Ye like Sam and then rate his intellect higher than it stands on its own merit. He has a history of saying things under no duress to express himself. Here is a very fair and honest paraphrasing of his exact words from a friendly enough interview article. Giving himself a choice via a "magic wand" he'd rid the world of religion over rape. These are his opinions and preferences.

Don't try to explain or defend it he dug his own hole. Sam was just a cocky deranged guy still talking down from an ivory throne after being knocked off multiple times. "Everyone else is confused" after clearly deranged statements. His comeback attitude: "Everyone else is confused". Instead of any humility or self reflection... As a European then not familiar with Sam, this was very clear for anyone, not just people holding in resentment.

Most on the the Center, the Right & the Internet gave companies, like Bud Light, people like Sam Harris the benefit of the doubt & separated the art from the artist & years. All the while people like James Lindsey were trying to warn everyone: "This is not a small group of individuals., or some compartmentalized belief. This is a Totalitarian Religious Cult, that fully infects mind, body & soul. Once infected, there little hope for people who adhere to this Cults ideology. Once an organization is infected, there is little hope for that organization." People are now are just starting to understanding & fight back.

Konstantin, I really do enjoy your perspective on a lot of these issues, but I often feel you are unwilling to admit, or see, the dangers the right poses. And you say that Sam overestimated the dangers of Trump. Seeing as how you grew up in a communist society, do you not view the attempted stealing of an election in a democratic nation worthy of the fear that Sam has expressed. This absolutely perplexes me. Most of us left of center knew exactly what he would do if he lost, as he had shown time and time again his lack of respect for our democratic norms and decency in general.Trump was a existential risk to the nation. This threat could not have been overestimated.

Very good discussion so far. Konstantin, I enjoyed how you disagreed with Chris, but were completely civil about it and in no way denigrated him. It's refreshing to see this sort of discourse. I love Chris, but I think he's misinterpreted where the Mulvaney decision came from as this was a leading marketing executive, not a low level intern. And it was a cumulation of dominos as mentioned. But it's also Dylan Mulvaney, who is a very polarizing individual for the perceptions of her being fake. A perfect storm, indeed.

Still the #2 selling beer in the US. Recover from what?
@rg7535
@rg7535 6 місяців тому
@@toddtheisen8386I see you have no experience in large businesses. Let me explain. A company like Budweiser doesn’t just choose how much beer they make. They start with, say, enough demand to produce 1,000 cans a month for a profit of $1,000 when their factory has a max production capacity of 1,200 cans/month. If demand keeps increasing and they keep producing more to meet it, they’ll soon reach their capacity. At that point, they will need to open a new factory, but in order to do that, you need to invest hundreds of millions, if not billions of dollars. Then, let’s say you produce now 2,000 cans/month, but then something happens and you lose half of your sales. At that point, just shutting down that factory which you no longer need isn’t enough, because you have all the money you invested to build it, plus storage, maintenance, employees, utilities and all the cost of that other factory you still need to pay for. So now, you sell the same 1,000 cans a month, but instead of making a 1,000 profit, you lose 500/month and you have a massive debt you need to pay. This is why they probably won’t make it out of it, and if they do, it’s only because they’re owned by a gigantic company that can afford to take the hit for enough time to allow them to recover. This will cost years of profit for their owner, which owns several other huge companies, that’s how bad it was. If they were an individual company, they would’ve already shut down.

But because Dylan Mulvaney's core audience is apparently kids and early teens, personally I would think it's quite immoral thing to do to try to affect kids when marketing alcohol or similarly harmful products. I also drink alcohol, so I have very little ideological problems with people enjoying drinks once in a while, I just say keep kids far a way from that as possible. Mulvaney's audience are mostly people who are not even allowed to even buy a drink in several years, so especially if you try to hire people whose audience consist mainly of literal kids, then starting point is not great even if she had not said anything at all.

Also it was found out later on that this was to be a major push using Dylan as a face for the beer. I just find it odd that they lean into politics (and always on the left) when they know for a fact that you will alienate approximately 50% of people who are your potential customers.

Truly. This is why society has largely lost its way- and even the philosophers have fallen victim- there’s no ability for anyone to discuss, consider or even listen to another possible view without declaring feelings hurt, triggers pushed, and hurling the most obscene accusations at someone simply because they dare to question the salience of an insufferable position that defies logic but doing so in the most congenial, respectful manner. As an example- question the morality of removing reproductive abilities on a 14yo and you’re automatically labeled all kinds of ists and ics before you can utter a portion of a rational argument.

One is an individual choosing not to engage in a financial transaction with an entity (boycott), the other is a group of people making sure the entity cannot engage in ANY financial transactions (removed from payment services, fired, etc.). Therefore, criticisms of the later are FAR more valid than criticisms of the former as cancellation is authoritarian.

