As a peruvian who watched this unfold in real time there's a few things you missed. 1. Brian was Ruth ex, he started to harras her for the money the moment the show ended, even when she still hadn't received the money. 2. He paid a kid to called him when Ruth get off the bus that take her home, he kidnapped her with the help from his uncle and beat her in his mototaxi, police found blood there. 3. He drugged her so she would give him her bank account info, she didn't, so they SA her and torture her . 3. They killed her and pretend to be a crime of passion bc at the time there wasn't a law for feminicio, and crime of passion got less time. 4. He indeed was no longer his bf, but been called a cachudo on newspapers and tv (guy who was cheated on) played a part on his ego. 5. Ruth's sister said that the show knew a lot of the answers were false, but still told Ruth to tell them for rating.

@@Ruqayalove_01 because it's a show that's broadcasted live in national TV. They're very clearly showing her identity and how much money she's making from the show, there were no protections in place to prevent this kind of thing, especially femicides (which happen VERY often in Peru, unfortunately). I didn't know about #5 so that's even worse because they're putting her in even more danger. This was the first ever episode of the show (it's since been canceled but after what happened to Ruth they only asked high-profile people (idk how to explain it but basically not regular citizens) to come as guests) and while yes, some of the issues were huge oversights, the show basically telling her to lie/exaggerate is a blatant disregard to her safety

At 18 she was not naive enough to lie, to live a double life. Or to work in a strip club. Or to engage in prostitution. Not naive enough to sell her body and soul for money. If she was that naive then she wouldn't try to cover up her double life, she knew what she was doing she just didn't have the capacity to care. She said it herself - she admitted to just being with the boyfriend till someone better comes along and admitted to being embarrassed by the parents. But looking through Spanish Wikipedia, it seems that people call him a bestia because he’s not “politically correct,” because of his reaction to Ruth’s murder, and because of his own scandal of alleged pedophilia (alleged because it seems to be an ongoing investigation).

Supposedly, a polygraph can be beaten by getting worked up during the “baseline” questions such as your name. Polygraphs measure things like heart rate and breathing, which probably could be affected by stepping on a thumbtack. You have to have either zero response to any question (like a sociopath) or the same reaction to every question. If you seem nervous/sweaty while answering your name, they won’t think you’re lying when you’re nervous/sweaty from the difficult questions.

Stephanie, hi. There's a statement you said that in Peru prostitution is legal, actually it's in a gray area, because there is no law stating that it's a crime in our constitution ("ok" in law but no for the society), but there's no law that recognized it as a professional occupation, which is why they are often exploited by gangs or mafias and end up as victims
@rezhaadriantanuharja3389
@rezhaadriantanuharja3389 27 днів тому
Does Peru’s law recognize self-employment as a miscellaneous service provider? Then prostitution probably goes under this category, and therefore, is a legal occupation. Pretty sure the law does not extensively list all possible professional occupations on earth. Not ok by society does not make something illegal, by definition
@dunnoknowthiscat
@dunnoknowthiscat 27 днів тому
@@rezhaadriantanuharja3389Actually, prostitution isn't looked like a self-employment type of job in Peru, it's more like a voluntary act to work in this type of field that's why it isn't included as a legal occupation. And about the illegal part, my mistake, what I mean is that peruvian society stigmatize prostitution that's why the question they made of her had a big impact.

True but legalized sex workers still get exploited, abused and menaced into non consensual acts. Just because it’s legalized doesn’t make it perfect and to be blunt sex work is all around physically and emotionally draining and simply not good for any party involved, no matter how you spin it or how it looks from the outside/on social media. We as a society would be better off working on a grass root level against it, creating opportunities where young women don’t need to turn to those types of jobs and that type of consumption isn’t promoted.

I'm Peruvian and I was around Ruth's age when this happened. It was shocking to hear about the show when she disappeared but I don't remember anyone on any news network reporting on the case as "the prostitute" from the show. Her name became extremely well known and we all knew her as the first contestant of the show. I reviewed the show notes looking for any evidence that pointed that out but could find anything. What actually happened was that some everyday people did call her like that even after she passed away. Everyday Peruvians with no compassion were that callous, but that didn't happen on the news, at least that didn't happen in Peruvian news.

Thank you for commenting this. Hearing her say that in English wasn’t so bad, but when I said it out loud in Spanish, I had to pause and process it, because even if it’s a bad word in English, it just feels so much worse in Spanish and I can’t see a lot of news sources using it, particularly any reputable ones.

