Thank God I got arrested one day and that was the end for me and have been clean for almost 10 years and now working with a recovery organization. Thanks for bringing awareness to this area. The one lady was right. Stop enabling them. My niece was on meth and everyone kept doing everything for her. Paying her bills, giving her money, making excuses for her, letting her stay at their place, letting her bring other meth heads around. I went in kicked her and her friends out. Within 2 months she hit rock bottom and now she's been clean for over a year. She has her son fulltime, a job, a house, a new car. Stop feeding em and stop giving them money and excuses. Everyone has some form of trauma and we still do what we need to do without being addicts.

I love seeing that there's other people out there helping people who are obviously so sick it makes me so sad because I've been there I was homeless I was shooting heroin It is a miserable existence a vicious cycle that you just feel like you can't get out of cause you've dug yourself in such a deep hole and then when you get clean you have to come to terms with all the stuff you did to people you love. A little compassion goes such a long way.

@@rustyshackleford9456 I'd disagree, just because there wasn't a drink in her hand doesn't mean she doesn't have a vice of some kind, everyone has one whether it be drugs or food. Ridding them of any help does not rid someone of their addiction, it just makes their life tougher and more dangerous. That pulling yourself up by the boot straps mentality has never helped anyone, it's ignorant and selfish and comes across like they're putting their self on a pedestal, their way is the only way. Philadelphian here, first off, amazing video. Secondly, whats so sad about Kensington is how preventable it was/is. Only 10 minutes east of Kenzo and you're in Fishtown, which is like a micro San Fran inside Philly. 10 minutes south and you're in Northern Liberties where concert venues and very strong communities hold together, and 10 minutes west is Temple University. With all that said, Kensington is only about 2% of Philly, and our leaders and citizens simply don't care.

I often think about all the people I dropped off there, and how many of them probably died. I know they'd find a way regardless, but I can't help but feel a slight guilt. It really is the most surreal and depressing place you will probably ever experience. Even worse than skid row. Lost a lot of friends I grew up with living in this area. Skid row in Brazil is on another level. Worse than here. India. Wow slums of India is worse than here. Way way worse. No toilet dead body floating on river where people ask defecate and wash themselves at the same time. There’s a ringleader that owns beggars and some women chop their arm off to beg more effectively. They came up to my driver while I was there and he told me not to open the window. I’ve never seen such sad situation. Then loaning babies. Yeah people loan babies so that they can effectively beg more money. Slums of India is the worst I’ve seen. East Hastings in Vancouver is also pretty bad. Drugs and prostitution capital of the Western Canada. I’ve lived not too far from there. Obviously not right near it but I could walk there in 30 min. The worst place in Canada. I agree with the lady with the pink thing wrapped around her head. As a former heroin addict, having been on the needle for 11 years, the kindness that was shown to me by a lady who took me in off the street and fed me and clothed me and didn't ask me for a penny for years gave me 1, the breathing room I needed to process everything, and 2, just the right kind of guilt trip! Her kindness ended up wearing me out and I finally broke. That 82-year-old crazy old lady killed me with kindness and made me want to be better. I met a girl in rehab who lived in the suburbs... Abington. About a month after getting out of rehab, I had allready got myself back in the shit, to the point I was allready on the run from parole. The girl I had met from rehab told me I could come and stay with her, so I packed a garbage bag full of clothes and shit and I drove 4 hours there. She was living w/ her parents..nice house, good family, ect. I was only there about 4 weeks. Every day, we took the bus to go get on the L and got off at Kensington & Somerset.. we got our dope, we walked a couple blocks and got high. In less than 4 weeks I had overdosed 4 times, watched her OD once, watched her friend OD, got involved in a hit and run and then drove over to Jersey all f****d up on dope & zannies, just to pull into a parking lot to ask some dudes how the f**k do I get back to Philly. Those dudes ended up being cops. I was arrested, did a few weeks in Burlington County and ultimately went Upstate after being transferred back to my county. The 2 years I did upstate ended up saving my life. 10 years clean, living a normal life that I wouldn't give up for anything. The girl I met in rehab wasn't as fortunate. 7 years ago, she overdosed and that time she didn't come back. If Kensington brings you in, your lucky to make it out alive. That's not some morbid, scary quote to make a person "think," it's the f*****g truth. It's a God damn shame that the people with enough power to do something about that place-dont f*****g do it. I’ve been on suboxone or methadone for just shy of 10 years now. Was completely taken over by oxycontin, then hydromorph, then fenty. Opiates were something that just jived with me physically and emotionally like i was made for it and it was made for me. From my first time to my last it made me feel alive. When i first tried to taper down and actually truly quit the withdrawal was so powerful it scared me to death. It was such a visceral reaction mentally and physically - it felt like i had a serious bout of depression, with food poisoning, influenza, and a broken spine while having my body torn apart by dogs. One time I vomited for 24 hours straight until my stomach lining tore and continued to vomit blood. I tell ya… it was a lot of rock bottom suffering but finally I started to win the fight and now im about 5 years sober. Im unfortunately still on suboxone to this day but completely stable and no more mental addiction, only physical. So technically they call me a drug dependent, not addict anymore. Terrible disease. I now have 2 kids, a career job and own my home and property. Just need to manage that last step of tapering off suboxone, but easier said than done.

