Nvidia’s Terrified - AMD RDNA 5 Specs & Release Date
Recently there’s been some talk about RDNA 4 and RTX 50 as AGF mentioned RTX 50 would battle both RDNA 4 & RDNA 5 in its life span. If true than RDNA 5 may be launching sooner than we expected leading to an opportunity for AMD to take the performance crown with their RDNA 5 based RX 9000 series GPUs. The RX 9900 XTX especially seems like an incredibly powerful GPU.

?? A like how this somehow becomes "true" becaue their AI business is taking off. Everybody repeating this. And yet, my RTX4070 runs great and NVidia has a bunch of great software features coming. What some people fail to understand is that the GAMING side of things doesn't need to disappear simply because it's less profitable. NVidia gets a lot of name recognition out of this, and there are Workstation GPU's as well. NVidia still has plenty of incentive to dominate the gaming/prosumer PC space.

@@photonboy999because designing a shit ton of SKUs costs money, and cannibalizes your own products and confuses consumers. They will sell the cards to whoever wants it but I doubt they will be optimized for gaming as much. It's been like that for several generations now I remember Pascal Titan was for deep learning. Also, ai IS prosumer. Do you think prosumers are prioritizing gaming? What do you think a prosumer is? No, twitch streamers don't count. A prosumer would be like a small mom and pop store that wants to run their own in house AI solutions without spending enterprise money

Yeah, RDNA 4 (aka RDNA 3+)I think is a mid to upper (not top) end GPU's on monolith design. So, not sure on RDNA 5.

@@JustPsychoo69 Yeah, they made the decision to go entry and mid range on RDNA 4 pretty early on, so they were likely able to shift quite a few resources to RDNA 5 sooner than usual. So, to me, it's not all that surprising if it does come out even as early as summer 2025, though, I'd say more likely in the fall.

@@mr.guillotine3766nah at best RDNA5 will only come out at the same time as nvidia 60 series. Remember AMD have the tendency to prolong the life cycle of their product. People thought that RDNA 2 will coming out early as well. And they assume when it did AMD will be uncontested for a while until Nvidia release their 30 series. The rest is history.

Yeah Nvidia is going to keep the lead but AMD should become the dominant GPU seller. Nvidia has been shifting over the last 10 years towards server solutions, more than gaming solutions. That's part of the reason some of their launches have been a little tone deaf. In terms of pricing over the last 3-4 years. They're moving almost entirely over to designing neural structures for AI big server solutions and that's where the real money is

HD3870, HD5870, GTX680, GTX1080.... RTX4070 What do the first four cards have in common? ANSWER: they were all top-end cards when I bought them, EXCEPT the RTX4070. A few months ago I bought an RTX4070 which isn't a top-end card. Why? In part because it gets me ALL or MOST of what I need out of the games I play. Horizon Forbidden West? Pretty much a solid 60FPS at Max settings (1440p/DLSS/Quality)... a modern problem for GPU manufacturers will be DIMINISHING visual returns. You can get around this by adding RAY TRACING. But they still need to support pure RASTER so a lot of people won't use RT... and what happens when an RTX7080 runs games with FULL ray tracing that are photo-realistic? Where's the upgrade both to sell you on then? What demanding things do you add to games to convince people they need a new gaming PC? (PS5/XBSX have maybe one generation left too... games can look and run MUCH BETTER on EXISTING consoles once the software is improved on. Which is why Microsoft is trying to plan around this. We're going to get a PS5 game that is close to photo-realistic AND runs at a true 60FPS... go look at an OLDER game, Detroit Become Human. It looked amazing on my poor GTX1080. It's not hard to imagine games that look way better. What's left to do? Better fluid simulation? Better collision detection? Audio ray tracing? Will enemy AI actually be demanding?)

@@Barb4sale That´s not a reaction to what he says. Still say, when they were first, you were in a coma or something? Nvidia will stay at the top, and AMD is not going anywhere either. As far as the CEOs, market stability is their goal. R&D spending didn´t help Intel much with CPU or GPU, as without the right people, it still falls apart, 5080 vs AMD-like can happen, if not 5090 vs AMD-like. It depends on actual performance metrics in all aspects. DUH P.S. The older series 79XX GPUs were monster, and the 7970 was usually about on par, or even noticeably better at FHD, than the 680. 20 yrs, you say..

Realistically, all I want for christmas from AMD is some rdna4 cards that compete with 4080/4090 in raytracing, for ~500, because they already scratching these in pure raster and I guess this is also what nvidia is most scared of....Rdna 5,..we'll see.

For a very long time I am a Radeon user because here in my country AMD is way cheaper than NVidias cards, but the sadly reality is... If you only game go for it, but if you a professional mostly of all application on the world are starving for CUDA Cores and AMD doesn`t have it, and the ecosystem and features on NVidias side is way to mature and has a lot of features, to sumarize since 6000 series and 7000 series AMD Radeons cards are strong on rasterization, but stops there, for game is enough for professional use you will be losing so much if you are a Radeon user that I cannot phantom try to explain.

