ENERGY - If you can measure it, you can manage it.
It's even better if the kit to measure energy is easy to install. We've got our hands on these clever energy meters from Wago.
This gave us a great opportunity to try out a new ferrule crimping tool from Wiha
Now installed within our demo bench test board, watch out for a full review coming soon.

If WAGO made an 8-10 way spring-lever RCBO consumer unit for ~£200, they’d take significant UK market share. Greater speed of repeat (dis)connections for testing or circuit changes, less damage to conductors even if ferrules aren’t used. No torque driver or wiggle and re-tighten necessary.
@jimbob1ist
@jimbob1ist 2 роки тому
DIY Dave would still try and ram as many cables as they want in the breakers. The good thing about the cage style in use at the moment is they grip what ever size and however many cores. But, a WAGO RCBO CU would be nice.

Slowly but surely screwed terminals are becoming a thing of the past in favour of these lever types. A full CU would be a sight to behold.

Never will replace screw terminals imo these lever type are good but in real practice they can create all sorts of issues false contacts after 3 years of service in machine the vibrate. And screw terminals on my pm list one of my jobs is to re torque them all to spec every 6 months. We also have had these terminals melt due to false contacts before om 3 phase motors

@AngeEinstein Screw terminals don't just randomly get loose over time (unless its a poor installation and the wires are heating in which case wagos are just as bad...), I am pulling apart 70 year old fuse boxes where they are as tight as the day they were installed. As far as vibrations go, maybe, but the average installation in a home or light commercial? What is vibrating?....
@TheAviation101
@TheAviation101 5 місяців тому
@@Shrouded_reaperthis answer here is why sparks are not engineers CU would likely have been retightened during maintenance Everything vibrates. Thermal cycling is a type of vibration. Just the magnitude and frequency of it differs.
@Shrouded_reaper
@Shrouded_reaper 5 місяців тому
@TheAviation101 We have plenty of half century old or even older installs here in NZ and AUS that are just fine, even on high load circuits. In fact out of all the old breaker boxes I have ripped out for renovations, I cannot recall a single loose connection unless it was due to a really shoddy install. Engineers spend too much time fiddling around on computers and have never done real world work. I agree that there are superior terminal methods but there really isn't anything wrong with screw terminals for domestic and light commercial.
@Sawyer_202
@Sawyer_202 2 роки тому
I don’t like putting ferrules on clamp terminals, wire has better contact without and it’s faster but it’s not like it matters.

Who else's smart meter display is chucked in a box / the back of a drawer?
@CoolSteve08
@CoolSteve08 2 роки тому
@@efixx my Father's issue with "Smart Meters" is that they're not "smart". You can't see your current usage while away on holiday, for example to see if an outdoor light has got stuck on. Plus they don't actually save you money anyway, as they still rely on you manually reading a display and thinking "where is that power going?" so you go round turning things off. And let's be honest, there have been products on the market that show you your energy usage for many years even long before "smart meters" were a thing. There is no significant benefit for most consumers in a smart meter, and the only benefit for consumers is that for most installations of them they can be read remotely by the supplier, yet in areas where the meter is in the middle of a solid brick house or a rural area, where there is poor or no phone signal, a manual reading still has to be done thus making it a "dumb" meter.