That was a pretty accurate description of the withdrawals. Just absolutely unreal. I truly am thankful for being able to wake up in the morning and not feel like absolute shit. I love weed. And kratom didn’t do SHIT for me for the withdrawals. Kept hearing that it was a miracle herb and that it’ll just take all the withdrawals away. NOT FOR ME. So that just added to the frustration of withdrawals. Just a horrible horrible time.
@CL-yp1bs

I used for over 10 years.. i quit multiple times and always relapsed for one reason or another... i finally went to suboxone and have never had more success in my life. i've been sober for just over 4 years now. no cigarettes, zero alcohol. the suboxone makes my brain normal again besides for some side effects like emotional numbness, occasional constipation. I have lowered my dose from 12mg down to 6mg to reduce side effects..i may go down to 2mg or off of it.. but beyond 2-4mg is where things get very tough. But i have successfully tapered off completely before for about 2 months (final dose was like 0.10-0.2 mg you must use a milligram scale for measurement) and had cravings even after most of the acute physical withdrawals were over. the post acute withdrawals can last almost a year so the best way is to go very very slow, but in order to do that you really have to be extremely disciplined about not taking more than what your taper plan is.. I always take less than i am prescribed so i have extra. i always keep it with me so somebody does not steal it. stuff like that is the reason i want to taper off.. but all in all my life is way better than before.. i used to shoot 1/2 gram of black tar every day and now i am in college working on an engineering degree.. so to say the suboxone helped me would be a massive understatement. i dont recommend methadone to anyone unless you are using it for harm reduction... but dont see too many issues with staying on suboxone forever. with the crisis going on you wont find any issues getting a prescription. But if you are trying to emotionally wake up a lower dose or coming off is usually required.. but you open yourself up not only to positive feelings but negative feelings and cravings as well... i know its possible because i have done it before.. but you first need to be off all nicotine, and sure AF no alcohol... once you are very stable financially and physically you can do it.. my issue was i was broke and had a crap job when i tapered off... plus i was vaping and drinking... so i failed... but I plan on giving it another shot once i finish college and am stress free... until then i am an easy patient for my doctor, i go in 4 times per year for refills and that's it. biggest downside is fear of losing it and the emotional numbness... but it is vastly outweighed by the positive side effects.
@CL-yp1bs
@CL-yp1bs Рік тому
@@KassAss420 Kratom you have to buy large amounts online and eat it by the spoonful.. only issue is you'll have withdrawals from that stuff (i've had them)... its no joke when you extract it and take it in large amounts... i always recommend gradually smaller amounts of suboxone to taper off, kratom is expensive, nauseating to drink a bunch of and difficult to dose consistently.

