Sanyu took a play right out of the Nestle Guide Book. Nestle even hired people off the street Somewhere in Africa to wear Nurse outfits and sell Baby Formula to the natives that was really just "Flour Water"...Close to a million African Infants died from Nutrient Deprivation. The fact that Nestle is even allowed to still be in existence speaks volumes about this situation we're currently in.

I‘m from Germany. One or two years ago, I saw a Chinese guy at my local drugstore buying all of the baby formula. Every single can. The isle was empty afterwards. When he opened the back door of his van to put his purchase inside, I saw that there were more cans stacked inside. The van was filled to the brim with baby formula when he was done. My first thought was “What a sick fck, leave some for the other parents“ but then it struck me.

I also wanted to add it is recommended babies do NOT have water until 6 months not only because it is zero nutrition for them but because their kidneys are still developing. Giving an infant water (they get enough through formula/breast feeding) can cause a condition called "Hyponaturemia" which can cause brain swelling and even death. Baby kidneys can't handle as much water as adults can. I didn't know this myself until years ago when I asked my kids doctor why giving them water is bad. She said she sees so many cases especially here in Las Vegas during the summer months of kids dying because their parents either diluted their formula incorrectly and used too much water to stretch out their expensive formula or just from giving them straight water. Anyone with questions please google this. It can save a life.
@lordtette

You probably would have been relatively fine because the amount on the bowls is a lot less than what you would be eating from the tainted baby formula especially when you compare the size of a fully grown person or a child compared to a young baby. the kidney stones would probably suck. I had blockage from a kidney stone once and yes the pain was so off the charts that I just squatted in the hospital waiting hall and starting silently sobbing with no regard for the people around me. There was no more embarrassment, no more anything, just pain. The doctor, after the ordeal was over, was even surprised that I "took it well", he asked if it was that kind of pain that makes you climb up walls and yeah I said it was like that. So even thinking about that kind of pain in a baby....damn, just damn, if pain alone could kill, this is the one to do it.

First time I've ever seen a grown man in the fetal position, on the floor...crying loudly in pain with full on tears...with no care about who was seeing him this way...was him passing a kidney stone. And this guy was a tough, scrappy, & never been pampered or catered to a day in his life. Childbirth is a process our body was built to go through. A kidney stone is not naturally supposed to be passed. Yes, there's a route it takes, but it's existence in the first place is a malfunction, & your body is just doing the best it can to regain its functions. If there's babies out there, passing kidney stones, that's a horrible pain filled existence for those babies who won't KNOW anything but the pain. These companies are sadistic murderers.

The baby formula shortage was/is worldwide and still going on in many places and is mostly caused by a massive number of Chinese people going to other countries and buying up all the formula so that they can ship it off to China for a huge profit, because no-one in China trusts Chinese made formula anymore due to scandals like this and the big head baby scandal, so they only use foreign stuff. And with the massive number of babies that need feeding in China that's a lot of formula they're importing. A lot of countries still have nationwide limitations on the amount of formula you're allowed to buy in shops because it still keeps happening, but they get around this by travelling to several different shops at a time. Unfortunately a lot of people in China get scammed or have to pay tons of money for something they so desperately need while kids in other countries go hungry from the shortages, so it's a lose lose situation for everyone except the people shipping and selling the formula. The screw ups of these few companies in just one country have had such a massive impact around the world and hurts everyone except the people taking advantage of the situation for profit.

The fear against formula may also come from Nestlé and their own scandal of agressively marketing it to poor countries where potable water is scarce, telling the people that it's better than breast milk, and then ending up killing a bunch of those babies because not only was the milk, in fact, not better than breast milk, but the instructions on how to prepare the formula were never translated into the language of said countries, so parents would unknowingly give their babies formula prepares and heavily diluted with dirty unboiled water. This happened in the 70s if I'm not mistaken, but Nestlé still does a lot of bad shit in the present

