As far as the "you thought you're dad's vision was bad, yet you did it anyways" point, I think that's very believable. I think once you get to a certain age you can defiantly look back on your actions and recognize some of your parents flaws in things you've done and now regret. Especially if they're flaws that you yourself recognized in them and hated. How many abuse victims have grown up to both hate their abusers and yet be exactly the same? It's sad, but also unusually human for this show to examine that.

Who else things that Tarlok would’ve been a lot more interesting if he’d known or suspected that Amon was his brother the entire time. That way, instead of just being a power hungry politician looking to control the city, he was instead someone trying to stop Amon by any means necessary because he knew how dangerous he was. Only for him to realize too late how his actions had been causing non-benders to fear and hate him the way he feared and hated his father, turning him into the same monster he swore he’d never be. It would make Korra comparing Tarlok to Amon back in episode 8 a lot more powerful, since he would naturally be furious at the accusation only for him to realize that he was right. He also arrogantly thought he alone could be the city’s “saviour” and didn’t care who he hurt along the way.

I wouldn't knock the show for having Amon's dad claim bloodbending is the most feared & powerful type of bending in the world - it makes sense for this guy to make that claim.
@DarkDyllon
@DarkDyllon 4 місяці тому
i mean, it's the only bending to get outright banned, hell, Aang was powerless against it till he activated the Avatar state, if it never was re-unlocked by Ozai, Aang would've died right then and there, with Yakone basically easily ruling over republic city. since he only needs to look at someone to basically disable them, it is also shown that a strong blood bender can knock out entire crowds in 1 go, so knocking out the worlds strongest benders and then killing them isn't that difficult for someone who is that strong in blood bending. although I think there should be some weaker form of blood bending, like at night blood bending is at it's strongest, especially the full moon, but during the day it's much weaker, still strong but your opponent if strong enough can go against it. this bloodbending just feels like a cheat code since at any point in time a blood bender can basically just kill anyone instantly, concidering if you blood bend you can also increase the flow of blood, meaning you can pump much more blood to your heart and SPLAT. it's not like how Zaheer does the air bending thing against the Earth Queen later, where it takes time and a vacuum which he gotta create, blood bending is instant as shown constantly in Korra.

I’ve seen so many people in the fandom say that water is the strongest element (probably because of blood bending). So it makes sense
@DarkDyllon
@DarkDyllon 4 місяці тому
@@motorwayt-s628 i'm just looking at it logically, I wouldn't have called it the strongest element if it was the previous show with Aang, since there bloodbending requires a full moon to work (or atleast night time since I don't know if that 1 episode where Katara goes for revenge with Suko is during a full moon) but in Korra you can do bloodbending in broad daylight (literally) and even multi bloodbend people, this is much stronger than any bending out there. if we look at other elements and their alternate variations. Fire has Lightning, which is storng but if you can bend someones literal body with your mind? not that strong anymore, also generally needs some wind up to be strong (lightning bending) Earth has metal and lava, which yes both are strong, but if you encase yourself in metal, can you resist the blood bending? since there isn't a line of sight to said body? if yes then it's a possible counter, if no then blood bending is still the strongest. and then air bending, which it's strongest variation was what Zaheer used on the Earth Queen, where he formed a vacuum and then sucked the air out of her lungs without any new air being present, but this takes time and I doubt that you can do this on a massive scale since the air bender still needs to be able to breath, which obviously if you create a vacuum with you in it, you can't breath anymore either, but even then, being in a vacuum and being able to blood bend that air bender doing the vacuum means the vacuum dissapears, so blood bending still stronger. this is just looking at it logically, needing a full moon to blood bend gave it limitations and there for had an hard counter. in Korra it can be done at any time, even without movement, so it's massively overpowered with no real counter other than "you didn't hear or see me coming and I killed you" which I don't like, normally a variation of a bending style requires practice and discipline, in Korra it's just given. Like daylight bloodbending being somehow related to 1 family even though bending isn't specifically inheritable and you just get born with the capabilities or you're not. like lightning bending was unique that you needed a lot of training and discipline to effectively use it like Iroh, Ozai and Azula. how metal bending required a lot of effort till you finally get it (like how Toph's vibration sensing abilities being able to see the impurities of the metal and manipulate that specifically) and everyone else struggles with it till they get it. (like how Bolin and Korra both can't do metal bending even after training, while you got others who are masters at it)

re: firebending cannons, I'd think that the cannon allows less-precise firebenders to funnel a lot of power into their end while allowing the barrel to focus and direct it. Basically this would allow the bender to focus entirely on power and speed while a partner or crew can focus on the aiming. Especially for something as fast-paced as anti-aircraft defense, this seems like a good division of effort.
@DarkDyllon
@DarkDyllon 4 місяці тому
in that sense it's kinda like a sniper spotter duo, sure the sniper can technically do the spotting, but that would make him/her inaccurate since you then gotta switch between zoom levels and where you're aiming. I liked that they had a fire bending cannon powered by 1 fire bender just pumping out fire, concidering it's also a funnel, it concetrates the fire, since if you just fire bend it disperses quite quickly, you rarely see them have a thin stream of pure fire, generally a wide stream of fire that can be maintained, or when Ozai did the comet part from his ship, it started small but then quickly fanned out to a massive area of effect, basically the opposite of water since water can be more focused as it can exist without it's source. so concetrating fire through a funnel would concetrate the firepower, while you can then also have certain recruits focus on power and speed instead of accuracy, all the person gotta do is bend their hardest and maybe bend fire fast.

