Have you been to a Sephora lately? Well, if you answered yes, you’ve likely noticed one major difference . . . say, the mini-shoppers. They've got the internet up in flames. What is going on?

It's definitely both. Parents need to say no to their kids and keep kids off of the internet. Kids are extremely easy to influence. My five year old thinks that every game that she sees with people playing and having fun will be fun for her, too. I'm trying to teach her the difference between the people having fun and her likelihood of having fun with the same game.

It's definitely both. Pre-internet you were only familiar with what was popular in your own social bubble, you bought the products available in your local stores and that was it. There was toxic beauty standards before but everything exploded with social media. This is were parenting should come in, and many parents fail at that bc it's just so much more convenient to let tiktok and co. raise your kid right? Edit: fixed a typo

All of them I use because they are recommended for my skin condition. I still watch SpongeBob and go to Claires. The parents of sephora kids do not help the situation either. The parents just let their kids buy the luxury items that most adults can barely afford. I think sephora shouldn't have testers because of the potential bacteria build up. Millennials are the first generation to have to navigate raising their kids in a world where the internet and social media are fully developed with no real barriers to entry. My mall created a rule that anyone 16 and under must be accompanied by an adult at all times. Younger kids were being dropped off at the mall to run around like it was a playground. They were getting into trouble, messing up displays, and, even if they were behaving, it wasn't safe for them to be alone. The amount of teens who are causing fights was also increasing. The rule has been in place for a few years and it's completely improved the shopping experience for the better. Unfortunately, the amount of people at the mall has went down, but the overall atmosphere has gotten better. I haven't seen this behavior at my local Ulta's but I attribute that to the age restrictions.

Unattended kids have always been this way. I worked in a craft store and there wasn't a day that went by where I wasn't chasing pre teens out of the paint aisle because they were "testing" the spray paint on our shelves and using the paint pens on any flat surface they could find. They were in such bad shape I had to bear the brunt of complaints from older customers who were like "you need to take better care of your store. this is a disgrace!". The worst ones were when mom or dad was 10 feet away and was ignoring the behavior and would get miffed at me for asking their kid to "please not draw all over our store". Drove me nuts. Also when I was that age Bath and Body works skincare and cosmetics (because they sold cosmetics WAYYY back in the 90's and they were amazing!) were all the rage, along with UD and Clinique and all pretty pricy. And teen people, which most of us girls had a subscription to due to school magazine drives, always had sections on the latest cosmetics and clothing trends that we all bought in to at the time. So again this isn't a new phenomenon, just more people who don't have kids, or work retail are seeing it because of social media.

This is what happens when we have a generation of children who are chronically online because their parents are chronically online. We can’t expect these kids to know how to function outside of social media If their parents never learned either. that is exactly why we have this problem in the first place.