If you can’t pee, your body is unable to remove toxins from the body. Your kidneys main function is to remove the toxins. They will swell (hydrophrenosis) This on its own hurts and requires emergency intervention! I have had this due to kidney stones. The whole process is incredibly painful, high risk of uro-sepsis which kills!! (I survived this 4 times!!) Once you have had kidney stones, you are likely to have them again within 5 years so it becomes rinse and repeat!! Anyone who, knowingly, allows this to happen to babies should go through this!! I remember when this happened. I live in Australia, and there were literally hundreds of thousands of Chinese people buying up massive quantities of baby formula. I had 2 young babies at the time, and it was nearly impossible to get my babies the formula that they were used to. I basically had to just get whatever was left over on the nearly bare shelves. It was just too dangerous to try to get in early , as there were actually fights, physical fights , that broke out between customers bulk buying. Then , the stores thought that if they put a limit on how many tins of formula you cld buy per person, it wld work. But sadly no. The Chinese ' workers' , ( who were sent to get as much formula as possible), started going through the shops many times a day, at different locations. When that was almost stopped, they then began bribing random members of the public to go purchase the formula!! And this was happening all the way down in little ole Tasmania, the literal ass-end of the world, next stop , Antarctica!!! It really affected me deeply, seeing how desperate these poor people were , and how far they had travelled, just to get what their country SHOULD HAVE given them in the first place, quality products. It really hit home, as I couldn't imagine not being able to get my babies what they needed, ( I was, back then, and still am , very poor, so there were more times than I'd like to admit having to resort to stealing formula, due to its outrageous cost), but it was always, to the best of my knowledge, quality product at least.

Sadly… breast milk is also usually the safest option as water sources in certain places in the world may not be suitable for children (or adults). So even if formula isn’t contaminated, poisoned, or lacking essential nutrients the water itself could be unsafe… so it’s even more horrific that formula can’t be trusted as not all ppl can breast feed (physically or bc they are working to support their family) and/or could lack access to a diet that would support breast feeding.

Yeah, you're right. In Australia, they did limit the amount of baby formula you could purchase. But it didn't help. I remember when heading to the shops in the morning and waiting for them to open, I saw multiple Asian families waiting outside. Men, women, and sometimes children. When the doors opened at 8am, they all literally ran to the baby formula put it in trollies, and split it up between them all at the counter to purchase the stuff. None was left after 8.02 when I walked by. I felt bad for the people affected, if it was sent to their families, sure. But these people wanting to make money affected people worldwide. One of the worst affected areas was Fuyang, where the local hospital has treated 66 cases, eight of whom died, in the past year. But the reports said the condition had been detected in seven counties and caused at least 50 deaths. In some cases the babies died after just a few days of being fed on products with little more nutritional value than water.

He dropped to the ground in the fettle position crying in pain. I was only 11 at the time and never saw anything like this before. My grandfather took us to the hospital and at one point at a red light my dad stepped out of the car and threw up from the pain. It turned out he had MULTIPLE kidney stones at once. My dad only cried a handful of times and, to be honest, this time was probably the hardest he ever cried to my knowledge. As a former nurse, when I say, ''Drink water and stay hydrated!'' I mean it. Everyone's different, so I'm sure someone out there will be like "I had a huge stone and it never bothered me!" but my dad is retired military and a 'strapping lad' now growing older; he's not at all a pushover, and yet he went out of his way to mention this. Crazy how this case impacts even my village in rural France. Normandie is well-known for its cows and dairy food productions, especially Isigny Sainte-Mère which has an excellent reputation due its old existence and quality + it's quite a big company. When the case of Sanlu products happened the group H&H (the 4th company in infant formula in China) started imported milk from Isigny so they gave them money to get all stuff necesary to do so. Now it represents 30% of annual sales (and it is like 150 millions €). I just find that crazy how connections are made and how far this case went and changed things across the globe. But the starting point of this case is just horrible, some people killed babies over money, they knew the consequences of their act and to me this the most terrifying point : they did it on purpose just to have more money. And btw I read an article talking about this case and it said "AT LEAST 6 babies died" so yeah nobody believes China on that number...

I live in Australia and to this day, 16 years later, there's a very strict limit on formula purchases, it's gone up to a 4 can maximum but it was 2 for a long time. Even today there are special locks on all of the lids of formula cans in stores to prevent people stealing formula - of course some of the thefts are just Australian parents who need food for their babies, but for over a decade there have been problems with large amounts of formula being bought or stolen to send to China. I feel terrible for all of those parents in China who, to this day, are afraid that the milk they feed their baby might actually poison them so they'll pay huge amounts for imported formula that they know is safe. The idea of parents who are just trying to do what is best for their baby learning that the milk they feed them made them sick or in the worst cases killed them breaks my heart. Truly awful, it makes me feel sick to think about.