And that's before taking into account all the chiblocker pals he has and the fact he pretends to fight as a non-bender. But also him subtly bloodbending to win just makes it lamer. Imagine in 'The Headband' when Aang non-bending stunts on that bully without even touching him if it was revealed Aang was actually subtly airbending to throw all the bully's punches off. I think it's more like how in the real world we got the NATO alliance. where every nation is basically joined together in an alliance (united forces) and anything to threathen another nation gets met with the military might of the rest of the nations. in this case, I more think that each nation came together (more specifically to the fire side) to make a strong military, concidering they got a boat with fire, earth and water benders and each got labeled as such, would also make much less sense for the water tribe for example to even have a strong military at this point concidering this might be quite a lot of years later from Aang's time, but the water tribe had more time in the past, yet always lived secluded, I think the fire nation basically said "ok, we need to work together to make sure nobody goes rogue anymore, this is our global army, it comprises of water, fire and earth benders to cover the land and the sea" and both earth and water nations agreed. the Earth nation had an army, but very ineffective against what the fire nation could offer, like hot air balloons (basically making earth bending a lot less effective) and bombs (making their "tanks" basically a death coffin) so combining all 3 together with the military expertise from the fire nation would make the most sense.

The preservation of things would be ice, healing won't work with a disconnected body part, it still requires nutrient supply & energy from the body (weither it be chi or fat) of the patient. Reason why we see scars with those healed, even with the most pure water katara used. I'm not a face surgeon though, so I have no idea in that lane. This is a dope idea tho. I like it.

Important to note humanity has had surgeries, both cosmetic and medicinal, *long* before industrialization of any form. We have skulls from ancient Egypt with holes in them; a medical practice that relieves pressure from the skull. These skulls show that the "patient" *survived* too, I can recall cosmetic nose surgery being done in a horrific way, and it was before the Industrial Revolution. I always felt that with Amon learning chi blocking and its effect on the body, stopping the ability to bend, I think he devised a way to mess with blood flow to the brain to restrict their motor function with how they bend keeping them in that chi blocked state without the paralysis (like your leg going numb you can still move it but if feels off). Like maybe Amon is making a blood clot in the brain or shifting the blood vessels given how he is always doing the forehead touch could be him focusing on such precise alterations without killing them this also explains the sluggish movements afterwards maybe be a side effect of that shift in the blood flow. This may also explain why it didn't stop Korra from airbending it may use a different parts of the brain or is strictly spiritual kind of bending(fits in with the theme of airbending) its not like there were airbenders to practice on either way so Amon wouldn't know if it would work or not had had no reason to think otherwise since it worked for 3/4.

He always goes for the head, so he's clearly messing with that. And that would mean that Amon has excellent knowledge on the human brain and its anatomy. Now, it could just be him blocking the chakras tho, but I'm not sure if the chakra located in the brain was responsible for things like bending and I can't be assed to find a (free) way of re-watching that episode of ATLA right now.

I do wonder if they idea behind Daylight Bloodbending could just be a matter of training. Considering that Tarlokk and Amon started off training under Full Moons, maybe these rare forms of bending are like muscle training, it's hard the first time but becomes easier and easier with consistent practice. Most people even if they're capable probably never bloodbend in their life. Having specific training around doing it as much as possible at every opportunity leading to it becoming so much easier that you don't need the special moon power-up anymore I think actually makes a good deal of sense.

honestly, I kinda wish they showed that daylight bloodbending was weaker than it is. If it was based around what time of day and what moon cycle we were on I would've liked it more, since now it's basically "well, Amon is the strongest being there is right now concidering that Korra only edged a win because she randomly learns Air bending and shreds him before he can even react to it" without air bending Korra is much weaker even in the Avatar state, Which Korra doesn't master just yet. but I also find it weird that only Yakone and his sons can bloodbend, even though they both didn't know how and needed to learn from someone who can't even do it anymore, meanwhile Hamma had to learn it through years of painful training on rats and Katara was already an insanely strong bender (also much stronger than Hamma at that point) and just chanced into letting her emotions work for her and unlocked blood bending, then when her emotions ran wild again (when she was pissed) she did it again Daylight bloodbending should exist, i'm not against it on a concept level, but it should be weaker, kinda like firebending is weaker during the night since you can't draw from the sun anymore and need to draw from yourself, it still exists, but is weaker than it's daylight version. obviously regular water bending doesn't have this issue since water can exist in night and day on it's own.

Shit should have stayed in Naruto where it belongs. 12:02 Perhaps, but then we get issues like doctors being unable to tell that anything it wrong with them (so is it really blocked chi, which restricts movement?) or another bloodbender like Katara not being able to do anything. Why does a technique that has 0 to do with energybending require energybending to undo? 13:37 Half is empty spectacle (I can't believe Korra nearly gets torpedoed twice, they're accurate as fuck with those things), and the rest is a baffling flashback backstory. This is ep 11/12, the finale is next. This is when the pedal should be to the metal, and it's just an exposition dump flashback. It ends with the new plan to reveal that Amon is a waterbender, which I guess means nonbenders are wrong and stupid and have no legitimate grievances anymore. And wouldn't just be ok with using bending to remove bending - even though their kids could be benders like Katara and Toph - you know what I give up.

Amon certainly didn't think this through. He's not going to live forever, and he knows from personal experience that ex-benders can still have bender kids. Not to mention non-benders too. Bending would just come back anyway.

I think it makes sense for Katara to not know how to fix it because why would she check that?

I've always believed if you are such a powerful blood bender, couldn't you just explode people :D I mean, just think, Amon or Yakon (however it's spelt?), they are so powerful they don't even have to move to bend, couldn't they just rip all the blood out of your body at once, and whoosh, you're just a dried husk and a lot of blood on the floor :3

Actually it makes total sense that amon would use the airbending island as a secret base, its remote and no one from the city can get there except korra, and the United nations wouldn't think of that as an option

I mean, I did think ‘don’t hurt the doggies’ when the wolves were being blood bent. So yeah, spot on analysis there.
