I tripped one time and was absolutely hysterical with laughter because for the first time in 2 decades I wasn't in pain or anxious or even remotely suicidal. I stayed up all night dancing and feeling grass and just breathing. I felt happy just to be able to breathe. So no matter how bad my depression and intrusive thoughts have been since then I keep reminding myself that for one small moment I loved every single part of myself and all the bits that had made me who I am.

@@TheGuindo it's been slow but everyday I'm finding new reasons why it'd be a sad waste to just throw myself away like that. I got to live to tell my dad I was proud of him and hold my sister's baby. Looking into my mom's face when she smiles and knowing I'll look just like her in another 30yrs. There's more that I want to live for and less that I could justify dying over.

@9elypses

@@xxxxMaddnesSxxxx no its really not safe. I'm someone that ssris don't work on so that's why I tried it. If you feel like your meds aren't doing enough your safest option is to try different ones. If you do come off your meds for whatever reason then I would recommend trying it out. You also need to be really sure you're not in a self destructive head space. I hate that psilocybin gets grouped with drugs like cocaine and heroin. Mushrooms are a remedy, not a vice! I went on a micro dose treatment for a couple of months and within the first week, every sight of a cigarette got me questioning why I was doing all that to myself. It really works.

As someone who openly supports the use of many psychedelics, I must point out... It's important to realize that both the propaganda AND this segment are the same type of presentation. Both are selling a stance: one against, one for. The order in which you watched them should not be the thing that controls your understanding of the topic. You still need to criticize and fact-check. Attack both with equal ferocity. (the result will undoubtedly be the confirmation that usage is grossly positive. I'm just saying...)

It completely changed my life for the better and I'm now a 31 year old man with an amazing outlook on life and myself. Funny thing is that LSD also "told me" that I was done with the drug after the 7th trip and I haven't felt the need or desire to do it anymore. My last trip was 3 years ago. I had done psychedelics in my youth, recreationally. But now, as an adult, i had a completely other reason to try them. I once had a depressive phase in which I felt that nothing in my life was going right. By chance, I came into possession of some shrooms. I had never tried anything like that in my entire life, but I thought, what the heck. It wasn't a fun trip, didn't feel like a party drug, but one night changed everything. I realized that all the things that were dragging me down were completely irrelevant. I was focusing way too much on little things and ignoring the big picture. Just one week later I made some radical decisions and changed some things fundamentally in my life and since then I have never been even remotely that depressed again. It was as if this experience opened my eyes and made me look behind the curtain. It made me realize that I was only hurting myself by dragging myself down and that it was up to me to pull myself out of it, and that's exactly what I did. The result was a new career, a new girlfriend and a completely different direction in life. Admittedly, these were hard cuts, but it was like a reboot; everything back to the beginning and not repeating the same mistakes a second time.

MDMA was a life-changing experience for me. Groups of people on MDMA are the most thoughtful, considerate folks ever…lol. I am a very anxious person who also deals with lifelong depression. It actually allowed me to think objectively about my feelings and the way things were affecting me. I even realized how my anxiety was affecting other people. It forever changed the way I deal with anxious moments, as well as other humans and even animals. It’s been over 15 years since my last time, but those moments of my psychic containers just fading away could have been yesterday. I believe every human on Earth should try it once. The first time I did Shrooms I was pretty nervous. A friend had cobbled together a pipe with duct tape. I kept thinking about the duct tape melting or burning. As soon as that smoke hit my lungs they refused it and I coughed. Second try and I was able to draw it in, then again. As soon as it activated I was just like.... Oh I'm here. I know this place. The cathedral. A place I go when I'm tripping hard. It's so weird that I've become so comfortable with psychedelics that i have a home away from home.

James Fadiman said on Sam Harris's podcast that there's actually not much evidence that people with mental disorders are at a higher risk of having some sort of negative long-term impact after having a psychedelic experience. Such people have never been included in studies because researchers worry that any mental deterioration such people may experience would be attributed to the psychedelic even if this wasn't the primary factor. In short, there's really no data on this.