@@helenwoods1467 China's economy is so bad that sadly it's become very common for people to only worry about themselves and how they can make money and not how they can effect others. I watched a video about fake food and health products being sold in China. There's a herb called Moxa which is used in a traditional Chinese medicine practice called Moxibustion which involves burning moxa. In the video I watched a man who sold Moxa explained that he would grind up cardboard into a flaky powder that looks similar to moxa and add just enough moxa so that it had the fragrance of moxa. Obviously much cheaper to make and sells for the same price. Another place I saw used ground up cardboard mixed with meat and sauce as fillings for dumplings. In the video there was an interview with an old lady who said something along the lines of "Chinese don't even care about Chinese anymore, they don't care about their own people all they want is to make money" and that's so sad. When people are struggling so much that they will do anything to make money even if it means feeding people cardboard or feeding babies melamine, they just look the other way. Of course not all Chinese are like this, but it is becoming more and more common in China that practices like this are happening to increase profits because the economy is struggling so much. I worry about people in Australia having access to enough formula to feed their babies, when people were taking too much formula to send to China and leave people here with a shortage, but also you know that the people selling that formula to Chinese are scalping and probably selling it at extreme prices that go far beyond the cost of getting it to China and a small profit for them, the people selling Australian formula to Chinese people are making huge amounts of money on the desperation of these parents who just want to make sure the food their babies need to survive is safe. Every baby deserves safe, nutritious food. That'd why I always say "if you see someone stealing baby formula, no you didn't.". Because every baby deserves food and most of the time the people stealing formula are just trying to feed their baby, but there definitely was and sometimes still is an issue with people stealing formula to send to China and whilst I don't have an issue with the people who need to feed their babies I have an issue with the people trying to make a huge profit on the people who need to feed their babies, taking advantage of the desperation of parents wanting their child to be fed and healthy.

Kidney stone pain comes from them scraping through your ureters and then your urethra. I've had 5 stones and 5 major infections, starting when I was 15. (30 now) They are absolutely, 100%, no joke, brutally painful. In the midst of one of my ER trips, I told a nurse, who was ignoring me btw, "Please help me... My insides are melting. I'm not okay." Then I peed into a cup, and it was the color of dark tea. It only takes a tiny amount of blood to change the color of your urine, so my *URINARY TRACT* was bleeding ALOT. Also, the stones won't kill you, but the infection from the inability to pee and the internal injuries from the scraping will. I was really, really bad off during the last one, and even after. I had a horrible fever and headache for nearly two weeks, and my body felt ruined. I was living in a painful twilight zone. That being said, the thought of an INFANT, a teeny tiny baby, dealing with even a fraction of the pain I felt makes me nauseous. That's absolutely terrible. And it was all over money. Disgusting. @@KayLuckyKay I'm not a baby specialist nor mom, but I have study and some experience with taking care of nurturing moms so, while baby formula mixtures have a higher nutritional value than many other kinds of food on top of (normally) being safe to consume, a baby that is fed only on baby formula will still be malnourished, will have a hard time digesting, on top of having excess on certain nutrients and end up accumulating fat, not even saying that they will have a bad time with diseases since their systems will be kinda frail, since human milk don't only have nutrients, but antibodies, also they'll have a halted development, meaning the baby will have learning problems in the beginning of their infancy, all because they had a very bad time assimilating the nutrients in the formula at the beginning of their whole life. I also heard it is less likely for babies to accept solids when exclusively fed on formula, because formula (being puree) is kind of lame and boring to a baby, they get used and will have a hard time tasting anything else. But also, there is a solution to every problem: If a mom can't breastfeed due to clinical problems, there is someone in some community that over-produces milk who is very eager to donate all that extra milk to any needing baby. Yes, I know all that because I lived with some moms with little newborns in their arms. On the topic or kids in danger, I would like to bring awareness to what is happening to the kids in Marajó island in Brazil, the kids there are suffering seriou ab*s3 every single day, their families are selling their kids in order to survive, 12 year old kids are having their second pregnancy in a roll…it is so important to give this case attention before the mídia just decides these are old news, please bring awareness to this island! If anyone is reading this comment please research anything about this case or at least spread the word! As a Brazilian citizen myself it is scary to know how close from home this case is taking place

Oh my god, this is horrific... is there a news article or something you can share?

