It's important to realize that all three of them are also the authors of the series. A lot of jokes are pre-written (Which is not a bad thing, very few people are always funny on the spot), and they will have discussions about them and which jokes are OK to make, especially about each other. So if there was anything that Hammond did not to go on air, he would have been able to object to it. That being said, both Jeremy and James were pretty worried about him after the crash and were affected by it, too, so I don't think they would have liked to really joke about it while it was still fresh on everyones minds. Jeremy even wrote a funny text message to Richards wife every day while Richard was in hospital, to keep her spirits up.

@@TetraDax Again, this are 3 relatable idiots who make you appreciate the fact that you also like to be idiots with your friends and jokes about stuffs once it pass. I had the same type of conversation with a friend about games and tech and does this sort of jokes about things we did long ago too (amost in the same manner Clarkson and May speak off. While His brother Reminds me to Hammond). In a way, they know what to talk and what to not talk about as well. Even some of their jokes, guests and skit are painful to watch in light of some events (like the time Amber Herd went there. Now day she is seen as a total bitch due what she does to Johnny Deep. Or how they joke about Hammond crashing due his tend to risk a lot before that happen).

Sorry to rain on your little parade, but I’d just like to point out that the bit where Jeremy goes “‘You have a blowout on the motorway..’ one for you here Hammond.” That was 3 episodes/weeks after they promised “Never again”. It would’ve been 2 but one episode was the American Driving Holiday Special

From my understanding, most of the crash-related jokes are planned in advance and run past Hammond before filming, to make sure he's okay with them. That was definitely their off-camera agreement on Top Gear, and I doubt they would've changed that for TGT.

Yeah, every time I see Hammond's Rimac or Vampire dragster crash, I'm always left wondering, "How the hell is this man still alive???"

@@JetFalcon710 I remember reading in an article about the dragster crash that when it rolled, Hammond's head came less than an inch away from the ground under the roll bar. If he had been even an inch taller, he wouldn't be here at all.
