Instead of dragging it over the ground, have you thought of rolling it? We've moved sheds a couple of times using PVC pipe as rollers. When it was up hill we used a winch tied onto a tree. I've helped move very heavy equipment with the help of a Johnson Bar and metal rollers several times.
@heatherk8931
@heatherk8931 3 роки тому
I vote that method also. Me, by myself, moved a 100 gallon fish tank 25' on "rollers".actually they were weights from my window sashes when I upgraded.

When I was a kid we moved heavy wooden rowboat and small sailboat from a barn to the water at the Maine coast using 4 or 5 logs 8 to 10 inch wide, and the rope up and down the rocks. No machines, just 2 adults and a few kids . It wasn't hard with lots of help.

ART, I'm pleased to see you work on saving this shed!! About 50 years ago I watched an "old" man lift a small wooden garage that looked like this shed with just one of those jacks. He lifted it, built 3 low walls of stone, and straightened it out over several days. I kept checking in and have thought about him often as an example of yankee strength and thrift, skill. That was in Port Clyde, Maine. I had friends who were part of the back to the land movement in the 70s. Always wished I could have done it too,I but it wasn't ment to be. I live in western Massachusetts USA. Thanks.

Absolutely. You're jacking an old shed that might flex or snap that is supported on irregular blocks (irregular shape and material) if it shifts, it can fall off the supports. If you're unlucky, you could have arm or leg under it when it goes. (If you're really unlucky it could be your chest!) Having someone else there could end up saving your life.

Make sure to put a brace from sled to sled runners in the front & back. that should keep the runners from tweaking and collapsing your shed. When you get it to its new location build a short cement foundation to fit under the shed to keep it from sinking/shifting in the future.

Thanks for sharing your great bracing and prepping 👍 for the shed to be moved! I had a boyfriend that made a living moving buildings for a living. I was amazed how much bracing, taping windows and lifting it onto skids for the move. We had a mine that was quite active for years which was closed about 80-100yrs after opening. There was a company owned pub, postoffice/general store with 2&3 bedroom houses surrounding the main entrance. They had to clear the area so they put the 3bd house for $10,000 & 2bd for $5,000! The catch was you had to remove it by a deadline if not fines were added until either it was resold bc you couldn't fulfill your agreement or a forest co came demolished & removed the debris. I watched it maneuvered out of the mountains,thru winding narrow roads & brought to an undeveloped piece of land & left on bc wood and blocks so that plumbing etc could be installed. Our family got a 3bd & was moved about 40miles or so from it's spot. It made it perfectly in great condition not a broken window or a crack anywhere. That was 40yrs ago and still going strong with all the modern updates & withstood little kids growing up!!!!!

My house will be 100 next year, last year I had to have one side of it raised 3.5 inches to level it out. I was amazed and how well it worked. I also learned building a house on post and beam is not such a good idea, probably why it is no longer an option.

I a shed that had a good foundation. We place the shed on concrete footer that sat in a box full of gravel. It had great drainage. This lasted for about ten years. Two years ago an irrigation pipe broke UNDER the shed. We never noticed until the grass started dying. They damage was already done because it cavietated the earth under the shed. Well I fixed the pope but want to level the shed now. This was a great video! Got some good ideas on how to get this job done on the cheap!

👍👍👍. If all works well moving this “historic” building to its new sight it may last for a hundred plus years or more. Only if you use wood like the wood that it’s built out of will it out live all newer construction and future builds. And where you finally place it where it has a chance away from flow of water. I see old houses more and more being saved as newer ones don’t stand up to the test of time. In one hundred years what will we have to share of what was built in recent years. It will all have crumbled away cuz it was hurriedly built and cheaply made all turned into another parking lot years later. But your shabby looking shed will still be standing if only you give it some TLC as it definitely deserves it. Even taking time and the skills the old house you’re restoring was once built with the mind of forever. That’s the gift you want to leave for generations to come and all the love you put into it to be noticed by them and all the pain to make it all part of your history. They may not remember you but they’ll know and honor your work as all you built and restored will still be standing 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍

I think that you can get those straps to brace the shed all the way around. The top middle and bottom line of the shed, that will help with stabilizing it so it does not come apart while moving it it.🤞🤞

Well this was amazing to see what one determined man can accomplish with simple set of tools. Those little jacks are for the flipping win. Wow. I was afk-ing a midieval skilling game in another window, and I told the other players what I was watching. One of them was a carpenter in real life and we all ended up having a big discussion about Art moving this 100 yo oak shed with skids and some jacks. The carpenter confirmed that oak gets stronger with age. Fun youtube/runescape moment.

Nice job. Next time you have hard driving tech screws wipe the threads on a bar of soap to lubricate them, they will go in like butter. On long ones you you may need to do it twice. When you get around to moving the shed, throw down some heavy cardboard, sheet metal, old pipe, 2-3" round logs or what ever you can find under the skids.

Just a thought: maybe put a couple of cross braces between those beams, one in the front, and one in the back. It will keep the braces from wanting to pull together to a “V” when you pull it. That’s a lot of weight.

Sorry it’s too late, but you could’ve started screwing the screws into the new beam (stopping just before the tip sticks out) before placing it under the shed, then the screw heads would only stick out a little bit, so you probably could’ve fitted the screwdriver under, without extra lifting (perhaps only needing to scrape away some loose dirt).

I'll stick with good clean tank water. I can see my roof, and I can see that it's clean to produce good clean cloud juice. Even if you get your spring water tested and it's good when you test it, you can't see what's going on, so you don't know what contaminants can sneak in after the test.
