The Arfons brothers used to do this with F86 engines chained to trees outside their workshops on the jet powered Green Monsters. I got to see two iterations of the Green Monster. It ran at full military power at the starting line, then cut in the afterburner for a big blast thru the quarter mile when they were green lighted. Saw them at Kansas City International Raceway and St. Louis International Raceway about 1970.

yup makes for more realism when building a scale plane .model ... you can have a preheater cart for the engines ... or you can have it use a built in Auxillary Power-up Unit and spool the engines like he did ... saving on your flight battery and it can be all electric to pre-heat and spin up since you can use a glow plug style heater which has the added advantage of actually being able to start the fuel when hot enough ... with a sensor for when the engine has taken over you can then switch the APU to charge and let it sit back for ride

BiC MC you can hear up to 22khz? Either you’re really young or have excellent ears. Most people top out between 18-20khz. Older people even struggle with 16khz. Btw even the cheapest headphones normally are able to reproduce much higher frequencies, some up to 70khz. Especially when they use balanced armature drivers instead dynamic drivers. You’re just not able to hear them. And the frequency graph definitely isn’t flat anymore at these high frequencies, nonetheless they can reproduce them.

Nice build. Whenever you're starting an engine for the first time, keep yourself at 45 degrees, if possible. If the engine blows, shrapnel flies radially, if it breaks the body (it shouldn't, even at max rpm). Also, one hand at the stop button at all times, if shit happens, it happens fast. Your controls location was ideal, actually. Never run a gas engine until dry, it needs some time to cool down at idle. If it doesn't cool down, it's best to keep the engine in slow turn (that's a real gas turbine feature, don't know if it applies here), to avoid thermal bow. Congratulations, running your own gas turbine is very fun!
@rvlifestylelivin
@rvlifestylelivin 2 роки тому
if its a perfect round cylinder like this jet engine at what angle do you stay 45 degrees from LOL its a round object that will will explode in 360 degrees lmfao better to use a barrier!
@homemdosaco2000
@homemdosaco2000 2 роки тому
@@rvlifestylelivin Are you trolling? Consider the shaft axis as reference, the center of the turbine body as origin. Commissioning personel should stay on the line that, starting from the origin, makes 45 degrees with the shaft. If the turbine explodes, shrapnel flies 360 *radially*. Or it flies axially. So you shouldn't be on the side or ends of an operating gas engine.

I work on KC-135s. They are an aerial refueler. Standard rampload at my base is 75,000 pounds of fuel. 13,400 pounds in each wing tank which is where the engines are fed the fuel from. Jets didn’t land with the same amount of fuel everytime but typically after a 5 hour flight you could expect anywhere from 2-4,000 pounds in each wing tank. That can give you an idea. 4,000 pounds of fuel would be roughly 600 gallons and 13,400 pounds would be 2000 gallons so that’s 1400 gallons of fuel per tank in 5 hours.

just think ... an f18 ... has lets say 10,000 gallons of fuel on board ... thats only a few minutes of flight time ... NOT dog fight time either .. just basic high efficiency flight time ... what you saw going into the engine was about comparable ... the trade offs in a jet engine include fuel consumption over thrust as well ... going fast and hauling weight take lots of fuel .. so you make a compromise on how fast you want to use fuel ... with full sized engines they have many settings that can be adjusted for best fuel use at most operating levels ... BUT ... an RC jet doesnt have that ... it has a basic engine set to a moderate compromise of fuel use to useful power ... if you can compress the incoming air more or chill it ... then have a better fuel air mixer ... you would increase the power out of the engine and lower fuel consumption ... BUT at the cost of more weight .. . so if you made thunderbird 2 ... you would need about 5 gallons of fuel just to get 15 minutes of flight time .. with 2 engines ... BUT it would be about 6 feet long ... and not light by any means ;)

What's sound of aliasing
@DavenH
@DavenH 3 роки тому
It's an artifact of a frequency exceeding the Nyquist frequency, which is equal to half the number of samples per second of the recording. You see the same effect when a car's wheel spokes appear to reverse direction in camera footage, as each spoke turns more than enough per frame to appear in the place of another spoke. When the harmonic frequencies of the quickly rotating fans exceed the Nyquist frequency, you can hear the aliasing artifact, which is a new frequency with a pitch "reflected" off the top end of the frequency spectrum, so it appears to be descending in pitch even as the RPM increases.
