Sad follow up: A rescue team was called shortly after the events of this video and when they arrived they cut a giant chunk of the boulder out from around his pinky. After his friends and family pleaded with him relentlessly to go get the Boulder surgically removed from off his pinky, Joel refused to go have the operation done. He said he liked it and that it adds characters and is a nice constant reminder of what he had to go through. Joel now carries a giant 50 pound rock on his pinky with him everywhere he goes. He has to drag it along the floor to move or carry it with him anytime he wants to go anywhere. He likes to hold it in his lap when he’s sitting, even creepily petting it at times and calling it by its new nickname, “Rocky Balboulda”.

interesting detail: Note how Ralphie and his friend switched positions. Ralphie was high up at the beginning and then lower at the end. This indicates that they switched positions.

You guys have great comedic timing. And you’re not afraid of pauses and taking your time, especially when you edit your vids. It’s tempting to ramp up the video by stacking dialogue, but you always let your videos breathe. It’s wonderful. You don’t see that as much these days. Thank you for being you, Joel!

***SPOILER WARNING*** Summary and Critique: The short film "Ralphie, get down there again!" by Joel Haver and Trent Lenkarski is the sequel to the popular short film "Ralphie, get down from there!". In the opening act the viewer is immediatly presented with an intense situation, Ralphie has climbed on a rock. The scriptwriters explore new territory here, because even though the idea of Ralphie being on top of things has already been used in the prequel, this time is different. The rock is much higher and has an overhang to one side, but as the story reveals it also features a terrifying creavas that Ralphie might fall into at any moment on the other side. The stakes are much higher, and the viewer is practically glued to the screen at this point. Ralphie and Trent have a furious discussion over the safety of Ralphies actions and after a long and fierce debate come to the conclusion that it is probably best for Ralphie to get down from the rock. This showcases the development of Ralphies character, as he did not agree with Trent in previous interactions. This is where a major plottwist occurs - Ralphie falls towards the creavas side of the rock while attempting to safely descent. Trent rushes over, but it is already too late at that point. Ralphie is no longer having any fun. What follows is a heartwarming bonding scene between the two characters. Trent is now on the highground and is looking down on Ralphie. Ralphie got badly injured during the fall and is stuck, since his left pinky got burried under a rock. It is not fully revealed to the audience, if the crashing rock is indeed the same one Ralphie just stood upon, or if another rock has interfered. Ralphie realized he only has 128 hours to live and since Trent can't do anything about that he tries to lighten up Ralphies mood, so his last hours won't be in pain. Offscreen he administers strong painkillers to Ralphie (this scene was cut due to budget restrictions, but the plot still stayed in the script) and Ralphie is beginning to halucinate. He distances himself from his character and thinks of himself as a parody character in a parody sequel to a parody. It is hard to tell how long the two characters have been at the cliff, but Ralphie is beginning to have outer body experiences. He can see the irony of the situation, as if he was a 3rd party, reflecting upon it. "This is not a very good ending" are his dying words, then the film ends on a cliffhaenger. Is Trent able to safe Ralphie? Is Trent even real or just an image of a friend produced by Ralphies mind, that always shows up whenever he does stupid shit? Overall the camerawork and GCI used are superior to the prequel, but the runtime of over three minutes can hardly be justified. 4/10