They skipped the high end with the 5700XT being top in that series, and then they actually beat nvidia 3090 and even equal that 3090Ti with the 6900/6950XT (in raster). They are doing it again with the 8000 and 9000 series and if they can close that ray tracing gap it s going to be a much need shake up in the landscape. I am rooting for AMD !

Honestly even if rdna 5's flagship "only" matched 4090 performance, but did at a much cheaper price, that'd be a lot more interesting to most consumers. I could definitely see though, that if they got their shit together for a chiplet gpu, it could outperform a monolithic, but I would bet money Nvidia will come out swinging with their own chiplet stuff immediately after.

If I had to guess, I would anticipate that the 8K High-End/9K Series from AMD (I do assume they will call it the 9K series though I would not be surprised if the 8K $299-$499.99 Cards stay as the low end with a price cut) will launch 9-12 months after the 8000 cards hit the market in or around November. Just a hunch, and I'm wrong a lot, but if I had to bet a date with a hot 23-year-old...not that I talk to any hot 23-year-olds...or know any...but I've heard it's nice...

I think top end RDNA3 multi chip hit issues with timings lantance in communication between bits that held back performance & Top end RDNA4 introduced a bigger issue with this but a breakthrough on interconnects & a redesign may have fixed this for RDNA5. Potentially by breaking up gpu into sections you can speed up development & fill more market segments as more felexable in what & when you release something. Plus security is improved leek wise as fewer people see full picture of what they are doing. It also helps when pitching hardware to console & Hardware vendors like Sony MS Steam etc ie tell us power and price we will show you something to meet that. I would have 2 teams on general gpu rasterisation, raytracing etc (like zen) a i/o, interconnect team(possibly throw in AI with potential to form seperate dedicated AI team) with software team or two for drivers and other stuff like FSR(airbus had 3 teams different countrys as they felt less likely to get same bug in a program that could crash a plane.)

RDNA 4 is not a refresh. An RDNA 3 refresh would be a 7950 XTX and 7950 XT which are not gonna exist.

its not a refresh but they're targeting mid range on purpose because they know they have no chance in the high end, so they can focus on RNDA 5 high end, and maybe come up with something more relevant, which is smart actually, I hope it will be better than the XT overall, with 20gb of vram aswell, than might be interesting at 500, it's supposed to catch up a bit in the raytracing performance which is they biggest drawback, especially for certain games like cyberpunk if you look at the benchmarks

@@laszlozsurka8991 but if it doesn't have 20 it will be weirdly positioned compared to the XT then, cause people will have to choose between 20gb vram or higher RTX performance, I think they rather have 20gb to be honest, it will make it more future proof too. Guess it may just have 16 and the XTs will probably still sell for more than the asking price of the 8800xt.. which is a bit sad I feel.

@@strongforce8466 4070 Ti performs the same as a 3090 Ti yet it doesn't have 24 GB. 8800 XT is gonna bring the 7900 XT performance to a midrange class. Plus the 8800 XT performing the same as the 7900 XT while having the same amount of VRAM would kill the 7900 XT sales.

You cant glue multiple cpu together like you say for gaming. Internal latency will make sure you get so high latency that you cant have 500fps in 1080p, but you might get like 200fps at 4k if thats what ur after. We also know that most of the heat comes from the internal wires themselves not the transistors. So glueing multiple parts together will 2x+ increase the wattage. Gluing stuff together is really a bad idea on all accounts except for the cost savings. I would instead pay more for a single die.

I will be fine with RDNA 4 (N44) if it has 16gb ram. I only have a 12400f CPU so it should fit well with an enhanced 7600xt which is what I am hoping for..

With how power efficient the laptop GPU's are. If they could get 4 of those onto a single graphics card, that would be very high performance without being too power hungry. Not all laptop GPU's perform the same due to design and form factor limitations. But there are a few laptops with an RTX 4090(mobile). That's actually close to a desktop RTX 4080's performance, but the power consumption is waaaay lower. If AMD could do something comparable to that, but with 4 GPU's on 1 card. That would be actually have a chance to beat anything Nvidia releases....... But with AMD's track record, for that many things to go smoothly and according to plan. Very rarely happens. But I'm hoping this is one of the few times it actually does happen.

It would be nice ..they should focus on a top end GPU that places 2nd and is affordable ..but lets be honest both companys will push their frame numbers with FSR and /or DLSS Fake frames and the real performance will be much lower to keep the production costs low. Dont buy anything until it is tested!

