The naming scheme is misleading. Consumers may think they are getting an actual Gen 3 or something better. They should have called it a "Snapdragon 8 Gen 2s".

It is basically SD8G2 design but with the newer cores like X4 instead of X3, A720 instead of A710 and A715 and A520 instead of A520. Even the clock speeds are the same. Again 4nm like the Gen 2 so this chip must be using slightly lower power given that clock speeds are the same and the improvements in CPU performance as well as efficiency should be whatever ARM says their newer CPU core designs are.

My only query is at 4:27 in that the SD 8s 3 can only do 4K 60fps HDR when my Xperia 1 V can do 4k HDR120fps from all 3 cameras

I was genuinely excited to see the next Poco F6 using this chip but considering your review I'm not interested at all now. I wonder how many people are going to make the mistake thinking this is actually an 8 gen 3? Thanks for the information

I wonder why this exists. Will no flagship OEM use it, as it is below the current SD8G3? It may be cheaper, and therefore, next year, when some OEMs usually use the SD8G3, this will replace that expensive chip, and the SD8G3 will be discontinued. I suppose time will tell...

Adreno 735 inside the 8sGen 3 is an overclocked version of the Adreno 730 inside the Snapdragon 8+Gen1 it is not a downgrade of the adreno 740 in the Snapdragon 8Gen2 Power efficiency is way lower and peak performance is nowhere near Adreno 740 Not to mention the peak GPU frequently is very explosive at 1100 Mhz the max power draw is insane

8s Gen 3 should be name as 7 Gen 3 or 7 Gen 3+. The hardware difference is just too much.

Xiaomi released the Xiaomi Civi 4 pro with this SOC a few days ago. Q: When is the hourglass is going to turn and people will start asking for less neural engine capabilities rather than more as the idiotic trend is going nowadays? 🤔 Isn't it weird that AI chips are being integrated in everything. If i bring the matter of how expensive they are to make a moron will say: "oh but its costs declines' when being mass produced blah blah blah 🤡" When I see someone happy with how AI is running on every device that we buy and power I know straight away that he's either knows so little, or knows a lot but complicit. This should have been the next 7 series, not 8s. This is a bad marketing and naming scheme. I see a lawsuit in the near future over them saying their same same but different, but they are actually entirely different.

Qualcomm naming convention is getting worse day by day, they could easily go by 8Gen3 Lite but no, looks like they are gonna mess up with everyone's braincells. Edit: The Adreno version for SD8sG3 is Adreno 735, which is slightly weaker version of SD8G2's Adreno 740. (Source: Gadget Versus)
