You regard his response as being "Kind, but also wise" I'm speculating - because you agree with his position. OF COURSE someone you agree with is someone you would regard as Kind, but also wise. The fact is...what he's implicitly suborning is that "the media" should still be accorded license to engage in their "profession" in ways that can be potentially unprofessionally, even inhumanely. There are A LOT of sports reporters...reporters of any stripe, for that matter...who don't do anything to propel the dissemination of sports information in any way that could remotely be regarded as authentically invested in outlaying such information to inform the public. I'm not suggesting that athletes should not have to answer questions posed to them by media types...but some media types are only media types because so much of the public equates behaving like jackals as conducting oneself as a responsible media reporter. The question as to why Osaka withdrew from the tournament is, in such context, almost irrelevant...the fact is that under no circumstance should anyone be compelled to contend with a prodigious faction within the media that trades on exploitative journalism, at the athletes' expense, where the clear agenda is the reporter(s) endeavoring to make their bones...and that happens entirely too frequently.

I totally agree w/your the assessment of the GREAT Rafael Nadal question response. He summed up the fact regarding this matter concerning Osaka's trying 2 reserve her emotional health while under pressure sporting. @ the same time as Rafael so eloquently relayed the sports fans & players do need the reporting of the games via reporters. I understand that Osaka along w/other players do get annoyed when they have reporters that are perhaps racist or looking 2 get under the skin of the players. I believe that is why Osaka is reluctant 2 leave herself vulnerable in their presence. Osaka clearly is a private & shy woman who just wants 2 play the sport w/out the BS!!! Or perhaps the probing of the player's personal business is invasive & that is very disturbing 2 private players' position.

Athletes themselves have millions of follower that they can reach directly. When was the last time you actually read a sports news article? Sports media are shit they are just there to stir up drama and soundbites. Players dont like them, fans dont like them. Tennis is a very specific sport. First of all... they are nice (the players) but I think Tennis gets boring if all are acting the same. But thats another story. Tennis is a Solo-Player game mostly. Its very different than football for example. Where a whole team has to fight. If a tennis player plays bad, he knows it and he loses the match directly. So there is not much room for accusations and debate about a players perfromance, so its much easier for the sportsman to deal with fans and the press. There is simply no moment of lots of contraversions. You dont need to respond to another 10 players why you played bad and you dont need to respond to your trainer or even manager or whatever. Tennis is a very single oriented sport. You are practically alyways your own boss and you only have to responds to yourself. That makes it a lot easier than many other sports, when it comes to deal with the media.. your fans or your managment. For example.. in Tennis the players get their OWN trainers that THEY hire and not vice versa.. where the trainer decides who can play. This all makes it much esier to stay calm and relaxed, thats what I wanted to say.

It's not as if she hasn't been doing interviews, she didn't say she was going to stop doing interviews altogether, all she's asking for is help with whatever she's going through right now and to those of you who criticize her, you're just like that friend who will say 'please man up' depression is for wimps. toughen up and crack on with it. Then if it leads to God forbid a fatality, the whole mental health 'campaign' intensifies again and the cycle begins, except that no one actually puts things learned into practice, it's all bullshit. The Williams sisters have gone through a lot more and have done more for providing visibility to this sport outside of the elite circles than Naomi ever has. The trouble with this generation is people want to make heroes and champions of people prematurely. The amount of press Naomi has gotten since she won a game against Serena isn’t the picture of someone who is “oppressed”. Rafa breathes a heavy sigh when he goes into these press conferences. He's clearly as bored as hell but gets on with it as his duty. He has lost it with the media on occasion but it is rare. The sport must be promoted and sensationalised or it dies, but maybe these conferences could be reduced. After every match is a bit much. Often players have little more to say than already said in the on court interview.
@tanyaghosh22772 роки тому
i agree. A slightly longer on court interview could basically eradicate the need for a press conference at least in the group stage games or whatever. Obviously, QF onwards, you actually want the press conferences to get as much info on the players, their mentality, etc. I think hers is a special case though because she's not dealing with any outright shitty questions or any racist/sexist ones. She's struggling with her OWN anxiety, depression and insecurities. She made the conscious decision to withdraw from RG so that she could really address her issues which is smart of her - not only because she needs to heal - but because, I think she knows that she will have to start doing press interviews since they r too integrated in the sport & financial prospects for players. She needs to overcome her own personal barriers n insecurities and she will be fine.
