I've never been much of a fan of Virtual and Augmented reality headsets because of their clunky implementation. VR headsets are simply too big for continuous use, and the AR glasses are not necessarily well received by society given the use of cameras on your face all the time.
For 2022, it seems companies have decided to change things up a bit into simpler territory. Back at CES we saw a few companies show us something that actually makes a lot more sense for the average consumer, and which is pretty much what we got to see today.
These are the Lenovo Glasses T1, not a VR headset, not an AR headset, but instead more of a TV that you can use in your face. Reporting from both New York City and Berlin and with Adam Lein on Camera I'm Jaime Rivera with Pocketnow, let's dive in.
Pocketnow's coverage of IFA 2022 is sponsored in-part by Lenovo

This type of product will completely change our world. This makes your phone a complete desktop replacement. You can now have a full monitor with you everywhere. Coffee shops will be full of people staring at their glasses like zombies! Match these with a portable Bluetooth keyboard and use the phone as a mouse trackpad and you are all set to do real work from any location. You don't need a desk or office anymore. Starbucks is your office. The library is your office. The airplane is your office. Your RV is your office. I am dying to put this together and try programming some algorithms. Sounds like it's all about a year and a half till this is all practical.

Most of these media HMD's have not fared well in the past. I have a few, they seem awesome but the practicality when I got them did not really pan out in any aspect except maybe using then not to disturb my GF at night. Of all of these simple non android HMD's I do recommend the Avengant Glyph over any other for its cost effective value and better features.

I want to know how useful these glasses could be for day trading with multiple virtual monitors floating in front of you instead of having to use a VR headset.
@WolvenSpectre
@WolvenSpectre Рік тому
It works differently. A VR headset tracks in space so you can look around, this is like someone put a big floating TV in front of you and when you turn your head you keep staring at the middle of the TV. It is like you are wearing a hat that has a TV attached so you are always facing it.

@@kreasu True but to get wide adoption which they appear to be pushing for with this media blitz, it would have to be significatly more affordable than a recent top tier VR/AR set. So compared to something like the real or viture how do these stack up? Highly considering picking up the Lenovo legion Go and want some kind of XR glasses to go with it I've been looking at the viture mostly because the specs seem better than most of the similar glasses on the market but I heard about these but can't find a lot of info on them or people that have first-hand tried them.

A product like this needs to do well enough to make it to an iteration with hand tracking and stereoscopic gyro capabilities. Or be bought by a larger company that can make that happen. Next would be a screenless smartphone that is completely optimized for this ar device in both software and hardware. With every generation of screenless smartphone remaining compatible with the frames for a certain extent.

@lordofOavn
@lordofOavn Рік тому
I don't like the idea of having a screen so close to my eyes, and that it's not adapted for person with glasses, I would prefer an entire opaque glasses with a build in projector and a 360 camera on the outside to have an eyes on the environment surrounding you. Moreover the privacy on a screen can also be achieved with very simple privacy screen filter you can buy around $30, and if you really don't want anyone to see anything you can be a bit creative and add wall around your computer or put your computer in a box. I still prefer the concept of the hololens where you can interact with a holographic screen (who is moreover private), but it will entirely depends at which price you will sell the lenovo T1. I would also prefer a version without the included speaker (speaker and privacy isn't really the best compared to headset) for two reasons : without the speaker it would be cheaper and lighter, if the battery work on a cable it would be as if you were wearing normal glasses.
@10Filip
@10Filip Рік тому
You just compare a pair of glasses to using a computer with a box around it? You miss the point here. The optical distance is extended with lenses, also if you have some viewing disabilities these can still be compensated with inserts.

I wonder if these are limited to only showing a virtual screen on a 2D plane in front of your face or if they will be compatible with stereoscopic 3D media like from UKposts. Since they at least have an accelerometer I could see these being a great alternative to Google Cardboard for extremely basic VR content, instead of strapping your phone to your face.