@@Marijuanifornia Can we have a quick dialogue about this? I see that you have an extensive history of spamming hemp-related comments on this channel. I find this very curious. Surely you recognize that this is one of the few TV shows that has been cutting through anti-drug propaganda for a long time. LWT represents a mainstream media source that is actually doing the influence campaigns that you seem to want. Personally, I'm grateful for it. They have a huge platform with millions of viewers, and they use it to push messages of harm reduction and decriminalization. They are doing the work. But you seem to be particularly stuck on the 1940s-era USDA video, which was created after Japan cut off supply lines of vital hemp resources from other Asian nations. It's a fun video, historically important, and shows how valuable hemp is to national interests-- but is it really that relevant to your cause today? Surely you are aware that hemp can be legally grown in the USA now, ever since the passage of the 2018 Farm Bill. That was a mission that legalization groups had been working on for decades, and they finally succeeded. Also, your suggestion to "spearhead" a movement to end the drug war? The "spearheading" already happened. The movement has been around for 50 years. Multiple organizations have been working on this effort for ages. They have access to resources, connections in D.C., and specific legal measures that they continue to push. I think the best thing the average person can do is contribute to these causes that are already in action. What say you? What are you really trying to accomplish with all these UKposts comments...?

@@tabularasa When was the last time that you heard anyone on television say the words, *"Hemp for Victory?"* When was the last time that you heard of anyone on television show the Special Tax Stamp from the film to their national audience? Never. Not once. In your entire life. I know that I'm right about this. I know what *Hemp for Victory* means to me, my family, my freedom, my country and my planet. I have to "spam" this in every video's comment section because your parents, your teachers, your politicians, your tv and radio talk show hosts, your priests, and your podcasters won't tell you about it. Why won't they tell you about it? I am a disabled veteran of the US Army who uses Cannabis daily for a life-threatening seizure disorder. My grandfather fought through Hell on Earth during World War II. My father worked in a library for 30 years and collected books and magazines about World War II. He had read thousands of books. _Thousands._ When my father saw *Hemp for Victory,* he said, "I've never even heard of this." That is how I know the extent to which this was censored. *Hemp for Victory* was nearly erased from existence and any mention of it purged from public memory, all so that "Marijuana" could be outlawed again to wage the "war on drugs." That is how I know that the general public has never heard of this. If my father who had read thousands of books about World War II (and grew up in the 60s and 70s) had never heard of "Marihuana" being legalized to win the war, then the generally uneducated public who never read anything had certainly never heard of it. Prominent hippie activists during the Vietnam war would have known about it and made undeniable points about it. Any newscaster in the last 75 years would have made a mention of it. Some online blogger somewhere would have made a mention of it. By 2023, this would be known throughout the country, and all of that "hope and change" for which you're clamoring would have already happened. Millions of Americans are voting across the country to "legalize" Cannabis Sativa while complaining online about the rise of right-wing fascism, while there is a government video on a government website that teaches you how to legally grow Cannabis Sativa to actually fight against right-wing fascism, and barely anyone knows about it, and even fewer people care. After more than a decade of talking incessantly about this in college classrooms and online forums, I moved from California to Maryland to print out the official US National Archives link to *Hemp for Victory* on paper and pass them out around Congress. I've been arrested 3 times on the steps of the Capitol building in Washington DC for showing a government website to a government video to government officials who voted to approve the funding that keeps that link online. THAT is how hopeless my endeavor is. At this point, and I am not kidding about this, I want to be crucified (physically nailed to a cross) and stood up in the grass of the National Mall at the Washington Monument, facing Congress with a big sign over my head to the US National Archives link to *Hemp for Victory.* Maybe then, just _maybe,_ that will get *Hemp for Victory* on the news. Let's do this.

I had severe depression for around 10 years and there are a few things I can point to that helped me overcome it, and an apparently low dose of psilocybin I had when I was on holiday in Amsterdam was one of the major things. I felt so well and alive for several weeks afterwards and it gave me so much clarity on the way I was feeling and the thought patterns I was having that perpetuated the depression that I was brought to tears. It was definitely a huge stepping stone to getting better and I really think it should be administered as medicine for severe cases. By the way, this is probably obvious to most but just in case, if a bunch of "people" reply to this telling you to contact a certain person or visit a certain website to obtain psychadelics, they are spam bots and it is a scam.