That's one of the most underrated realities with addiction that a lot of people don't realise. The US sends them into detox centres, but all detox centres do is treat you through the withdrawal stage, it doesn't actually continue through to post-care treatment to help continue fighting against the cravings. Took me 3 years before I got my cravings under control, and 5 years before I could mix with society again - it's genuinely a very long process and a hard one at that. What they've done in Portland, by decriminalising it all, is never going to solve the addiction issues, because the moment people come out of detox and are thrown back into the city (which has turned into an open market drug vendor), people are going to cave in to their cravings and will be back using all over again. These people need to be sectioned and put into secure facilities with sufficient medical staff overseeing their process. But the US doesn't run a public healthcare system, it has a health sector, so none of that actually exists which is why the fentanyl epidemic in the US is going to continue to spread and grow exponentially.

I o.d once on H and I woke up in ICU deff in both ears from it. Have regained some hearing back months later. Luckily my wife found me when she did. I also suffered a heart attack at the time in the ambulance. Haven't touched anything since then. Luckily I have an awesome doctor to help with getting on the right meds. Good luck everyone who is struggling. It's not worth it in the end.

It's crazy cause I walk these streets every day. I used in Kensington and also been clean as well. It's a system that's never going to end. Cause the dealers give samples and the homeless are fed clothed and it gives them a reason to stay and use. It's sad as hell and depressing and I'm glad to have escaped I now am a resident of fishtown and try to give back and help because you never know what a person is going thru so I never judge anyone

I bet they go to church. We need good people like them. Our society is spiritually bankrupt. Everything is materialistic and fake. Spirituality is a big part of sobriety. The problem with rehab centres is a lot don't have any 12 step programs. If you want to get sober, you need a higher power. Full stop.

My older brother has been gone for three years. Died from cardiac arrest he was a fentanyl addict. I could never understand why he would do what he do until now. Thinking back I realize just how shitty of a human being and a shitty younger sibling I was to him. The two men at the 8:45 mark were exactly how I was to him. Didn't want to be bothered or around him just waiting for him to make a mistake. He was going through fucking hell by himself and instead of being there for him and trying to get him help I turned my back on the one person who always had mine. Had I done that one simple thing who knows if he would be alive now unlike my grandparents who did all they could I didn't lift a damn finger and I know when my time comes I'm going to hell. There's not a thing I would not give if it means bringing him back but I can't. I have to live with this knowing just how much of a shitty person I was. I don't want pity but if I can get this message out to others who are going through it then perhaps your situation can change. If there is someone you know or love who is addicted to drugs DONT TURN YOUR BACK ON THEM SWALLOW YOUR PRIDE AND OPEN YOUR HEART DESPITE THE INFLUENCE OF DRUGS THAT STILL A HUMAN BEING.Do everything in your power and then some to try to get them help. Don't look down on them like you are better than them cause you aren't you were just fortunate enough to make better choices. Don't make my mistake and spend the rest of your life hating yourself as you stare at your older siblings' obituary regretting every stupid choice you made till the point of your heart aching. Make a better choices than I have cause at the end of the day once they are gone..they are gone and the only thing you are left with is memories, your consciousness, and what could have been. Don't let them die...

Your stories and feelings are the impacts that we addicts have on our loved ones. Your sentiment is heartbreaking heart felt and appreciated BUT… the reality is that no human power can help the afflicted who are not willing and open to accepting it. Please do not beat yourselves up … the best you can do is to stay accepting and loving of people warts and all. Giving addicted relatives $$ on a consistent basis is not helpful in the greater sense but if you accept that they are going to use it for drugs then…at least you remain loving and available for when they are ready and willing to change their lives for the better. For me the only way I have been able to build any sense of self worth is by staying sober and sharing my experience in hopes that a higher power will work thru me to help others. I have to give away what has been freely given me…

Pay it forward- find some other way to honor them by speaking out or contributing to prevention or healing, but definitely don’t hate yourself, the drug brought darkness into the lives of all involved and at least you have love for them still now. Convert it into release, action, they may be blessed on the other side by transforming the suffering of all into something good.

I used to go to a couple boxing gyms around those areas. I would come outside the gym and see people nodding on the steps or empty jars and needles on the ground. One of my coaches was 81 years old he would sweep outside the gym everyday. If you from philly and you boxed you’ll know who I’m talking about. Charlie from harrowgate boxing gym he trained Danny Garcia and a fee other fighters early on.
