The show its just a resume of the original series, the only difference its that we will see things that in the show was offscreen, like the air temple battle

only screentime their getting is the story of zuko getting burned 😭

i want them to have more screentime, so that when they betray Zuko and join Zhao's crew in a The Waterbending Master adjacent episode it hits even harder that even the people who've spent three years with Zuko don't respect him to a certain degree.

Unfortunately them removing Sokka's sexism leads me to believe that will be the case. Shows nowadays seem incapable of grasping that character growth necessitates flaws, sometimes really big ones.

We definitely need to see Zuko commit some act of villainy _other_ than trying to capture Aang at the South Pole. I don't necessarily think it has to be the Kyoshi Island fight, but he has to do something evil at some point in the season other than the first episode. Ideas: * Recycle some portion of The Waterbending Scroll, so that Zuko gets to share the antagonist role with the pirates. Maybe throw in the "your own ship has set sail" joke, so it's seen as more comedic and the higher-ups are more willing to let Zuko be a bad guy. * Borrow some ideas from the final few scenes of The Chase, so that we get Zuko vs. Aang vs. Azula. Recontextualize Azula's attack on Iroh as happening halfway through the fight, so that Zuko has to choose between tending to Iroh and continuing to go after Aang. He can choose Iroh without totally undermining his character, especially if we get some angst about it later on in the season. * How about a really crazy idea: Zuko is temporarily reconciled with the Fire Nation for the duration of The Siege of the North, only for Azula to try and capture or kill him after the invasion goes poorly. Maybe he gets blamed for not "warning" them that Aang is crazy powerful. Anyway, this would be a neat trick to let Zuko take on the role of a villain, without needing to get his hands dirty per se. It also removes some complexity from the early portions of the episode, since we don't need Zuko's ship getting blown up, him sneaking around in disguise, etc. The other question I have about Zuko: What are they going to do with the Blue Spirit? Do we have confirmation that any of that stuff happens?

Yeah Zuko is supposed to represent the majority of the Fire Nation: they're not bad people, they just do bad things because they've been brought up to think that it's the right thing.

honestly I'd consider that a side grade. As in a cool idea that isn't better or worse than what we got in the show. Just different, which is what we'd want on some level (that being changes that range from good to unremarkable)

I like that more since the avatar state doesn’t seem to have the wrath of 162 master elemental benders, maybe the avatar state only allows you to connect to the past 2 or 3 cycles

And then in finale, Aang finally enters the Avatar state as himself, demonstrating that he has finally achieved mastery over all the elements! Cool theory.

And that would defeat the whole purpose of Zuko being there and saving the crew member himself. We would be going from _showing_ to _telling._ And this is why changes shouldn't be made: because someone is going to think "it would be cool if we did this" and they will inevitably fuck something up because they didn't realize the consequences. This whole channel is dedicated to analyzing every little detail that went into this show. Very little was done by accident, and almost every scene has an important purpose. Even being willing to make changes is inherently disregarding the care that was put into it to begin with. It's like that lady who thought she could restore the painting of Jesus and just made it look like a child's drawing instead.

I'm sorry, was there a different live-action Netflix adaptation of ATLA that also dropped a month ago? I don't think we watched the same show. The show I watched would have been better if more of these predictions were correct, but they weren't. The show dropped nearly every possible ball.

I feel exactly the same. I hate the way Netflix does things. I want each episode to have room to breathe, and be appreciated for what it is. I want to see theories and discussions BETWEEN each episode, as we all talk about what just happened, and speculate/anticipate what happens next. I don't want it to be a rush for everyone to get to the finale so we don't get spoiled by UKposts thumbnails. I don't want the show to be over in a couple of days after waiting years (after all that hype, it should at least last a few weeks). And I don't want all of the online discussion and videos, and reviews, to pretty much focus on how the show ended, without paying as much attention to the earlier episodes.

Punished Momo is debatable, but I would also argue that Zhao wasn't quite merked as OA described. Given the tone of the Live Action, he's almost certainly dead. But he just sort of fell into the water, which is even less conclusive than being grabbed by the spirit and dragged away
