The husband is a hero. He escaped the fire only to go back in to save his dogs and try to save his wife. I hope he at least knew his dogs survived and he did the best he could to save his wife. Truly a heroic effort and admirable dedication to those he loved.

So evil. Setting a fire in a house where you know two people....YOUR PARENTS...are sleeping, and that they will most likely die, well that's one thing. Bad enough. Ensuring the death and maximum damage by holding the door knob so his step dad would SUFFOCATE to death in the fire...while he fights to escape...that's pure evil.

Alan was able to name his killer. He not only survived long enough to attempt to save his wife, to save his dogs, but also to tell the world who did this to him and his family. That is something that victims in these cases rarely get a chance to do. Alan really is a hero. He put his own pain and safety aside for his family. I hope he had peace when he left this world, because he deserved that. He did all that he could and then some. ❤❤❤

I live in a small village where everyone knows everyone and the only shit thing to happen that I can think of was when someone stole some garden tools like 5 years ago. Dude jumped out a window dropping 10 feet, able to knock on his neighbours door and tell her that his stepson did it, all while with burns. Burns bad enough to kill him hours later. Wtf. That's actually crazy. Even for a young, fit dude. Adrenaline must've really kicked in for him. I swear even most younger guys wouldn't be able to fight through that. When he said 3rd degree burns over 95% of his body, I thought it was an exaggeration. Clearly, it wasn't if he ended up dying to his injuries. That's actually so sad. He did all that, trying to save his wife and dogs, and doesn't survive in the end. That's messed up.

With each case i've become more and more aware of how many people are traumatized by these crimes, other than the murdered people. Like this one. The neighbor who had a burnt, bleeding man show up on their porch, the grandkids left without grandparents, the wife who will find out she practically is living with a stranger and is in debt. Other family and friends. Not to mention the fireman, cops and whomever else had to witness the mother being burnt to death or the medical staff who did the treatment of the burnt man. Cops and attorneys that have to keep reviewing the horrible photographs. Etc. It's just so much bigger than the crime itself.😢

I've never suffered burns from fire quite like that, but I have suffered extremely bad sunburn and a friend/coworker of mine had a particularly nasty fire incident that left him with skin grafts. I would not wish either of those on anybody. In my case, I got the sunburn from hanging out at a beach all day. I had been applying sunscreen throughout the day, but it apparently sucked in water because my legs got cooked from the knees down. I could barely walk by the time I was headed home in the early evening. I literally could not wear pants or shoes for over a week, I had to find my highest cut shorts and a set of slide sandals... and even then I needed to pad the tops of my feet with gauze before I could put the sandals on. I remember my boss giving me shit about calling out of work after that, and I had my buddy drive me down to the store and showed him my legs. He was like "nah, you're good, sorry I doubted you". I'm a fair skinned white guy, there was a clearly marked line between where my shorts covered my upper legs and my lower red lobster legs, skin peeling off in sheets. Fun times. My coworker buddy on the other hand, well he got it bad. There was some bonfire party he was at, he got too fucked up and smashed his face on this toilet that was there for whatever reason. Then he literally fell into the actual fire and had to get dragged out. He was out for awhile, I remember him having to get his entire arm grafted with new skin and he wore a compression sleeve for like a year afterwards. Thankfully he made a full recovery but man...

Sociopath. I have a family member like that, nobody talks to them anymore because even though they haven't actually done something like this, nobody is comfortable pretending they wouldn't if the reward was tempting enough. All the pettiness and ego of an adult with the selfish impulsivity of a 3 yr old and the morality of a shark. Just like this guy... because he couldn't bear to resist overspending and didn't want to admit how bad he'd messed up because people would be mad. Oh, the "horror". He might get scolded. Or divorced and disowned. Someone might even yell, or make him work more and pay it back. My goodness, such "cruelty". So compared to that, his mom and step-dad dying in agony from one of the worst ways to go was an okay substitute? What a piece of crap. He's lucky he's Canadian or he would've probably been put to death in the US.

As a part time cane user (bad in the morning, better in the evening)... There's two ways to use a cane and he's doing neither lol. I'm a same-side holder and a sometimes user and even I can see that it's goofy at best. I know a lot of folks have invisible problems. Mine are a lot of the time, and I actively take steps to hide them. His is a weird blend of trying to make it obvious, and doing it wrong lolololol The cane is either part of your second leg, or your third leg. But there is no reason in hell your dumpy leg on the crap side of your body ever hits the ground before that cane does. No one ever rotates off the comfy half of themselves before the stick is down for the uncomfy half.
