Thanks for actually taking the time to try and use the Vision Pro for productivity. Seems like every other review online is someone just trying to love it or hate it based on whether or not they're an Apple/VR fan. I'm not buying a $3500 device, I just want to know what it's like to do work in VR!

Yes, seems like every review I see is someone who bought it and after four days makes a “in-depth” review. Honestly, since this review, I’ve upgraded to the visionOS Beta 1.2 and it’s gotten a lot better with the eye tracking and selecting small items.

VP with the connect version (mirror) does not work great, at all. As a matter of fact, it was unusable on my macbook pro m3max until I went in and changed settings (It was plugged in). I went to Redditt to find solutions: turn battery to high performance, and drop resolution to 1080. If you do not do this, the mouse had MAJOR lag and was unusable and did dc a few times. I still love the VP, native apps are ok, but for me, its for multimedia, not productivity. Maybe microlearning.

Great video. I think working in that form factor, in 3D space is worth it. The ability to move, shape and organize all of the apps available from the Mac and iPad’s mind blowing. It’s something people have wanted from the iPad for years. I don’t get your difficulty navigating the windows. The variety of inputs are outstanding. With the AVP you can use a keyboard, trackpad, touch, voice and the rumor of pencil support, I would be flying through task once I figured out a system. I think about the new ways coming to experience retailers redesigning the shopping experience or the tours from our National Parks or Hollywood making horror movies that places you in the movie and I’m jealous. Once Apple can get the price down to affordable, I’m all in!

On the downloading a file thing, I found that though it seems like nothing is happening, there is a thin progress bar somewhere on the browser page and when that finishes your file is ready in downloads. I then move it to a folder in my files folder if i plan to keep it. On a broader point, I don’t even attempt to use VP for things my MACs does well with a keyboard or mouse. VP is guaranteed to lose in that measure. You have to find a use case for which VP boosts your productivity. I recently did my taxes on my VP. I had all my forms and info in my files folder as PDFs and then each open in its own window on VP. With TT on my MBP, i opened it on VP as a huge window whose size and distance was such that i could read the text better than on the MBP with 16-inch. I used the MBPs keyboard and mouse to navigate. All input of info was read from a window on AVP and typed into TT on my MBP, but into a huge window. And the those PDF files on AVP were sized and positioned to make reading easy. On the whole, this was better than doing it all from the laptop as I could see all windows with nothing hidden off screen. Another application is the help session I am doing soon. I will host over Zoom. I share my iPad screen with the class and work out an engineering exam during session. Where the AVP comes in is that i have the solution to the exam open as a PDF in a window on AVP. This way, as I work the exam i have all the numbers right in front of me in a large window so I don’t have to spend time doing messy calculations over, which is error prone and slow. Since i already did the solutions on my own calculator ahead of time I am confident about those numbers. This makes the session so much better. This proves to be better than having the solution printed on paper or open in another window on my PC. And, I can size and position the window as I need to see those pesky details best!! It may be hard to appreciate that without doing it yourself. Now, these are what I’m finding in my daily work. Both are things I do at home, though. I don’t take my AVP to work with me and have no plans to do so. I can do almost all of my work from home. I hope I didn’t leave too many typos in this. i peaked it all out with one finger on my phone. I don’t plan to replaces things my computers do well with AVP, but i seek to enhance what I do already with AVP, where it makes sense. Virtual meetings with personas is very near. From my time in InSpaze and Facetime, this will definitely enhance group meetings. Price is still a barrier, as I don’t see buying grad students and collaborators an AVP so we can meeting in a VR /AR space, but that is coming.

Thanks for the comment! Yea, it's always interesting finding out how other people use their Vision Pros. I could easily have made this video an hour with all the variables involved. Also, yea a combo of Mac Virtual Display and Vision Pro Window is always great!

Your thorough analysis of the Apple Vision Pro’s productivity capabilities and eye-tracking functionality truly clarifies what users can expect. This deep dive into Vision Pro’s features makes me reflect on my recent exploration of the Gucci Spatial app. The experience was absolutely phenomenal and provided a starkly different immersion compared to Apple’s Immersive Video on Apple TV+.

I use a Magic Keyboard and Trackpad (unified with a 3D printed “tray” from an Etsy seller). So I switch between the trackpad/keyboard for fine detail control, and use eye tracking and pinch for broader things like moving windows, etc.

That tray is a great idea! Thanks for sharing!

Thanks for the review. New subscriber. I use my Vision Pro for work and watching video, etc. I think your first two cons may be related to your lenses or eye tracking. I start most work sessions by opening a random document and testing the tracking. If it’s off at all I reset the lenses. That usually does it but if not I redo the eye tracking. After that I have no issues selecting individual words anywhere in a document. Still minor issues with certain small boxes on websites, but not a lot. Sounds like a lot of work, but it’s about a minute and I’m sure I’m always putting it on a little different.

I’ll give that a try! Thanks

I’m using the Quest 3 & Immersed to work in a multi-desktop environment with my MacBook Pro. It works surprisingly well, at ~15% of the price of the Apple Vision Pro. And I can take it with me when traveling. That being said, if Apple or Immersed get multiple virtual macOS desktops working on the Apple Vision Pro, I’ll probably buy one.