Well with games like dragons dogma 2, starfield, Harry Potter I think we need much better CPU’s rather gpu upgrades. As I see 7800x3d struggle in city areas. My 5800x3d is fine till I go to cities of these games

Those games are not well optimized , it isn't the issue with the cpus themselves , it an issue with the games . Thy prioritize consoles over pcs and then surprise surprise it has issues on pc as well . There is no way that those cpus should have any issues with cities in those games , Dragon's Dogma 2 is the worst offender , god what a terrible release on the pc that even Capcom had to apologize for it , like that makes it better lol . I remember when Jedi Survivor launched people with 4090s couldn't get past 40 fps on ultra in 4k with ray tracing , that was not because of the gpu but because again the pc port was trash . We don't need better hardware nearly as much as we need better pc ports of games and not suboptimized garbage .

That's for RDNA4 RDNA 5 is still chiplet The reason is bc RDNA 3 has crazy potential to run well past 3 GHz but they didn't have time to perfect it. So they're coming with a single chip for RDNA 4 while the R&D team get the chiplet tech dialed in

Same thing gets said every generation. Cards will be more power hungry and not much else, unless you want to spend 2K. Remember when AMD said the same a long time ago and Nvidia responded with the 1080ti? I'm so sick of this. Prices go up faster than performance in the real world.

Nvidia is making most of their profit from their data centre segment, but that doesn't mean they aren't going to abandon the gaming segment. Gaming is their second largest business and still earns them billions, and it's the biggest form of entertainment by far, so there is a lot of profit to be made in it. Nvidia ditching a market with such high revenue would make zero sense. I am mentioning this because lots of people are saying Nvidia will be ditching gaming for AI, and that is unlikely to happen. The only difference is that AI is their top priority now, but they should still give gaming priority as well. Especially with Battlemage and RDNA 4 on the horizon, which are expected to be super competitive in the midrange segment. Celestial and RDNA 5 should arrive after that, and they are said to bring the heat to Nvidia in the high end and enthusiast class segments. Hopefully, there will be strong competition within the gaming market within a few years. Currently, it's not looking great. If anything, it would make the most sense if they indicated strategic aim to strengthen its market across its data centre and gaming segments

I don't see the point any longer. Developers don't optimize their games anymore, drivers are more miss than hit, even for Nvidia, you'll need your personal power plant in the backyard if you want to power those future cards. I bought a 7800 XT last year and while the card is strong, there are so many problems. Constant crashes in recent games (hello Helldivers 2). I'd rather have them concentrating on optimizing what is already there.

I doubt multichip GPUs will ever be fast at low resolutions due to increased latencies, but since high resolutions lower FPS so much anyway, multichip GPUs might be ok at 4K, ultrawides and in multimonitor setups. Basically multichip GPUs are a bit like CPUs with high core counts. While they have number crunching power, they are more like eighteen wheelers than sports cars. Because multichip GPU's will likely remain slower at low resolutions, AMD might have to keep having two GPU architectures. One for single chip GPU's and another for multichip GPU's.

Yea yea every time i here that shitty "next or next next generation of amd would be awesome" and it's never happened. I believe nvidia investing much more money to their gpu's (including software) than amd does. That's why amd will never be able to rich their level. What they need to do in my opinion is to focus on value for money and raise the budget of thier gpu development (and software). But it's seems they don't really want to compete so i don't think it will never happen.

@@garyhall3919 Let's not kid ourselves. AMD has lacked in their software package for a long time. FSR 3.1 is what should have launched with the 7000 series day one. They've been absent in other implementations such as AI hdr and streaming up scaling. If they want to be successful and pry people from Nvidia they need to be firing on all cylinders at launch and not wait 3 years as their product is exiting its sales life cycle.

They beat Intel because Intel got lazy and was unlucky. AMD money maker is their CPUs and their console APU package. They make some money on sever GPU when a company lose their bid with NVIDIA but they're never first choice. What AMD needs is eat their margin in the consumer GPU and aggressively price their card for the middle market but that's not their current business model.

I feel like a lot of people just watch Nvidia news and propaganda. There is literally no problem with the 7900 XT when it comes to Ray tracing or anything like that. FSR 3.1 is amazing. I have the card and I also have an RX 6800 and I run Ray tracing on it se fictitious problems that they're supposed to have. I have never experienced. The only problem I had is a driver issue with helldavers 2 because it was a brand new game

I don't know if people have short memory now or what but I've heard about amd beating nvidia with rx6000 vs rtx3000 series same with rx7000 vs rtx4000 and you're all one youtube search away from finding out that didn't happen. Amd needs to focus on productivity enhancements for it to matter for most people who not only game on pcs, or be cheaper and better at midrange for gaming. Also who the f*ck cares about raytracing really ? They've been pushing it for 3 generations now and I've yet to hear a person say "nah bruv, my gpu is good enough with fps I'm getting. I just want a better raytracing". It's nice if it's there and we don't have to sacrifice fps to get it but we're not gonna notice if it's not there.