I've done a lot of talk therapy, and my symptoms have abated enough that when I heard a chair screech at a restaurant today, I merely whipped my head around rather than diving under the table. I found out a couple years back that I was considered a "tricky" patient to match with a therapist, mostly because of some odd cognitive and personality traits that make me a little strange in general. I was willing to take the meds and do the work, but I'm slow to trust and my mind works a little differently from the average, and that made everything harder. If I hadn't lucked into (as it turned out) the weirdest therapist in the county, I'd probably still be having flashbacks and freezing every time a door slams. And I live in a populous urban area with decent insurance coverage. How many people like me DIDN'T luck into getting therapy from a complete weirdo who was willing to work with another one? I hope this new research can help some of the many, MANY people who need it.

Sure, it was absolutely friggen terrifying, but it gave me perspective on non-existence and fragility of my consciousness. I also think I could absolutely take on that experience again with knowledge I now have. The other important thing to always remember from before you even take a psychedelic (regardless of if the trip turns out pleasant or bad), is that the experience is temporary. I just completed ketamine-assisted therapy for cptsd and suicidal ideation. It has been *life* changing. Not only was I able to process my trauma, I now feel like I have the tools and a completely different mindset of challenges/triggers in life. Like I appreciate them because I’m able to sit with myself, feel and process my emotions fully rather than pushing it down or ignoring it or feeing existential crisis. I went from wanting to end my life a few months ago…to literally being a different person. This could save so many lives and change peoples lives. But what it does ultimately is put power back into people…so the government will probably make this difficult but I’m hopeful that the people will actually make this change. It starts with each individual person doing the work. Hopefully it’s a ripple effect, but we need to slowly come back to our own bodies and our own power: untie ourselves from the government or control. They won’t make that easy to do but psychedelic assisted therapy when done correctly with integration, is life changing

We realized that we were ignoring our own needs and doing things we didn't enjoy for the sake of others. We realized that we felt more shame than we thought we did, in general, and on mushrooms, the shame just wasn't there. We were able to reflect on ourselves and our relationship to our identity, life, and needs with a striking clarity, and ever since then, our approach with oirselves has been much more honest. Our life has its difficulties still, but we are able to sit with uncomfortable truths with clarity and without judgement. It completely changes the game.

I’m a therapist who was the victim of an attempted murder at my work facility during the height of the pandemic due to systemic negligence. I am still in the throes of brutal trauma due to the abuse perpetrated upon me by my employer through worker’s comp, which has been way worse than the actual assault itself. My life and my life’s work was destroyed, all because I went to work, provided direct patient care at the height of the deadliest pandemic we’ve ever known. And as I’ve said, I am, or rather, was, a therapist. Working in a psychiatric prison, where my services were sorely needed. Nothing has come close to helping me, not therapy of any type, not medications, except for Ketamine assisted treatment. I’ve been a responsible clinician and always did my own therapy and paid for my own clinical supervision. I was diligent in my pursuit of continuing education. I did everything in my power, including obtaining my own PPE when my employer had none available, so that I continued seeing my patients. Until my preventable but systemically and criminally inevitable last workplace assault. Again, the one that destroyed me and led me to numerous suicide attempts. I just started Ketamine. It’s my only hope at this point. It has made a difference. The last thing I can say is that the system will do everything in its power to interfere with people having access to this type of treatment. And, just as John says, this isn’t a simple pill. You do have to undergo therapy, it’s not a random drug situation like you would take at a club. But still, I can see how the powers that be will do everything they can to interfere with people having affordable access to this type of treatment. I’ve had to return to work so as not to end up homeless, and only ketamine kept me from killing myself. I still had a breakdown and it’s so difficult to be there, but without my ketamine assisted treatment I’d already be dead. I am so grateful to my doctor and my 2 therapists. And yes, I pay for this out of pocket and I am broke thanks to my workplace assault. But whatever. This is a serious treatment protocol that needs to be made accessible to people.

I've had severe depression and OCD since I was a small child, no matter what type of medicine or therapy I tried nothing worked. The first time I tried shrooms, which was in a control setting, safe environment and with an intention/ goal, there was also someone there to ground me and we had liquids as well as food. The experience changed my life, I was able to see into my mind and not feel the usual negative emotions, instead I felt as if I was connected to the universe and that nothing was as bad as it seemed, after that, my depression and OCD got better. I didn't get magically cured but my symptoms did get better and for a long time after that trip I was in a good mood, I felt better about myself and as if things weren't as dreadful and filthy as my mind had made it out to be. I recommend it to anyone so long as its done from a place of respect and love to better oneself instead of trying to be the cool kid, also understand that people CAN get a bad trip that's one of the reason it should not be done alone and in certain environments.