You are basically changing one variable while locking the other - assuming people would respond the same way to a decease with a noticeably higher mortality rate. On top of that, there is a delay between a decease appearing and new vaccines being developed, tested, and shipped to the population, so it's not like everyone needs to make a decision the next day. With proposed mortality rate, the biggest nowadays skeptic won't be able wait to get vaccinated. Concerning the principle of "You can't judge someone on 1 thing they say". That is a good principle. I think in terms of the Bud Light cancellation it was a combination of the sense that it's not just "1 person", but global corporations all pushing in a direction the majority of Americans don't want the country to go in (regardless of what specific view anyone has on the Trans debate). It also came with the now typical non-recognition, followed by non-apology, followed by ultra-American commercials as a cheap way to placate the public back into buying their beer and forgetting everything. The problem is that anyone that's payed any attention has seen this pattern unfold in other places over the past 15 years or so. Another factor is the recognition that people we don't vote for are having more direct control in our personal lives. Bud Light was the one vector that people could control something more easily (not buy their product) vs. the amount of control they had on potentially losing their job if they didn't get vaccinated, discovering ESG scores and realizing their own 401k accounts are being used against them, Being forced to attend DEI seminars and being told every way they think is wrong, etc. They don't seem connected on the surface, but they all stem from the distain of unelected elites attempting to control your life. People refer to the 2016 Trump victory as "a middle finger to the American politics", Bud Light was a middle finger to elites.

There's a funny quote from one Asmongold, something like "looking for hipocrisy is the terminally online people's porn, but ultimately everyone is hypocritical whenever it suits them". I find that the mere presence of conflicting views or claims in a single person is no cause for criticism, because often the person isn't even aware of the contradition between them. It's much more useful to look at people's reaction when you ask them about it in good faith.

Williamson is pushing such a bad line on Mulvaney. Thankfully Kisin kicks ass by the end. Their protracted defense of Sam Harris is preposterous though. Sam very obviously meant what he said, in context, as that has been the major text of his OCD for 6 years now. Kisin struck a little bit at Harris by saying "If I shared his view of Trump..." but that very adroitly elided just how insane Harris has become on the subject to other minds. I'll grant Kisin has tactical reasons to not go further, but it's obvious Sam is psychotic.

Multi-million-dollar international corporations pushing mental disorders, disorders which can result in genital mutilation and literal castration of children in the US, is not really in the same universe as understanding that people make mistakes. I am really concerned at the number of prominent public people who seem to claim "all ideas are equally valid and need to be treated with equal respect". We can agree sexual exploitation of children is deeply immoral and act accordingly. Lines do need to be drawn somewhere for any social order to exist.

Even in this hypothetical 40% killrate covid scenario, I still don’t see the logic or justification for forced vaccinations. People who wish to protect themselves can go get the vax, and people who would rather risk it can choose not to. I’d even say the people who are most afraid and really want a vax would benefit if vaccination was not mandated, because that means their own chances of getting a jab are higher since there’s less competition.

Chris is wrong about the Bud Light scandal. Far from a single incident, the boycott was a reaction to an issue that has been ongoing for years. Bud Light is far from the first, and the reaction to that movement is becoming stronger as an increasing number of life aspects are taken over by it. I was surprised by the lack of reaction to the Miller ad. The claim of the ad is that somehow the ads produced in the past by Miller itself and advertising companies are filled with unacceptable content and that is entirely the fault of people who had nothing to do with the production of those ads in the first place. It's an insidious claim and it deserved far more backlash.

I don't think Sam Harris was "canceled" by the right. He's still doing fine for himself. For many on the right who actually respected him, Sam used to be someone who was left wing, but still reasonable enough to engage with. I think the Triggernometry interview was simply the last straw. For a long time during the Trump and Covid era there were clear signs of his derangement. That interview was unfortunately the final definitive proof of it.

@@goodvibes-gy3jn that clip is as bad as it sounds, after having watched the entire interview myself. There is no greater context that needs to be established, it's Sam's literal take on the state of US politics, and if anything, the interview in a broader context makes him out to be even more deluded than the clip itself. He openly admits that collusion by big tech to interfere with elections is *better* than having Trump win honestly. That is extremely damning, and goes against so many of his own ethical principles that it's hard to take him seriously any more.

I went and watched it again for clarity. He states that in his view the Hunter Biden laptop story was going to ruin Biden's presidency opportunity (and rightly so because that laptop contains details of influence peddling that in all cases *should* ruin someone's political career), and then goes on to say, that if that story got the traction it could have, and I quote: 'We'd have four more years of Trump.' He does go on to say 'Yes it's bad that they can't be honest.' but then immediately doubles back again, saying 'I don't care what's on Hunter Biden's laptop.' which yet again shows his inability to recognise the weight of what information was present there. The story isn't politically irrelevant the way Sam tries to justify here. It's very, *very* relevant to Joe's capacity to be a leader. His own son was using the Biden name, and Joe himself, to influence peddle. And this is why I don't believe this is a good faith position, he's simply employing a strawman to try to get one past the keeper.

Furthermore, I listened to another Sam interview where he discussed quitting Twitter after that clip went viral and he was straight up gaslighting the audience about what he said.
