You do fantastic work that is undoubtably possible because of years of knowledge that allows you to collect your own observations to apply those skills. the quality of footage from your backyard is stunning. seeing the amount of salamander and frog eggs in a simple small forest pond is baffling. i share your dream to one day create a wildlife haven myself. absolutely documentary quality film you could say, all from your backyard... just wow

I can't believe I watched one HOUR of this video. I'm not a bird watcher but I am a lover of wildlife. I just bought 158 acres in the mountains of West Virginia. I love how you put this video together and of course loved watching the wild life. I think I will do that on my channel: Retired Dream Life. Thanks for such a great video! Absolutely incredible! Your cinematography and storytelling are top notch and you have quite a treasure there. I have to tell you that I started caring for my Mom full time a year ago because of her progressing Dementia. Not many things hold her attention these days. I put your video on the TV and she was enthralled. She would not stop talking about how much she loved the animals and the birds. One hour of pure joy for her and I enjoyed watching her. Thank you for sharing your wildlife and home with us.

I'm 63 years old with a lifelong passion for ecology, and a father who can identify every bird by song. But for me, they might as well be varieties of mice. (Maybe I was, er, put off.) That said, watching this I am now beginning to understand why someone might be so fascinated (partly because all these birds are completely new to me, from the UK!) and am looking forward to learning more about how they fit into your own local patch. Hats off to you sir, this is a remarkable project and I'm so looking forward to see how you progress and what changes you make over the coming years. Really quite envious. Good on you. Edit: I cannot believe the sheer variety of species you've been able to capture. Makes me very happy. As must you be. 109 birds alone... We have absolutely nothing like the potential that you do, just a few urban foxes and the occasional badger. UK is a sadly a bit lost for wildlife and ecology in general. Don't mention the rivers.

I recently moved from suburbia to a quiet little valley in central NY State. I have 7 acres and i'm surrounded by parcels that are as big and bigger. I'm on a similar journey of discovery. My first autumn moving in I was dismayed by the quiet songless and scanty bird population. I had three crows, some chickadees and a few titmice. Winter came and i saw deer, the tracks of a fisher and a visit by 12 wild turkeys. The highlight was seeing a bald eagle eat a fish from the creek. Then spring happened. I had started feeding in the winter and now had sightings of so many types of birds i had to keep a book by the window just to keep up. I saw foxes, a bear, many deer, some coyote, red squirrels, grey squirrels and chipmunks and of course skunks, woodchucks and many salamanders, snakes, frogs, toads. All told my mixed wooded and overgrown rather than overmown meadow is filled with life, color, and endless interest. I'm a still photographer, but seeing your videos has me thinking i need to learn some new tricks. Thank you for inspiring me to be more of a steward and nurturer of this slice of paradise.

Planet Wild just put out a video on how to resolve the issue with the uniform tree planting. Several of the trees are cut down and allowed to stay where they fall. This opens up the forest light and the fallen trees attract new life. Great video.

This documentary is absolutely incredible. My family has some land on rural France and videos like this motivate me to give more attention to the wildlife that we share the land with. I hope you will make more videos showing and explaining the ecology of your homestead

i have my own nature sighting news !! About 17 years ago some river otters were released into my area to bring up population numbers, and I saw one for the first time in the wild about a week ago near the river !! Turns out they went from endangered to least concern over the past two decades in my state, and this year especially people have been seeing them a lot

That's so nice to hear, congrats on the sighting! Keep your eyes peeled during the late Winter/eearly Spring, especially. Sometimes young otters will venture into weird places as they separate from the adults and try to find a territory of their own.

This is one of my favourite channels, hands down. I'm in Montréal and I often feel a bit stuck here in the city and not as close to nature as I would like. Fortunately we live fairly close to a large nature park, but it's also very popular, so on any given day there are lots of people moving through it, often just walking between home and work. It's certainly better than being in an asphalt desert, but it doesn't provide the kind of quiet nature walk I really enjoy, with long stretches where I don't see anyone except birds and animals. So your videos are very welcome to watch, even if they also make me acutely aware of what I'm missing! Mille mercis et bonnes fêtes!

Merci! Growing up in the West Island, I could definitely relate to that feeling. That's one of the main reasons I really started to enjoy the winter. Way less people walking around, and if I went to the lesser known parks, I sometimes wouldn't see anyone the whole day. I always enjoyed the quietness!

I’m not sure if this is a native tree. We have a hawthorn tree. The berries are totally ignored until January, and then it’s a big hit with the birds! I liken it to ice wine! We have service berry bushes for spring too, as well as a peach tree that was supposed to be ornamental, and isn’t. It’s a tiny suburban lot, but we try to support the wildlife as best we can.