I feel your frustration regarding the US government’s hard stance on magic mushrooms and the hesitancy of people in sharing info in public settings online. I was in a similar place as you 4 years ago dealing with debilitating CPTSD. After reading many research articles, studies and trials, I was assured that a very high therapeutic dose of magic mushrooms was right for me. Although I realized the feds probably wouldn’t approve the therapeutic use of psilocybin in my lifetime. My only option was to grow the mushrooms myself. Those mushrooms worked like a miracle for my condition. Growing your own mushrooms requires work but it is not that difficult. Mushroom growing kits are widely available online, even on Etsy and Amazon. Then find an online supplier of completely legal psilocybe cubensis mushroom spore syringes.

I remember I had done a college thesis on the use of psychoactives in clinical therapy settings, basing my studies on what little research I could uncover from the early to mid 50s. After the presentation, when I opened the floor for questions, my professor raised her hand. I called on her. She stated two things: that psychoactive therapy is "stupid science" and the chemical equivalent of hitting yourself over the head with a baseball bat to cure a cold. I feel like that experience soured me on pursuing that study any further and I really hate that because I feel like I would have been ahead of the curve.

it is really wonderful to read other people’s experiences with healing through psychedelics here. I’ve only done shrooms once, and they didn’t hit very hard, but my girlfriend and i felt way more connected afterwards. it felt like we were able to communicate and see each other’s perspectives vividly, and while it didn’t cure my mental illnesses or anything, it did give me a boost of confidence and new motivation to pursue my interests. as someone with treatment resistant depression who has been in therapy for five years, tried 25+ SSRI’s, and trans-cranial magnetic stimulation, I would be incredibly excited to try them or something similar with a therapist guiding me. experiencing that is definitely something I can see opening up new ways to cope with depressive episodes.

I didn't experience psychedelic assisted therapy myself but a fellow patient once told me about her PTSD therapy. She suffered from a childhood trauma because her chronically ill father regularly had her organise his pill dispensers when she was only 9 or 10 years old and ever so often he told her if she got it wrong he'd be dead. When her mother found out months later the damage was already done and when her father finally died about 10 years later it all bubbled up again. Although she knew she had nothing to do with his death her messed up brain connected it to her forced upon responsibility for his drugs. It got so bad that whenever she got near a pill dispenser she panicked. To break this connection up she had multiple drug induced regression sessions in which first her doctor acted as another adult who put her dad in his place. If someone was with her in that room back then and spoke up for her she maybe wouldn't have suffered from this trauma in the first place. In later session he had her as the adult she now is stand up for the kid she was then so she subconsciously learned she isn't that helpless kid anymore. The drugs helped her to ease up and overcome this inner barrier that kept her from what she really needed to do since years - scream all the things that bothered her right into her dead father's face. And it worked magic. We staid in contact and as far as I heard she didn't need any more therapy since then.

@@ShantyIrishman (sorry for long comment you don't have to read it all) that's fine for you, but you should not correct other people that they're a "sober alcoholic" and not a "former alcoholic". the difference is meaningful to you but it's not like you can tell someone else how they're dealing with something the whole idea that "there's no such thing as a former addict" is from the 12-step program, which is christian. it doesn't even make sense to say across the board all addicts will have the same struggle. christians are the types to think in very black and white, no room for nuance or different human experiences. I'm a former addict (opiates) and it was for about 3 years. Technically 1.5 years, then almost 1.5 years in a program with therapy. Never had a thought, or craving, or dream, or anything about it since. When I quit I was still in an drug relationship and he did not quit. He would do it front of me and I was never tempted. I'm a former addict, not a sober addict. Last thing, I am an atheist as well, but we CANNOT claim we are not influenced in our thinking by christianity. we are all completely steeped in christian culture. unless you notice that something is illogical and suspiciously christian. you have to purposefully root it out of your mode of thinking. unfortunately many atheists think simply being atheist means we're objective in our thinking and completely free from christianity but it's just not so. you have to individually inspect each opinion you have and figure out what it's rooted in and if it's actually logical. in this case, if sober addict works for you then that's good and I'm glad it helps you, but I really don't think you should label other people's affliction for them. have a great day/night

