Hey Adrian, another great video. Love the long detailed tracking shots of ship 28. I was wondering if you guys could make a video by editing and cutting footage from multiple boosters and ships over time to show the evolution of boosters and ships. Starting from the aft section using the high res zoomed in shots starting from B4 would be nice. More importantly, it would be great for newcomers to your channel. A lot of my collegues are now getting interested but don't know where to start. Reading wikipedia is not their cup of tea! These kind of videos (one for booster and one for ship) would help a lot for us regular viewers to brush up our ship mania. One last thing you could also add is to explain each dent and protrudings on the body of ship and boosters. You guys often do these on streams but it would be great to see it compiled it in one or two or three videos.❤

@ale131296
@ale131296 2 місяці тому
They have never used "IFT" in an official capacity. FCC docs by SpaceX for example use either Starship Flight Test or Starship Flight #. It's why I don't like using IFT myself personally and I've sort of explained it a few times during some livestreams that when SpaceX refers to "integrated flight test" what they mean by that is not an official name but just saying that it is a full stack flight of Starship. It sounds more "formal" to just say "integrated" than "full stack" or some similar expression. The way we often get to know the "official" names of the missions is by how they're displayed on the website which always has in big letters the name of the mission. In the case of Starship it also said like on the FCC docs something like "Starship Flight Test" or "Starship Flight #" and such. Furthermore, even with Starlink missions, when all of them just say "Starlink Mission" you can still get to know the official name of that Starlink mission because the website URL will have at the end "sl-6-39" for example which means the page is for Starlink Group 6-39. For Starship's first flight the URL said "starship-flight-test" and for the second flight it said "starship-flight-2" so another indication that that's what they formally use.

Just FYI, the way these FAA investigations work is: SpaceX figures out what went wrong and tells the FAA what went wrong and what they will need to do to fix it. Then the FAA says “You have these things that you have to fix and this is what you need to do to fix them. So SpaceX fixes the problems and tells the FAA. Then the FAA says that since their investigation revealed these problem and you fixed them then our investigation is complete!

Great review of OFT-2 and status update for OFT-3. I really enjoyed the side-by-side of OFT-2 launch from NASA and NSF, but was surprised so much was redacted by NASA. I thought more was visible on some of NASA's released video. Maybe the other engines on the booster were experiencing similar filter problems and shutdown before there was a catastrophic failure like the engine that caused the explosion?

I still maintain that NASA should divest itself from launches and focus on what they do best: create missions and equipment to fulfill those missions. Let launches be the concern of private companies. NASA could then acquire launch licensing from the FAA and streamline the process for todays revived, fast-paced space program.
@anthonylosego

When they say better thrust vector modeling it makes me think they didn't take into account what the props were doing with when they applied thrust no matter the vector. Meaning they could have slowed down the forceful flip to allow less slosh and less impact. Essentially, ease into a flip rather than jam on the engines and go. Might even pause ship engines a tad longer to prevent forces on the booster. Just a tad later on the ground level engines on ship might be less force on the booster, again reducing slosh.
@williegillie5712
@williegillie5712 2 місяці тому
Starship has thrust vectoring jets. They help steer it out of the way of the second stage plume. They have videos of the inside of the tank so I’m sure they will make the appropriate changes. In a way it was good that it happened then and not with astronauts aboard.

I have a couple basic questions which have probably been addressed at some point though I'm not aware of any. What is the difference between the Falcon 9 booster routinely doing a flip and transitioning to the boost back without difficulty and the starship booster doing the same maneuver? Is it the larger size vehicle or the different fuel that makes the process more complicated? Or is it something else entirely? Why is slosh a problem for the Starship booster but not the Falcon 9 booster? Thanks for any input you can provide.
@agsystems8220
@agsystems8220 2 місяці тому
How many boosters do you think they lost before getting falcon 9 to the point of even attempting a landing? This is not harder, but it is not easier either. Falcon 9 didn't have the same expectation, so we simply did not notice when their attempts to stop the boosters crashing didn't work. It was simply what boosters did!
@andrii_harashchak
@andrii_harashchak 2 місяці тому
This is a completely new vehicle. It has different fuel, build from different materials, has completely different design and engines. All these things require a lot of work to make them functioning properly. It is something similar to the falcon 9 development process, even they already have a lot of experience and knowledge
@thomashayden804
@thomashayden804 2 місяці тому
The big part is hot staging, where the ship ends up pushing the booster backwards while it's still firing a few engines. Then it goes right into the flip and lights the other engines notably faster than Falcon 9 does. Basically they've taken the process and ramped it up big time

Any tank fluid hauler from ships to trucks to aircraft know that you need baffles to limit fluid slosh and stop your cargo from shifting. Shifting fluids will also lead to air in the intakes for the engines resulting in a stall and subsequent explosion. These have all been mentioned in SpaceX and FAA releases since flight 2.
@ale131296
@ale131296 2 місяці тому
So far the only mention of sloshing is on that letter, nothing else from SpaceX or the FAA other than that. It is precisely why we point it out on the video as it's the first time it is mentioned in an official matter.
