Word! Even in slow motion Lewis’ reactions are impressive when Max dive bombs the apex of turn 1. I think the move was referred to as “pass or shunt”, but either way, Max got that centimetre perfect. F1 requires his aggressiveness to keep it interesting at present.

This is what people who bash Valtteri don't understand. He may not be in Hamilton's league, but he's quick enough to be relevant on *saturday* and *sunday.* Red Bull can't say that about their 2nd driver ever since Ricciardo left for Renault. It might only be proper fight until French GP, because Hamilton complained to FIA about Max's rear wing and they will not allow it starting from French GP anymore... In interviews Hamilton says that close title fight is what this sport needs, but clearly that's not what he really think's - he actually needs easy wins... he hates competition... last year Mercedes could have the steering wheel the whole season (despite other teams complaining that it makes Mercedes faster), but as soon as Mercedes complains about someone else (RB and Max in this case), FIA take their complaints seriously and disallow anything that makes the competition more exciting... I would kinda understand the complaints if Max would be unbeatable this season and would be the leader in the ranking, but at this point this complaint is just useless and proves Hamilton as a p**sy who is afraid of a little competition...

Why is everyone blaming Red Bull's strategy? There is nothing they could've done better this race. The Mercedes was simply too fast to keep it behind. In the first 4 races it became clear that Red Bull only has a chance when everything goes perfectly right for them and Mercedes has a bad day. That is also why this season won't be much more exiting than the last seven, even though RB is much closer now.

Not sure if its me or not, but I believe it was Hamilton and Mercedes intention to lose the position at the start. Hamilton did not even attempt to defend the position and the onboard camera shows he knew Max was there pulling in front of him. I think it sort of tied in with the 2- stop strategy and they knew they had the pace. No other reason mercedes would have saved that extra set of mediums unless they knew they would use them. also, I believe Hamilton purposely stayed behind Max to watch his wing flex so that post-race they could report their findings to the FIA (hence the new directive and testing methodology they introduced). This was basically 4d chess in my eyes.

I agree and I think he should be penalised for such moves (that he very often does). He is on the acceleration so he can control the line he' ll take, he has someone alongside him and should keep a more closed line to respect the opponent and have a fair combat. Instead, his usual tactic is to push the opponent off track. He is the most disrespectfull driver I have ever seen and he should be punished on such occasions. F1 is not a bumper car race to favour the "bravest" and the most reckless.
@Bozza36

You both have clearly never driven cars to their limits. Max was coming into a tight corner so fast that his tyres lost grip halfway through the corner. This results in the driver having to turn sharply in the opposite direction for a split second so they don't spin. It is very common when you ask too much out of the tyres. Max did nothing wrong, and both drivers dealt with the situation perfectly. You can't challenge one of the best drivers in the best car without being aggressive.

I would also like to see you comment on the instance tha Max is finally being overtaken by Lewis. Max has made his move, taken the inside, and then moves again towards Lewis just when Lewis is alongside him, as if to ram his car. His purpose is of course to make it hard for Lewis to make the turn and not let him choose the line he wants, although he is now the new leader (of course Lewis is experienced enough not bite on this). Clever and ineresting, but shouldn't this move also be illegal? I think it's obvious that one should stick to his line when being overtaken and not move. It's dangerous!

I think Mercedes made a mistake by bringing Bottas in when they did to try for the extra point as it allowed Max time to do the same later - they should have left him out longer so Max couldn't come in without ricking losing 2nd. Bottas in for 1 very fast lap in next to last lap would have been better
@schankam

I thought about the exact same thing. Since Max also had to defend twice against Lewis with these tyres, Valterri's tyres should have been in a better shape anyway. Maybe he could even have catch up Max on the last 2 laps. But maybe it was just Bottas who wished to pit and try to get that extra point, cause he's still fighting for the championship after all.

They clearly need to be prioritising employing some race strategists from Mercedes over engine specialists. There is plenty to cover here, much like when Russell and Bottas crashed at Imola there was areas that were too conveniently over looked for further analysis by many. Particularly how if, when onboard footage of Raikkonen following behind of the crash was viewed on a detailed or large screen its obvious that Bottas did move over a lot unnecessarily (Bottas was defending P9!) on Russell. If these things keep being missed for analysis I'm going to start my own channel! Does anyone think I should do it?
