All our company use is them mk logic range and we just love this . The golden rule is never ever fit a 25 mm box for a socket . Why you may ask ? If the client asks you for a flat plate socket to be fitted it will not fit in a 25mm box you will need a 35 mm box .. more room for the wiring too. Come on guys it takes 5 min more to cut a 35 mm box in ..

Takes no extra time to chase in when a tracking company are being paid to do it instead. 35mm for spurs, switches and sockets, 47mm for cooker and shower boxes

A welcome step forward. Now we just need them to take that terminal block and locate it in the back box, (with a suitable flexi fly led to the socket.) So at first fix we can complete and test the ring before the kitchen fitters come along and screw through our rings. And socket faces can be unscrewed for EICR's, with much less risk of causing a broken conductor as we push back the face plate.

Should really have 4 terminals for the earths. This would allow for the two (eugh!) ring legs, a spur and then also the obligatory flylead for the metal back box

4 terminals? like on a standard socket where you have 4 terminals also? think not. On many sockets you only have 1 terminal and stuffing 4 leads in it is extremely hard.

Aye. As its a screwless connector its one conductor per connection terminal. This is to ensure a good connection due to the way the connectors work. And 4 conductors is an issue - most outlets say max of 3 for 2.5mm cable, although the CPC is 1.5mm so a little more space available.

I think there should be one more lever position, specifically for the the CPC. This would allow for a conductor to connect to a metal box, even when you have both a ring and radial connecting in the same box, without the need for an additional connector for the CPCs.

Use a metal backbox with a solid lug, then an earth tail to the box is not needed. Why do something you do not need to do!

Well done MK. Finally a UK socket with Wago style connectors. A transparent connector similar to the Wago 221 connector would have been even better. I have used French sockets with screwdriverless connectors but they were only suitable for solid conductors and once connected the conductor was almost impossible to remove. From this presentation it appears that the MK connector can accept solid, stranded or fine stranded conductors and the conductor can be withdrawn by simply lifting the lever. I cannot wait to try them out.

Definitely the way forward. A slight improvement would be to provide 4 CPC connections, to allow connection of a spur and a back box fly lead too...

In Spain where I work, my preferred sockets and switches (Simon 27 Play) are all push fit. It's definitely the way to go.

Just what I needed, most modern outlets are difficult to use with 3 old stranded cables never mind mixing with solid . I had to extend a ring for socket on wall just behind existing single outlet. Old stranded including an existing spur. Fitted this double outlet in standard backbox. Broke in to ring with two 2 cables through wall. Fitted it all in including 3 Wagos. No lifting floor for a junction box!!

Great for a spur off a 4mm radial circuit which is quite hard to achieve with the traditional screw connector.

These look like a great idea to me. I'm not a professional electrician but I think for people doing bits themselves at home (where appropriate, I'm not a numpty!) this should be a lot safer as well since they remove the chance of making a bad termination that might come loose when the socket is fixed back. Price wise a single one of these is currently £6 on Screwfix and the standard one is £3.77 so they cost ~60% more which is a hefty increase though I think it's worth it for the convenience and safety factor.

@@barnabybot Considerably less than the minutes of labour doing good job with screw down sockets. Maybe not cheaper than sloppy use of screw down. As DiYer, I've had to reset all my screw down sockets as jobs done by several registered and recommended professionals came loose, earth sleeving had slipped into the screw down, or too tight so cable broke, etc.

In regards to screw terminals damaging the copper conductors, I don’t understand why premium electrical switches, sockets, etc don’t use rising clamp terminals. Lots of industrial equipment uses rising clamp terminals, as do some MCBs.

Been wanting something like this for so long, hopefully they extend it across more products such as FCUs and switches, although the design would probably need to be changed to make the terminals small enough to fit on a single gang product. If they're keeping the screwless terminals exclusively to the double sockets, it would at least be good to see more widespread adoption of cage clamps like on the Crabtree instinct range, at least then you don't have the issue with damaging conductors by overtightening. Makes for a tough decision when deciding on a range to go for - Logic Plus for screwless sockets but regular screws on everything else, or Crabtree Instinct for cage clamps on everything but no screwless option.

seen so many of 16 A and 32A sockets [trailing type] where the push in connections have got so hot and burned the insulation back.....wait a few years and the fires will start on fully loaded 32A radial circuits with plastic fast fix boxes.

@@sparkey1958 I've seen far more issues with screwed terminals tbh. Whatever the terminal type of a trailing lead they should always be regularly inspected due to the nature of its use. That and bad practice I believe is the main reason for most issues. I personally like the idea of the lever connections, they don't damage the conductors like screw terminals.

I think price is a big factor with these. Clients generally won't care what's behind a socket and will only see the socket front on the wall as such, so £6.50odd a socket could on say a rewire send the price upwards. However it is the future, and when more brands do the same across the range of accessories I think it'll become more affordable. Just need to get Wago Consumer Units now!

