Take your Wago 221 and 2773 connectors to another level with the IPX8 Gelbox - An fast way to create totally waterproof connections.
2773 is the updated version of the Wago 773 series connectors - with a common 32A current rating and 4mm sq conductor sizing across the connector range of 2,3,4,5,6 and 8 wire ports.
This Wago Review explores how and where to use the Gelbox. Along the way, we show a useful hack when needing to insert a stranded conductor into aWago 2773 series connector

Love the 2773 connectors. You can pretty much get connections onto any lights no matter how little space you have, Chandeliers, back box neutrals. The other day it was fumagalli wall lights, Great light but damn all space to play with when fitting them, was using heat shrink on them before but now I could try these gel boxes

I find the 2273 series are great for joining neutrals and CPCs behind switches (where the lighting circuit is fed to switch rather than using a drop cable) - they're so much smaller than anything else, and the ability to have four conductors connected in a flat connector (as opposed to the 2x2 grid of a 773 series) is great if space is tight

Nice to see a chart of the wagos and an explanation of the sizes for conductors, i wasn't aware of the sizing having only used a small selection. I have found when doing electrical testing after fitting the 221 lever connections if you have a connector with a spare terminal the mft tester probes go in nicely and the lever locks it in place to stop the test lead dropping out making it easier whilst testing.

The 221 connectors have 2 test probe sockets built in , to the front and back of the lever with text on, though it does require a fine probe. If there is a spare way certainly easier to use that.

10:25 except for all the water going down the earth sleeving. I know its not a huge issue there, but using the sleeving seems to hurt in this application. I wonder if it would be better to cut the sleeving short to reaming outside the gel area. That would help prevent corrosion on the copper wire. Otherwise great video. I sure would love to find one of the giant 221 demonstration connectors.

You do not want moisture getting between the conductors and outer insulation sheath. I assume the outer sheath insulation should be right up to the waterproof connector. It looks like the gel would seal the end of the outer sheath.

Really frustrating that the gel boxes aren’t available in the USA. Wago USA advised me Underwriters Laboratories (UL) haven’t approved the gel boxes. Needless to say I discovered this after using six 221’s inside a plastic box inside my septic tank which is a very damp location. I may have to go back to blue wire nuts if I can’t figure out a way of keeping the 221’s dry :(

I had considered the ferrule trick previously, though as the ferrule material is harder than copper I was concerned the Wago might not bite hard enough to make a good connection. Have Wago given their blessing to this, and is it limited to any manufacturer of ferrule?
@efixx
@efixx 3 роки тому
We did consult Wago before launching this hack. You are limited on conductor sizes at top and bottom end of size ranges. Too big plastic on ferrule doesn’t fit. Too small can’t get enough insertion force.

@@darylsavage119 Oh yes, For when the cooker is moving from here to there and the kitchen fitter wants to fit a backsplash over the existing box. Need a MF connector there! Depends on where you are in the world as we only offer one type per country. 2273=2.5mm max 24A, 2773 =4.0mm 32A.

American here, so please forgive my ignorance. That MASSIVE WAGO 221 on the table is a bit confusing. With the size of conductor it would take, how is it only rated for 20A??? That seems a bit flimsy.
@efixx
@efixx 3 роки тому
20A is the rating for Japan (PSE) - rest of the world should be 32A ( UL & ENEC) - the massive one is a rare treat!

Catch up with what? We had eight of those stupid wago splices melt at a 1200 room hotel. Remember we have double the current at 120v. They may be ok for end of line lighting with a .05 amp load but not a air or reefer circuit.

Graham, please play your vid back and then check the regs, a couple of comments that may mislead the sheep of the electrical world. First selv is not safety low voltage, and you stated first after terminating into the gel pack that's all you need to do, you just introduced a code 2 fault in your termination, it cannot be left like that. For anyone who disagrees please read the regs and guidence notes on how to do it. Don't be a sheep. Graham you did correct yourself after placing wago into the bucket, but people respond more by visual than vocal direction.
@efixx
@efixx 3 роки тому
You’ll have to explain further so I get the gist - we gave two examples a SELV system supplying 24VDC LED tape and a mains voltage system LV supplying something like a bollard. The second would have to be inside a suitable enclosure.
