On February 24, 2022, Russia invaded Ukraine. One of the principal targets was Kyiv, the Ukrainian capital. Most outside observers, including U.S. intelligence, believed that the political center of would fall quickly. But as the hours turned to days, and the days turned to weeks, Ukraine proved that Kyiv would not fall so easily.
But the story of how Kyiv survived is complicated. A combination of Russian miscalculations and clever Ukrainian strategy made the difference. The dreaded 64-kilometer Russian Kyiv convoy fell apart, giving Ukraine a fighting chance for the rest of the war. This is the story of the Battle of Kyiv.

But Putin has the control over intelligence agencies as well the high levels of politice and SF. Even if he is not in office he would still the real ruler of Russia and any question means getting assassinated. He also the one that chose and selected them. He also has a team with him. What u talking about is his convent no headache zone, buy it is not a problem. That is why Putin should have used onfirst day way more rockts as well E-Bombs (EMP) as well small and tiny nuks and a real one on Kevi. Then make the army in 4 groups in tow sectors (back and front). Front has 3 groups where 2 of them work together. The 3 attacking groups are done in a Britizec way. Deploy super massive thick wide air and ground with anti communications and radar smoke screens. Also deploy sound bombs and other smoke screens types. Use other anti technology stuff: like jammers and what not. Keep deploying more E-Bombs to destroy their technology and weapons. Any resisting area surround and deploy chemical weapons on them and clusters. This way no more air defenses and jets so they can have air superiority. Deploy the super sonic stealth bombers. With hypersonic missiles any air objects that remains destroyed. They can mount small E-Bombs on those hypersonic missiles. Use flash bombs that blinds as well lazers that blind. Poison ammo, use acids ect... Do some Mongolias stuff to terrify the remainder but also be generous at sametime as long no resistance. 2 weeks max all Ukraine and Moldova under control. 5 days max fighting and resist deploying a new gov and control over the population. This through needs 250k-500k ,or it might take longer like a month and one of which week as fighting. Min is 220k.

"True evidence" of Iraqi chemical weapons? You do realize that Saddam used Sarin gas on both the Kurds and the Sunnis? You do realize it was France under Jacque Chirac who sold Saddam those weapons on orders from the White House? Then there is the Sarin Gas shells used on American Troops during the Battle of Bagdad. There is also the convoy that famously fled the capital for Syria the night of the invasion. The US Air Force was ordered to stand down and NOT attack it despite surveillance showing it WAS the trucks Collin Power described at the UN. Finally, where did Assad get his chemical weapons used in the Syrian Civil War? Both Saddam and Assad were Baathists. Their public spat was a spectacle for the international audience.

There is only one publishing house on Earth that uses Times fonts beautifully, and that’s the Times newspaper. As a former designer, I can say that it’s exceptionally difficult to create solid typography using Times fonts. Personally, I find Calibri okay. It works for both screens and paper, its round form makes it look not so formal, it supports many languages and its kerning pairs are alright. So, it’s not annoying and gets the job done.

I've been watching William's videos for several months now and every one is informative and absorbing. His graphics are - for want of a better word - basic, with still photos and rudimentary diagrams. But the commentary is so compelling. He has one of those voices that makes you want to listen more. And although I'd say the visuals are basic, they make the story understandable. So often on TV news you get fancy hi-tech graphics that move so fast you don't get a chance to take in the information. William's graphics move at a pace that my brain can process.

As a person who was in Kiev at that time, I can say that even more defense was built. Every 100-150 meters were block posts with soldiers of territorial defense brigade, random vires through the streets to confuse which road was mined.... We, as a students, rushed to paint in black all road signs, blocked some small roads with trash containers, and even flipped a very old car to block. A few days later we were asked to fill bags with sand in nearby construction side. (also we were impressed by the government, that sent each day to university a car full of cooked food)

I remember specifically when Zelensky decided to make weapons available to his population. This for me will be the action that elevated him to a great leader. It shows that he had faith and trust in his people and he also knew that the Russian army would be brutal towards civilians and they deserved a chance. I can think of no other act by the leader of a country as important. It really impressed me even more than his refusing to leave. If Russian propaganda was true it would have resulted in civil war and chaos. It wasn't. Ukraine was united and defiant.

It takes a lot of bravery hoping that some civilian will risk themselves getting "liquidated" just to buy yourself more time. Also arming the civilian population would only guarantees harsher reprisals against the civilian population if Kiev was occupied.

Zelensky’s role in the history of Ukraine should forever be cemented as legendary. Like Churchill, or Lincoln or something. He has been crucial to all of this and has honestly been one of the best war time leaders in history. Without him Ukraine would’ve already fallen likely enough. Courage goes a long way, he obviously truly cares for and loves his country.