Angle of entry is good rather than going directly into the back that lower entry point allows it to fit comfartbaly in a 25 mm backbox

I’m surprised that so many responders think they need a 4th terminal for a back box ‘fly lead’. With these sockets the faceplate fixing screws give a perfectly adequate earth connection to the back box.

There's generally adequate, then there's guaranteed; and they're mutually exclusive. With the 4th terminal for CPC, the box remains earthed even if something happens to the screws, or when the cover is removed for testing.

Yes Bruce. No need for an earth fly lead if at least one lug is solid. Also the adjustable lug also gives an earth. Pretty well guaranteed to earth the socket to the metal box behind.

I’m really impressed with them, quick question for you guys though. On stranded cable how do the terminals hold up with a feral in the terminals? I’m guessing they should be fine and and there is probably no need to feral them in these types types of connectors

Stripping length is 10mm, normally get 10mm on a bootlace ferrule, so in reality it should marry up to the shoulder of the ferrule. Gonna have to try this myself…

This has be the way forward, putting 2 sometimes 3 (for a fused spur) conductors into a single screw fixed connector has always been a flaw of the ring main method because of not nowing if both conductors are evenly secured.

I'd used these - well worth the minutes saved when crawling around you my old knees, fitting dozens. Not sure I'd want to switch to all accessories from MK Logic - may have wait for Scolmore to catch up! As an aside - old MK socket "Made in UK", new MK socket "Made in Malaysia" - shame we don't make anything anymore!

You can't believe anything these days with Made in Britain. I use to work for a company that made GAS smart meters that said made in England. All we did was upload the software to the meter but all the build was made in Greece.

All we need now is a better fixing arrangement to the back box, locating lugs and better screw guidance would be a great thing. Crosspoint not flat and with the plain end bit should be standard. Just removed loads to decorate a whole house then replaced them - a pain of a job.

We have insulation displacement sockets. You can put up to 4mm2 conductors - strip the middle piece of TPS, lay cable in, tighten one screw - no stripping of the primary insulation.

@@efixx ah didn't know that. I guess the only downside is the cable's overall thickness would be slightly thicker. Also the price would be a bit higher but I'm sure most sparks would gladly pay a small premium to not have to use earth sleeving at every single termination.

So if you want to earth the back box with a wire and you have a spur on a ring, you'll have to put one of the cpc's in the back box terminal

You’d put the cpc into the back box first then onto the socket. No need for four earth terminals at the socket.

Can you fit 2 cables into one lever if you have 3 cables and back box flying lead? Do the screw housings connect back to the earth circuit in the socket?

I have the same problem, i tend to over tighten the screw terminals, screw less is the new normal. Perhaps at some point we will get to see a 100% screw less distribution board.

Has anyone asked, what do you do with a spur and a cpc fly lead to the back box. I assume there's a metal face version. Maybe that's double insulated? You'd need four cpc terminals or do you squeeze a wago in the back or can you put two conductors in one lever?

Sorry Gaz, I'm not overly convinced by your trial where the cables came up into the back box. Looking closely, whilst in contact with the 'plasteboard' at the top, the socket appeared to stand-off a little at the bottom when tight. I can't help thinking that the double thickness of conductor was being trapped between the levers and the box. Please can you take a closer look? Specifically, how does the minimum gap from levers to back box compared with 2x, or 3x diameter of, say 4.0mm^2 conductors over the insulation?

@@adrianking6309 : Watching from Denmark where everything is Torx10, seeing the oldfashioned fixing screws really gave me a nostalgic feeling. We changed to pz in 1985 away from the flat blade. And actually at that time we also went away from screws on terminals of wall sockets.

I love this idea and I've been wondering for a few years when we might see them in the UK. My only problem is that I still can't see them: my favourite wholesaler can't even tell me a price and they've never actually seen one. I have half a dozen holes in a kitchen wall just begging to be filled by these but I guess I'll have to use the plain vanilla screwed terminal type sitting in my toolcase if I want the job finished by Christmas. Or maybe MK can tell me where to look . . .

They have been doing this on the continent for well over a decade. Spring lever terminals do not suffer from mechanical creep and do not need to be re tightened like terminal screws do. It's about time the UK catches up with the Europe. All we need to do now is to get rid of the slotted box screws that mount the socket. The schuko sockets have a very good, easy ,secure and fast mounting system. Not nearly as fiddly as the UK sockets😜

Hopefully the silly ring circuit will be a a thing of the past to ( and all the annoying tests that go with the pointless ring circuit). The ring circuit is reason we have fused plugs in the UK. Why do you need a 32a circuit for socket outlets these days anyway?

@@MyProjectBoxChannel Final Ring Circuits have their advantages for sure. I am a fan in general. Final Rings means a house electrical system can be fitted as a rule-of-thumb. Use DP RCBOs all around and easier still and much safer. Fused plugs make UK system safer than others.

