Man we have a nice one for you today. I am not used to bringing you cars that still have floor pans and nice interior but this one has it all. This 82 Mercury Zephyr GS Z7 was top of the line when it was bought new. It was owned by the people we got it from for 20 years and when the ladies husband died the car just got parked. It has a 3.3 liter 200 cubic inch inline six that is basically a continuation of the Falcon inline six, that went on to become that Barra inline 6 in Australia. It has a 3 speed automatic transmission thats probably a C3, and a 7.5 rear axle. Can we get this time capsule running and driving again with help from the goats? Let's find out.
We really appreciate www.cokertire.com for helping us out with the casings

Had a black 78 Futura back in the 80s. That inline 6 was one of the most rock solid reliable engines ever. Never ever left me stranded. A/C was always ice cold, too. They don't make cars like that anymore. A reliable car that don't break the piggy bank. Nice find on the Zephyr.
@dave1135
@dave1135 Рік тому
19:56 ford had that adapter for the distributor because like many car manufacturers, was still using a lot of castings from the old days. The distributor was basically a modified point distributor set up with the electronic pickup and reluctor. Ford found, when using the higher voltage dura spark 2 ignition coil, it would arc between towers, so a larger distributor cap was made, so a adaptor was required. The dura spark 2 would trigger when power is applied, this was a result of the circuitry in the control box, and served as a quick way to test that the system was working. You can see how far the spark jumped when ralphie turned the key. I was a driveability technician back in the 80s and 90s, up to 2004. Worked on a ton of these

I used to frequent a junk yard way way out in the boonies. He had junk cars parked right next to the house well they called it a house. He had cars and trucks from the early thirty’s to late 80s . I scavenged parts for my 49 Chevy at the time,mainly a radio. One day my Dad told me that the man had sold most all the cars and trucks to a scraper. The next time in the boonies there sat a brand new two story fine brick home . It has a three car garage right out front with a top of the line snooker table right in the middle. No 49 Chevys to be found.I just shook my head and kinda felt sick in my stomach. Great show today 👍

Keep on your Fairmont/Zephyr path. The wagons were excellent cars, too. Long videos are just fine, I hate having to go looking for 1, 2, 3, 4 etc. videos to see a single story on youtube, fighting the too frequent/repetitious ads. I've got an '80 Futura bought new, with 3.3L (200) I-6, and 4-speed floor shifter. Drove it 10 years daily, mostly interstate; 21/30 mpg fuel label was legit; I averaged better than 28 mpg over the 10-years and better than 30 on flat land trips; accumulated 202,000 miles, then parked it in my garage. It's still there. Perfect car purchase for me at that time with high gas prices. Gas price came down so I replaced it with an F-150 that I eventually drove 334,000 miles. Your family videos are quite entertaining.

Love those old 6's. Sounds like a 170 but I can't remember if they were still making that by then. The 200 had a little more whistle from the carb (which is what that mystery "vacuum leak" you were hearing most likely was.) My first on-the-road wheels were on a '71 F100 with a 240 and column shift 3 speed. It did have a heater. Nothing else. Not even AM radio. To this day I don't like listening to a radio when driving because I like to be able to hear what's going on. And yes, I always watch until the end. I do enjoy the wrap-up hood sitting with Rocky and friends. You have a good format going here and a good crew both on and behind the cameras! Bill

I broke it in as a new car once again and then got down to I-93 into Boston commuting wars- not slow driving out there. What a great car, until it rusted out from underneath me seven yrs later at 120K miles and running strong, burning no oil on the early optional Mitsu 2.6. Never left me at the side of any road!

I believe that it's the nicest interior I've seen in any of the vehicles that you just purchased. I've been watching you for a while I like your contact. I think you've got a wonderful family. They're all comedians. They're all funny but I especially like your goat he is rocky as a character

May be wrong, but I think if you move the tire/wheel further away from the center post it will break better. You need to angle the wedge toward the wheel itself. Looking great by the way. Very nice car.

My favorite was the 77 78 cougar I was going to buy one with T tops. It was 5 yrs old with low miles and looked like it was in perfect condition. Loaded with all the extras. The very next day I lost my job, so I passed on it. It was a light green 1977 Cougar XR7, long hood beast with a 351 M. Clean as a new one in 1982. Beautiful car In the 80’s I was always getting laid off from a job.

I’m new to the channel. Great to see the whole family involved. And I love your patience in explaining to your kids what you’re doing and letting them. I haven’t caught up with all the old videos, so you may have already answered this. What are your plans for these cars once you get them running?

I rented one of those Fairmont 6cyl , back in 1978. It was brand new. Only way to spin the tire, was to get it going on the gravel, and then hit the highway.😀👍 Probably the most underpowered car I can remember 🤔

I had to watch this episode as soon as I seen that car. I had an 80 Mercury Zephyr just like that. Same color and all, only mine was a 4 cylinder 4 speed manual and had a sunroof. Mine was a Z-Type and had leopard striped seats. I loved that car.

My dad bought one of these in 1980 I believe it had a 2.3 engine and a manual transmission on the floor and bucket seats and a console also sunroof AC power steering cassette stereo. Not much power but when you were by yourself it was fun to drive