I’ve finally exhausted all the traditional SSRI options. The SNRIs have finally come down in cost enough to where I can afford them if I lose my insurance. So I started transitioning from Paxil (spent 10 + years on Celexa , 6 months on Paxil and I sucks) to Cymbalta. Well it does something . And quickly . Went from full persistent depressive state that I had been in in for months to a 4 day manic episode. I guess something is better than nothing. Problem is nothing helps with the anxiety and rapid cycling. Microdosing mushrooms tho….. that helps! And doesn’t send ones brain on a roller coaster ride. I’m lucky that I’ve been dealing with this for so long that I’m pretty self aware of my condition and moods (now that I’m almost 40) and what a manic episode looks like. Because I’ve never had an antidepressant go from 0 - 120 in 3 days. And for others less conscious of their condition that could have been bad.

I hope these drugs help people, but I’m also thinking about all those horrid, terrifying LSD trips I’ve heard about. When you’re screwing with brain chemistry you better know what you’re doing. It has to be very controlled and studied before we fall into a “this is the cure all we’ve been looking for” in the same way Prozac was seen. Now we know the serotonin hypothesis was pure bs and the drugs had only slightly higher positive results than placebos while also putting people in a chronic depressive state. And you can’t get off the stuff without going through hell. Let’s not get too excited yet and that “it was hellish but it was still good” sounds extremely selective.

We walked around the city for a couple hours, then he decided he was tired and left, leaving me still going strong. Not good. Very bad turn, a situation I couldn't stop. I’ve been closely following this issue for over a decade and John did GREAT! The only other thing I would add is every single mental health treatment hurts someone at some point, including talk therapy. We need to accept that and stand behind how incredibly rare it is with psychedelics *even when they’re completely unregulated and done in terrible settings* . TONS of Americans have done psychedelics while illegal and the number that are hurt, not having an unpleasant few hours, but actually hurt, is shockingly low. In a therapeutic setting with regulated pure material it would obviously be even less

@bernieworrel2904. You are so right about that! Being depressed but not realizing it I self-medicated. All through my mid teens & 20s, I used various drugs & alcohol, they used me right back. 😑. I tried magic mushrooms & LSD ( not at the same time) probably about

This is an ignorant take. Bad trips exist with any drug, but bad trips on psychedelics are significantly worse because they mess with your perception of reality. Psychedelics can cause and even exacerbate psychosis, and recommending them so readily because they're "more harmless than talk therapy" is blatantly lying to support your personal opinion
@Unclejamsarmy
@Unclejamsarmy Рік тому
@@ausiidnd psychedelics have been very well studied, you are making false claims based on long ago debunked anti drug propaganda and if you’re interested in the truth and not repeating 30 year old myths you will be able to find that you’re wrong very very easily with a few minutes on google. Thus why the FDA is expected to approve psilocybin for mental health treatments in the next few years.

I was depressed for 14 years because of something that happened to me as a kid. It gave me a lot of triggers especially with intimacy. I got antidepressants, these drugs made me nauseous, killed my Sex drive, hard sweeting etc. 2 and a half years ago at my probably lowest point i took somme shrooms with friends of mine. I got very uncomfortable and told everyone i had to go for a walk. I walked for 4 hours and got to talking with myself over everything and everyone in my life. And in the end (even though my issues weren't hone or resolved) i was able to tell myself i like to be and i like to be me. I remember walking to the corn fields with the sun rising over the hill. And just this weight lifted from me. And it continued. I got my life together after that. Job apartment and way more motivation in every area of my life. I tripp once or twice a year now, don't need any meds or anything. These substances save lives or better show you that life is worth living. But still be careful, the dose makes the poison.

As a therapist who is currently getting my PAT certs, thank you. I don't think I have ever seen my field done justice like this in such an easy to digest way. If only we had access to LSD as a treatment option up here in Canada, our best practice currently uses Ketamine which has its benefits and drawbacks.

I wish the research was further ahead. There are so many people who could benefit from this. While the rates of PTSD in veterans are of course awful, there are many non-veterans who still have PTSD from things such as childhood abuse and trauma. I wish I could try it. I’ve heard that even micro-doses can help, which is probably how I’d want to start because I’m a scaredy-cat.