I'm sure it will: Zelensky's refusal to cut-and-run was one of the first things that threw the Russian invasion plan off its script. Another interesting political factor: Zelensky's predecessor Petro Poroshenko, the guy Zelensky beat to become president, very much his political opposition, also very publicly joined in the defense of Kyiv. I'm guessing he hadn't done that out of the goodness of his heart, but it also made the defense of the Ukraine government not a partisan thing and not a defense of Zelensky and his party, but rather a defense of the country as a whole.

Worth noting is another thing we saw a lot of was overturned plates painted green. From the drivers seat of a BMP that looks awfully close to a landmine, which means you have to stop, get out, and move it, or at least confirm it’s not a mine. If enough of these are placed by civilians just hoping to mess with the invaders, it starts to pose a real risk a frustrated tanker will roll right over a real mine, placed by a local fighter.

“Attack your enemy’s ability to wage war” is the theoretical framework for what we call “maneuver warfare” - shattering enemy cohesion by viewing it as a system of strengths and vulnerabilities, which is what we largely practice in the West. It’s a departure from attrition warfare, which is the obsolete strategy that Russia continues to employ.

To get an idea just how long the convoy was; To trip between Amsterdam and Haag would be shorter. Going from the center to Berlin to Podstam, you could turn around and it would still be leftovers. It was a huge thing.

If you read about the 10 May 1940 attack on France by Germany, the world's largest vehicle convoy was observed by multiple Allied aircraft. However , their weak attempts to strike that convoy ultimately allowed the German breakthrough at Sedan.

Excellent analogy, it really puts it in perspective. In a similar sense, I was thinking of the pictures of the air armada over the Netherlands in operation Market Garden. BTW my Father was in the armoured column fighting towards Arnhem. My Mother in law was evacuated out of Arnhem to the country, well a highland regiment apparently used the farm as a evacuation point and it was totally destroyed. She said her neck hurt from looking up at all of the aircraft. Cheers from Canada.

@@amerigo88 A good point in history where the Germans took an incredible risk, where the Belgian's and French could have hit German forces and destroyed them by commiting all forces. Germany won because of being a superior combined arms army with reasonably working logistics at the time. The French and Belgian's were inept and could have easily choked off the German supply lines. This using guns and air to protect tanks on their weak points, allowing them to roar through the enemy lines became known as ‘blitzkrieg’. The Allies did not hit the supply lines partly because they couldn’t in time, and partly because no one was expecting this new type of war. It had been used in Poland, but Polands defeat had been put down to its underarmed forces. No one expected 2/5 of the superior allied forces in France to be suddenly cut off from supply like that.

"Blitzkrieg" was just a propaganda catchphrase, which was coinded later. It is nicely described in book titled "The Blitzkrieg Legend-The 1940 Campaign in the West" by Karl-Heinz Frieser. "The Allies did not hit the supply lines partly because they couldn’t in time, and partly because no one was expecting this new type of war" 1. They couldn't because: a) Their air force was much weaker than Luftwaffe at that time; b)They thought that main German attack was conducted through Belgium, not Ardennes, so they ignored it. 2. They did expect it, since they already knew how invasion of Poland looked like. "No one expected 2/5 of the superior allied forces in France to be suddenly cut off from supply like that." - That is true, mainly because of using Meinstein's risky plan. Many German generals opposed it.

Something I wish you'd mentioned here: The "pinch" tactic you describe bears a strong resemblance to the "motti" tactic famously used by Finland to successfully defend itself against overwhelming Russian vehicle forces ... in 1939. It's basically the standard maneuver nowadays for "How do you stop an armored column stuck on a road in forested terrain? Hit the front, hit the back, deal with the rest at your leisure."

So, why don't the majority of us, normal people, sit down and enjoy this bumpy ride. The main fault was the U.S didn’t do a good job of winning over the heard and minds of the people and effectively dismantling the power system or lead ship of the opposition. The Vietnamese were tenacious, creative, intelligent, and opponent worthy of the utmost respect. Meanwhile the Russians are going negative losing over half their equipment and stockpile. Thousands of tanks and vehicles being destroyed or captured, and the complete pacification of their Air force because it’s incompetent, like the rest of the Russian military. Let’s not even talk about the embarrassment that is the Russian navy. How do you lose your flagship to a nation without a real navy… you can’t make this crap up lol. Keep coping with the fact the U.K or Japan could beat your entire nation solo.