I saw this pop up on IG a few months ago, wondered when it would be released. The best thing about this is it's a game changer when you have no choice but to work live, nursing/care homes and hospital environments where people can't be turned off without risks to their lives. I wonder if it'll have the same anti-bac properties their current basic range has that we were asked to fit as standard for care/nursing homes. Time to get some literature on them I think.

Its the same type of plastic Urea - so antibac properties are the same.

@@efixx Ended up fitting some not 2 hours after posting. Brilliant kit, had a nursing home call come in, bed ridden resident on oxygen. What would take a team of nurses to move them so we could isolate power and replace a busted socket (basically a minimum of 2 hour prep) took less than 5 minutes with no need to turn the power off and being lever connectors with triple inlets far safer than holding cables in to screw. I thought their new basic antibac would be our go to range but this is now the go to socket for all call outs.

Efixx please more actual engineering information and I have said this before can you get MK to release a technical sheet proving that torquing (not torque but actually pull force using a calibrated force gauge instrument) has been tested not just a tug test , that connections are just as robust or better than screw connections more resistant to arcing, temperature increase and thermal damage. I am all for new products but engineering quality and testing matters and efixx should be calling this out more otherwise manufacturers will feel they don’t have to be transparent about the quality of their products and testing methods and we then get a race to the bottom which none of us want. I hear they use Wago connector springs which have been proven but it’s high time for manufacturers to release more comprehensive testing and technical information about their products.

Maybe you should become a producer for the efixx channel. I'm sure they would like to give you money for the privilege of you telling them how to run their channel ;) I jest of course... I too would like to see more technical information, but I think your expectations are wildly out. Asking efixx to simply "get MK to do xyz" is a bit much.

@@MatSmithLondon gentle nudging - it makes business sense to build brand commitment around quality and it helps installers to decide on good products. Efixx are doing a good job but the industry can feedback improvements and I hope they would welcome it.

@@mathman0101 This works great for small or emerging business, but when your reputation is built on pretty much designing the UK mains socket (as MK did in the 1920s) I suspect the idea of protecting the brand - i.e. not releasing information unless required to do so by law - features higher on the priority list than reaching out to consumers through youtube channels, no?

@@MatSmithLondon I believe they are now owned by Honeywell and for a time say last 10 years some installers stopped using MK products for a perceived view they were not as robust as in the past. Maybe this product is a beginning to reclaim that quality reputation. Every company has to make their own calls but technical information is valuable as part of the correct and safe installation process where standards may only go so far. Intellectual property concerns around the actual manufacturing process is a different thing and they are right to protect that. Take Wago for example i do like what they provide on technical information around their products and they are doing it in a world where many are copying them. However their rigorous testing and transparency around what they produce make clear in what ways their product is superior to competitors and they have build brand loyalty and importantly trust around their products. We should be highlighting good examples and products which efixx do in an informative and entertaining way but that does not stop us suggesting improvements which manufacturers can take on board. It’s the companies that stop innovating and stop the R&D that inevitably show longer term decline.

@@mathman0101 Completely agree with this. Having bought a bucketload of Wago DIN rail stuff recently I agree their technical documentation is good (although a complete nightmare to navigate their product numbers, but that's a different matter...)

Can you wire the CPC via the terminal in the backbox (ie two ends in that terminal) ?

I like the fitting but having trouble getting wires in with my installation probably have to strip cable back as supply a little too aggressive but prefer to screw ones as those just kept blowing up in my face

My experience too. With 4mm^2 twin+earth I twice had the live pop out of one of the brown terminals and arc over to a (sheathed) CPC on account of the difficulty of these connectors accepting the bend radius needed even in a 35mm back box. Have gone back to screws ... Maybe it would be fine with 2.4mm^2 twin+earth. But I don't trust these with 4.

If spurring off these sockets you’d have to terminate the earth to the metal box as it only has 3 connections. I think it would be ideal having 4 earth connections on the socket

Not used mk for a long time, didn't know you couldn't get the pin covers down using the earth. That would be really annoying when trying to stick my probe tester in. Yes there are times when I just want to stick a probe tester in rather than getting out a big tester and leads.

I would recommend four wago terminals for the cpc's should you require to spur off.

Not an electrician here, so sorry if this is a dumb question. What do you do if you with CPCs if you want to use this as the start of a radial spur but you also need a fly-lead because you've got a metal backbox? I imagine it's a bit of a squeeze even with traditional screw terminals. How does it work with maintenance-free connectors with only three holes?

Loop one of the Cpcs via the terminal in the back box.

All we need now is light switches having _round_ boxes behind. The vast majority of light switches can use a round backbox. Then use a drill to make the hole, instead of knocking out square holes.

Why is it some mk equipment is UK made and others are not.(Malaysia I think). Is there a way to tell what you're getting. Because I've seen the same components such as metal clad module frames both UK and Chinese made arrive in the same order.

They could use the push-in mechanism that's usually used by German sockets. Those take 2 wires and are smaller than a screw connector. (They are also annoying to use, as you have to push and hold down a plate with quite some force to open them. On the other hand, there's no lever that could snag open.)