I’ve always loved nature but with living in the city it’s so easy to just keep going about your life and forget just how beautiful our earth can be. Stefano, this is amazing! And it makes me want to find a way to move out of the city and maintain a piece of my own land.

just wanted to share: last month, my family and i were out and, while we were driving, i was just looking out the window. i spotted a few great blue herons here and there and got pretty happy since they’re actually one of my all-time favorite species of birds. (i’m not a bird expert but i always recognize these guys when i see them cause they’d show up once in a while around a pond i would go to when i was younger.) a few minutes later, i see a clearing with an ENORMOUS gathering of great blue herons and Canadian geese. there were easily a hundred of each species, maybe more, and i was in absolute awe cause i had never seen so many creatures sitting in one spot- it felt like something straight out of a wildlife documentary. i figured they were migrating and stopping there for a break and i felt so blessed to be able to witness something so amazing with my own eyes. watching your videos always reminds me of beautiful moments like that that exist in the real world. i enjoy the narration and the gentle pacing + thoughtful explanation of everything that goes into maintaining the property. it’s so educational, informative, entertaining, and interesting every single time. i always look forward to the next video 👍

This is absolutely spectacular. I wanted to wait until the end to leave my comment but i just cannot! This film is....beautiful. so far my favorite moments have been when you pulled the fly larvae out of the pond and the chickadee landed on your hand looking for food and then the fox kits living in your shed. I just love that the parents know their babies are safe on your property close to your house. Im sure ill have more comments before the end as im only just half way through. I just love it, beautiful cinematography, music and subjects

I love the quiet humor - shout out to basement water feature and dandelion mowing machine. My goal is to one day know exactly what I'm looking at when you share those videos of animals, plants, insects with the music playing and no voice over to id. I can't wait to see what the berry/ fruit patch has to offer. This was the best "end of year" thng to 2023. I was very overwhelmed by the holidays that i basically sat this year out. This was therapeutic to say the least. Really helps me love the holidays again because holidays should really signifying the seasons changing and not what gifts to get who and what party is happening where. Thank you as always!

as someone with a terrible memory who had forgotten to keep up with this channel for the entire year, this long-form recap video was exactly what I needed. beautiful photography and such a stunning place to live! some of these animals you filmed, I'd never even heard of before, since I'm in the uk. can't wait to learn more about this little patch of heaven you're exploring. I was even more excited when you shared fungi too!! I love mushrooms and don't often get to see ones from other countries in their natural environment. the reds and browns were awesome against every background, but I especially liked the large white ones you recorded - funnels maybe? I would love to see more of that next year, you recorded some pretty substantial fairy rings and clearly established patches of mycelium which will definitely show up again and maybe even promote more fungal activity. it makes me so happy to see such a healthy mycelial network, and better yet, from mushrooms and other organisms that I don't immediately recognise!! wonderful stuff. great video! thank you so much for sharing.

I know I already commented but seeing as how it's New Year's Eve I wanted to come back and say I managed to identify 51 different birds this year and got out into all kinds of different parks and wildlife areas this year and it was great. :)

This is beautiful and mesmerizing. It's like we as humans should have learned to live on this earth - with respect to the wild life and fauna and providing it with the best chance to thrive unobtrusively. Thank you for filming your progress at this slice of heaven you have there! :)

Those pine trees provide food, shelter and nesting for birds and mammals. What looks barren to us has a lot going on - warblers nest at the top where you can't see them, not to mention woodpeckers who prefer pines because of its soft wood and sap. The seeds, insects and bark provide food for everything from birds to bears and the pine floor provides nesting for mammals. Don't make the mistake we did by taking them out at our first house. We not only lost several bird species but the owls were gone despite the fact their were other mature trees. Btw, this is the best video you have created! It exceeds any nature programming out there because you make it so relatable and truly have a heart for the well - being of the wildlife!

What a stunning property. The autumn colours are glorious. Your little chickadee is just like a robin I used to have when I had my horses. I used to have to carry meal worms in my pocket for him, and he'd be sat on my barrow when I was mucking out, or the haynets when my Son was trying to fill them. I miss him a lot. I hope you'll be posting more content.

310 I watched a video from England yesterday in which they pulled down a bunch of random trees in a plantation like that and just left them; to replicate natural storm conditions in which the forest might be damaged, much like a fire. As the trees rot they support many different kinds of life and are gradually taken over by wild forest again, or at least a mix, but without the bare forest floor. Edit the snow bunting bit made me feel more than a little jealous, you've really done a wonderful job with this project, much love :)