I looked it up, and found articles claiming disinformation and defamation. It could be helpful for Stephanie to look into it, as she might be able to distinguish between truth and lies.

This is the first time I have watched you. I was amazed by the topic and the way you give the facts and the way you present all the information. Your totally awesome. Thank you. What a tragedy and all the greed in the world. So sad 😢

after she said hunting when talking about Sanlu, or the 3 deer's and their logo popped up on the screen, I immediately thought of a rifle scope with how the deer are in in a circle and it's all red.

I’ve kidney stones I can’t even imagine a baby getting them. My last time I was scanned my right kidney was almost twice the size as the left the urine was so backed up. In other news I hate money and what it makes people do.

I get kidney stones too and the thought of a tiny baby dealing with that level of pain makes me sick. How awful.

Same. I gave birth naturally and didn't scream or cry, but kidney stones were so unbearable that I went out to the shed with a pillow, buried my face in it and screamed until I almost passed out (it was 3 am and I was trying not to wake my family up sounding like I was being murdered.) So it's not an exaggeration when women say they would rather give birth, it's really that bad, and it makes sense- childbirth is something our bodies are designed to do. I can't imagine if my baby was experiencing that pain. She actually had severe constipation from formula and the screams were heartbreaking.

People who have the courage to question things, create needed change. Must respect to the doctor, the father of the 13 year olds, the parents and people who listened. Such a tragic incident for these babies and their families.

What a great doctor! He understood the situation and was willing to give up everything to help these babies. Yes, its his work to help people, but not every doctor would risk it all. I am glad he took the chance to do something!

I suddenly understand why my family insists so much in porcelain, glass and clay stuff for food, and everything else either to refrigerate or throw in the trash. Thank you!

I remember this, my son was born the end of 2007 in the US and because of my “inability to breastfeed” (nurses at the hospital gave my baby a bottle without my permission instead of helping me breastfeed) so he wouldn’t breastfeed after that. It broke my heart. We soon had to deal with the shortage and only being able to get a few cans of formula at a time. At the same time there was a scandal over BPA in plastic bottles so mothers were being told to buy glass bottles, and they were way more expensive, which left many frightened that something bad would happen because there was no help from the companies producing the plastic bottles. All this happened at the same time as the recession and my husband was let go from a company basically doing the same thing, and funny enough his wife was heir to the Gerber foundation. He was cheating on her and stealing money from the company that she helped him build and saying that products were sold that weren’t so he could get more loans to steal from. Eventually it started crashing down and he started firing top workers and hiring two inexperienced for the cost of one. He was eventually raided by the government who took the whole company over. But we had to start from scratch back up, because my husband was still technically fired. With a small infant. It sickens me that something so important as babies and families can be made into greed and brushed under the rug. My second child I was older and more determined and I wouldn’t let them use nipple shields and catheters (found out I had flat, almost inverted nipples) and I nursed until my nips were black and blue 😅then went to a professional lactation expert, who helped me immensely more than the hospital. I breastfed for almost 2 years despite the terrible pain in the beginning, because I never wanted my child to be subjected to whatever the formula companies decided was good for my baby. Free and healthy and thriving baby girl. Thankful that my son didn’t have to go through the horrors of the people of China, it’s sick that they can put a price on the life of a child. Period. Greed, money power, root of all evil

My poor father has just has surgery to have his 14th kidney stone removed this past summer, he’s told me so many stories about how painful they are.

This is the reason we were running out of formula in the shops 7yrs ago. People were buying it all and shipping overseas. Because desperate parents couldn't trust the companies over there. Unfortunately the result was that many Australian parents had to have restrictions on the number of vans of formula we were able to buy. I haven’t needed to buy formula for 4yrs so I don't know what the situation is now.

I used to work for an airport in the UK, the crews from many of the Asian airlines often had numerous tubs of baby formula in their cases when checking in for their return flights, we assumed it was cheaper to buy when they were travelling, this makes sense now!!

I had a kidney stone once. I lierally prayed that I would die! I took a bath as hot as I could stand to try and relax. I found the stone in my tub at the end of the bath. (I know peeing in my tub was gross, but at that point, I didn't care!) The stone was the size of a split pea. I agree with the woman who said she would rather give birth 100 times than to pass a stone.
