sometimes tries to use heroin, and has overdosed at least 9 or 10 times. I don't know how to help him. We started using drugs when we were like 15, and it's been his whole life. I never got on heroin, but I was addicted to oxy. I'm stuck on subs now which sucks, but it has allowed me to have a regular life where I don't even consider going back to oxy or dope at all.

If you don't know there is a forum called benzo buddies and some of the withdrawal reports are shocking. Benzos are clearly the most addictive drug and you can just fall into addiction without even realising it.

That was masterful TBH. Most folks I've listened to growing up share the relevance of these stories will try to take them so literally where in some cases the message is about avoiding personal internal/external suffering vs being swallowed by a fish and God destroying a city.

It helped me heal childhood trauma. I was raised by a single mother who was emotionally abussive and I found my father death from a heart attack when I was 8. He was 36. So I had a interesting childhood to say the least. I also found my grandma hanging from a rope.

I am in my 70's, and much of the same wisdom that comes from JP was related to me by my teachers in the 50's and 60's. From what I read of schools and the teachers of today, it explains one major factor contributing to the deconstruction of our once civil society.

The reason why Jordan Peterson always breaks down everything into the tidy bits of understanding, is because he goes out of his way to portray himself in such behavior. We fail to understand that the only way you or I can understand how people function as a collective and individual, is analyzing our own conducts and behaviors in life and owning such episodes, so that we don’t get stuck in them. We all have behaved in one moment or another, or for a day or two, in any of the personality traits he described…unfortunately not everybody is willing to break their own ego and humble themselves to accept it, express it, and deal with it, like he says, for so many people it’s just easier to stay that way and that’s when they become definitely one of those archetypes.

I watched the entire series of Peterson breaking down the stories of Genesis several years ago, and I don't really care how right he got the message from the original authors, because there's a whole array of lessons/morals-of-the-story/etc that he describes which are perfectly applicable to anyone living in the 21st century

@@aWomanFreed Probably should have googled this, but im lazy, I believe he was withdrawing from Klonopin (clonazepam) daily use presumably for anxiety/sleep, pretty sure he did/does not have a seizure disorder, and after an extended period of time of use sometime after cessation he got so bad he wound up taking a trip to like Russia or someplace where they will put someone into a medical coma to basically get one through the withdrawal period. Serious stuff, probably should verify it.

I agree. I find that JP looks at Bible stories for the meaning behind the myth and symbology. Sort of like how Joseph Campbell did in his Power of Myth series. So he doesn't come across as an imposing worshipper.

@TheGreekPoet Agreed. As someone who grew up in and struggled with fundamentalist Christianity, myself, Peterson's approach to studying the Biblical narratives are inviting and thought-provoking. I've enjoyed his Biblical series quite a bit. Granted, he catches criticism from both the fundamentalist and the secularists, but I think there's inherent value in what he's trying to do. I've certainly benefited from it.

​@mlineberry25 The main issue with the Bible is that it's false and most of the meaning behind the stories are bad, lazy or uninteresting from a philospohical standpoint. Joseph Campbell's work on the monomyth is interesting because it shows how humans are primed biologically to be attracted to very similar story structures that transcends culture and geography. Which is the opposite of what Peterson does by jacking off the Bible for his right wing grift and pretending like the bronze age fairy tales of the Bible are uniquely important or philosophically interesting. Philospohical thinking has comes so much more advanced and interesting than the crap in the bible. Aside from the texts historical significance in history, it is largely pretty boring, 1 dimensional and wildly out dated by modern study.

That's an entirely different conversation, and it's the way that conversation should always go. And I say that as a Christian.

@@joeday4293 That isn't what the Bible says. It is not "believe" anything or burn in hell, its accept an offer or be forever unmade. Even some who believe in God will not accept him, Gods only after those who will, those who won't are unmade. The point is to accept the gift of the one who took punishment in your place, that you don't deserve and cant earn, or you will simply not exist anymore. You aren't owed a life you were given, you are offered an eternal life that you don't deserve.