Exactly! I was in high school when I saw the news, but I know that most of the news in tv, online and some newspapers reporting the case as the first winner of the show but not "the prostitute", maybe a couple of the 'chicha' newspapers that create big headlines as bait to buy and read their side of the story

Thank you!! I was 19 when this came out and EVERYONE and their mother knew her name! Maybe a chicha newspaper called her ‘The prostitute’ but I never saw it and it wasn’t on tv. I couldn’t find anything either. Also, I know she’s a victim of a horrible crime but when the show came out everyone thought she was awful, not for the sex thing but because she was so embarrassed of her parents. She repeatedly stated how they were poor and ignorant, how she deserved so much more and their hard work was not enough so she had to dance at a nightclub to get more stuff. It was bad. So there was a lot of people saying she deserved it because of her greed. It was an awful case all around.
@DD-hp9vo
@DD-hp9vo 21 день тому
But honestly wat was the expectation? She herself admitted to this, she said yes she participated in prostitution. Aside from this she admitted to other questionable choices regarding other forms of sex work - i.e. dancing/stripping in a nightclub known to offer sex services in Peru. So why is it offensive, what was the expectation if she WILLINGLY admitted to this on such a public platform.

Polygraphs don't stand up in court because they can also show that you are lying when you are not. They go both ways. Someone can beat a polygraph by say, stepping on a thumb tack, but on the flip side, If someone is nervous, that can cause it to say they are lying even If they are not. If someone tells a lie, but completely believe that lie, they will pass. There's no way of knowing what is really the truth or lie, believed or not believed, and no way of knowing exactly what the lie is(part of the question, or the answer itself). This is why nowadays they combine the polygraph with observations of body movement and facial expressions and then link those with evidence they have. A polygraph on its own only shows what makes someone nervous, but not why.

Peruvian here! I watched this show when it aired. It really seemed very weird to me when the show brought just a “regular” person for the show because they would normally have very famous guests over. However this special case was very shocking. If you guys ever watch the show you can see her body language, the way she speaks and holds herself she seems to have a good heart and be a very genuine person which keeps you hooked to watch the full show. Feminicide has been and still is a really bad problem in Peru. Besides Feminicide, Peru is a very VERY conservative country and still is: People will look down on you if you divorce your partner (it doesn’t matter if they hit you or if they cheated on you the woman will always look bad), people will judge you if you are not either catholic or Christian, if your kids don’t go to a good school or college, if you are poor, if you look like a “cholo”, if you opted to not be straight, if you don’t have a good job, racism and classism on top of that. This is very sad but the truth. I love my country but this is part of the dark side of this country. I also don’t live in Peru anymore, I love love my country and I am deeply sad because I am a woman and I am very vocal on what makes me uncomfortable and I know this is something that many men or just people over there won’t ever be able to handle over there.

The wildest one was a wife openly admitting to not only cheating on her husband, but cheating on him with his best friend and coworkers....while he's sitting like 10ft away ☠️ apparently prior to the show, he knew that she had cheated "once" but didn't realize the full extent. She ended up getting eliminated because when asked if she believed herself to be a good person, she answered a confident yes but the lie detector said it was a "lie". I think it was mostly the producers trying to ixnay her off.

I couldn't imagine being that woman's poor husband, he looked utterly devastated & you could just tell she completely broke his heart. Not only did she admit to cheating, she also admitted that she wished she was married to her ex-boyfriend instead of her husband. Afterward, she said she went on the show in an attempt to gain "fame & fortune." 🙄 And after all that, she ended up leaving without a single dime. Putting an easily manipulated child on TV in front of the country, knowing that she'll be mocked by all those people, is pure evil from the producers. Not mentioning that her "big secrets" is not even something that is frowned upon in most parts of the world. Had doubts about her relationship, is bi, works at a nightclub, lied to parents... By God, she's 18 years old. She explores the world and searches for her place in it. Everybody makes questionable choices at 18. That's how we learn about life. Everyone failed her.

Maybe on paper (due to min wages and such) but cost of living changes dramatically in peru when living in higher class areas. For example, $10k in Peru may not give you as much as $200k in the US depending on where you live or where you shop. Also, the classes are not very comparable to the US. For example, lower class here is considered more of a middle class in Peru. But in general, yes the amount of money offered in the show was a lot for the average peruvian.
