There is a movie theater near me that pipes the aroma of the cooking popcorn right over the line for the ticket booth. Everyone in line smells fresh popcorn while they wait for tickets.

My grandfather worked at a Sunbeam bread factory. The smell of bread walking through when I was a kid, awesome.

I worked at a grocery store and this is also what we did to our donuts. Though, those marks were somehow already there on ours when they came out of the freezer, before baking them.

Took my father-in-law after he was years deep into dementia and he wondered were he was until he tasted the Original Glazed Krispy Kreme. A huge smile came over his face. He didn’t remember the name but he said, ‘ I remember these. I used to like these!’. Warmed my heart. He had taken at least 9 of his grandchildren regularly to Krispy Kreme throughout the years.

I basically grew up on Daylight’s donut holes. My church(I’m not there anymore) is a rather large one here in Memphis, and they had a standing order of several hundred boxes every Sunday morning. Every department got boxes for each hour of Sunday School or Service. So the choir, orchestra, youth, college, etc etc. Not being a morning person, I usually had a handful at Sunday School, then from Jr High and up I got seconds when I went to play in the orchestra for services. 😂 Probably why I always started falling asleep during the sermon though!

I went to Boston for the first time last year. First thing that stood out to me was how damned many Dunkin Donuts there were. You can't go 100 feet without seeing one. And I hate Dunkin Donuts

Even when they aren't warm, they are multitudes better than the other chains. Shipley's has the best selection and quality.

He mentioned that they tasted better in Texas. Maybe they vary a lot between locations.

When they're fresh and hot they are almost custard like. Unbelievably good. Once they cool off, they're just really overly sweet donuts

The south thinks they have great recipes, but once you get past biscuits and gravy, chicken fried everything and dry rub BBQ 100% of the recipes are simply too sweet. Sweet Tea? disgusting almost rock candy sugar water with so much sugar in it you literally can not dissolve another grain into that quart. Many of us Yankees actually know what tea tastes like because we drink it fresh brewed and without sugar at all. We like Dunkin because you can get a donut with less than 2 ounces of dissolved sugar puked on it, or 20-30 other donuts you can also taste something besides sugar in. You can also get a toasted everything bagel (salt, onion, garlic, sesame seeds and poppy seeds) with a smear of scallion cream cheese at DD to enjoy with a cup of dark roast coffee no sugar extra half and half. Snicker-doodles are disgusting and taste like you are eating a feed bag of sugar with a bottle of Kero syrup dumped in it. Peacan Pie? is simply a disgusting super saturated sugar solution that had time to coagulate like a desert scab. We make chocolate chip cookies and Apple Pie up here instead. Now if you will excuse me I have to head over to a Mom and Pop called Angelo's Pizza to pick up an Antipasto ,an order of deep fried calamari with marinara and hot sauce to dip in, a Large pie with meat ball , sausage, vodka sauce and prosciutto, a large sausage peppers and onions traditional pie, and a 6 pack of cannoli(3 traditional, 3 coco).

I'm from NC as well.. Krispy Kreme does make a good donut, but I'm not a huge fan. However, stick Duck Donuts under my nose, they WILL be extinct. Love me some Duck Donuts.

When I worked in Alabama, we had donuts in the break room. When I worked in DC, we had bagels. But in Dallas we had kolaches. There is a kolache bakery in every low rent strip mall in DFW.

When I lived in Corpus Christi we would stop at S&J bakery . I don't know if the owners were Czech but the Kolaches were great.

If you ever see a Kryspy Kreme with the HOT NOW light on. Stop and get one. You think a regular KK is good? A Hot Now is over the top. It melts in your mouthing cottage candy.

The 2 years Krispy Kreme was here might’ve been the greatest in my life.

In Houston, we saw the same thing Krispy Kreme came and went pretty quickly. Shipley's specialty is cake donuts as he noted how overly moist their donuts are, that's where they shine with maple icing of course. Otherwise, those small mom and pop donut places are best when it comes to non-cake donuts - like a place called 'Sweet Shop' in Greenfield, IN.

Add in one of the Winn Dixie/HEB/ other grocery store cakes. Though I'd LOVE for him to try Paczki (pronounced poonch-key) from the upper Midwest. They're a pre-lent/carnivale treat that's like an over-sized, cream cheese and/or fruit filled donut on CRACK. I can (and did) make my own king cakes when we lived South of Chicago, I haven't been able to find or fry my own Paczki in Texas....

Boy do I miss the cakes my grandma got from McKenzie's Bakery in New Orleans. Cream cheese and strawberry or cherry, so good! Haven't found one with the same dough/ filling ratio and taste in Houston, so I might have to try these places.

Also from Michigan, and around the Detroit area Tim Horton's is the only donut chain left that can still make legitimate crullers since the pandemic. Nobody else seems to be able to get their hands on a certain ingredient needed for that style. And by "legitimate" crullers I mean the kind that have the egg-based batter and the large air bubbles, kind of like eclair batter. I tried Krispy Kreme's "cruller" version once, and it was basically just a cake donut shaped like a tractor tire, so disappointing. And Tim Horton's has really good muffins also.

Moved to the gulf from WNY last year, and I took a journey to the TWO Tim Hortons Locations in the Houston, TX area. Needed my Tim’s fix

I went to Ottawa back in February 2018 as part of a college club/learning experience. The first thing my fellow students and I did after checking in to the hotel was find the nearest Tim Horton's. After 6+ hours on 2 airplanes and going from the sunshine and warmth of Georgia (by comparison) to the snow and cold of Canada, we all wanted coffee and donuts. I remember being taken aback by the numerous types of donuts!

No Hoptown Donuts is way better, Whistle Stop is unbalanced on the to sweet side, even more than Krispy Kream.

I'm not sure about the chocolate donut with filling, but the chocolate filled plain glazed donut is indeed filled with chocolate ICING...not cream. Now that'll give you an extreme sugar rush and a big sugar crash 😂😂😂

The Dunkin' recipe must be really fragile. My mom and pop shop I go to has Donuts that have a decent amount of filling compared to all the chains.

@@ddw1272 I used to adore the peanutbutter cream filled (chocolate iced) donuts and the white cream filled. So, I made sure I put lots of filling in the ones I made.

Oh my goodness! When I worked at Shipley Donuts as a teenager, I was also a finisher. The donuts were made fresh at the store and I hand glazed and decorated them. I also used a tube thingy to inject the fillings into the donuts, and too much pressure made the fillings shoot out the other side of the donuts. We had to eat our mistakes, which was awesome on Day 1, but not as awesome a few days later. 😂 I still love Shipley Donuts so much!

Those are my wife's favorite. My kids love the maple and vanilla frosted ones as well, so we usually get the dozen with all three. Personally I prefer their old fashioned sour cream cake donuts and their chocolate-iced bavarian creme filled ones. Walmart donuts are underrated for sure!

When I was living in Fall River Ma. There were like five Dunkin Donuts all in walking distance. One of which was a former Tim Horton's which failed.
