Wasn‘t that surprising at all. Riccardo struggled with Renault in the first half of 2019, so did Perez at McLaren 2013. Sainz on the other hand smashed it at McLaren after the switch from Renault.

That proves getting first sector right does not guarantee pole, you still have 2 other sectors to complete. So nothing guarantee that Ver, Bot or Sai could have actually make it to the pole. I think Verstapen is the one who spoke best after Quali saying that truth is that there is a red flag, speaking about what could have happened is not relevant