They had powerful aircraft and weaponry… you conveniently like to ignore the horrific maintenance reports on the Moskva which lead to it being lost which Russian bots do so I’m not surprised in the least. Perfect example of the shear level of incompetence we are witnessing. Adequately equipped? Ukraine was using old broken Russian tech from the Soviet era. The Russians didn’t have much better obviously even though they like to claim the opposite with their “T-14” that broke down in their own parade or Su-57 that totally isn’t a paperweight they can’t afford to use. The Russian bots seem to get more angry and lost in their dementia as their favorite “Special Military operation” gets its back blown out by Ukraine. And yes, The British could solo ur whole country, they are way better trained, maintained, more advanced, and having much larger testicles than anyone in the Russian military still alive lol. Oh and funny you mention the USS Cole, It was stationary, and the terrorists made their boat look civilian. This was a ruffling station where many civilian ships were located… The ship had a 40 foot hole but managed to stay afloat and conduct effective damage control. This ship was being refueled which obviously significantly decreased its effectiveness as a warship but still managed to survive. The Moskva was in an active war zone, the flagship, not just a destroyer, higher specification on paper but still got destroyed due to Russian incompetence and poor maintenance. Did you even Look at what happened with the U.S.S Cole or just google it for 3 seconds like the good little bot you are. If you knew anything about it you knew it worked against the narrative you tried so desperately to make… You need to try a tad harder than that. The Vietnam air losses are so high because the U.S was unable to efficiently target many of the airfields North Vietnam or its AA. This was for political reasons and if the troops had permission to destroy and suppress these sites instead of letting them do as they please the losses would be much less than they were. They would put a crater in the runway just for it to be patched immediately. You can’t win a war like that. The war in Vietnam was a disaster because the military was forced to fight blindfolded and with both arms tied behind their back by their own government which a discussion for a different day.

I was told the Russians withdrew from the outskirts of Kiev because they thought they had an agreement with Ukraine, but then under pressure from the UK reneged on the deal. That might be wrong, it's just what I heard.

I lived next door to the Russian Embassy in Bishkek and on Feb 23rd I was walking home and saw all the windows were being blackout and barbed wire being put up. I thought it was strange. Then I woke up and they had invaded Ukraine. When I went outside someone who thrown blood all over the embassy gates.

The CIA apparently knows more about Russia than its own government. I am not even joking. A CIA agent ended up saying that during the 80s, they would find information and literally could see it taking days to weeks to get to relevant people. The agent literally said it was so slow sometimes that urgent requests that he was monitoring could be recieved the day before his vacation and he knew it wasn't going to reach the relevant people before he got back. We also apparently know where Putin is at almost all time and the CIA likes to randomly ping him with his GPS coordinates. Meanwhile Russian fighters were determining bombing locations using dual frequency stations. This is so old that it was considered outdated in WW2.

Pretty much a win as the goal was stopping British seizure of US sailors Civil War - win but it depends how you view it or it might be a draw. Mexican-American War - the results speak for themselves. WW1 - hard to call this a loss WW2 - really hard to call this a loss given it was on 2 fronts and they won both Korea - draw at best. In reality, it is likely a win given the fact that Korea was almost fully taken. Vietnam - the US left over a year before the collapse and had a complete draw down. Not wanting to re-engage after a treaty isn't a loss. Grenada - Hard to call this a loss 1st Gulf War - you would be stretching to call this a loss 2nd gulf War- hard to call this a loss Iraq - Still standing but debatable on results. Afghanistan - hard to call this a win in any way

People keep saying that without US help Ukraine would’ve fallen. But most of the good stuff was near the Donbas. Kiev was very open to attack and the Russians knew this. That’s why they were aggressive with their VDV units. What truly saved Ukraine those first few days was the ingenuity and tenacity of Ukraines upper command and the grit and bravery of the common infantry man and the volunteer partisan groups(some only armed with plastic explosives and old rifles).

You are right. However, the US provided intelligence also known as the silent multiplier. Good intelligence can make an average force look like the special forces. Bad intelligence can make the special forces look like rank amateurs. For instance, the Hostmel Airport details helped Ukraine by knowing where they were likely to attack. 1-2 days of delay in a war is just that: equipment not being present which quickly goes south.

Nah your wrong, if the U.S didn't train Ukrainian soldiers after the Crimea incident they would have been ran through like a hooker on the Las Vegas strip. Not to mention all the intelligence we supplied them with, and weapons they had prior to getting world wide support came from the U.S. but of course everyone enjoys discrediting the U.S which is why I wish the U.S would just let these nations of the world especially European ones to defend themselves and stop asking us for help.

Americans love a underdog because that was us one time! There was no way we should’ve won that war vs the Brits! Their own confidence and brash decisions is what made them lose! This was when guerilla tactics won another war! They would walk bunched up in huge groups. Americans would be spread out and hidden, learned from the Native Americans about camouflage! The Brits weren’t hunters like the Americans who had to hunt to survive in some areas. We sent them running back to England and the US was born!

It’s mind boggling how technology made everyone into intel gatherers. Not just those in the field, but People in online groups spotting things in photos and passing it on. Citizens leaving behind SIM cards in cellphones and giving the info to the Ukrainian army. People around the world sending their drones, old cellphones, 3D printers and supplies for soldiers. Being able to personally fund a war by purchasing a bullet, having a message written on it and receiving a video of it being shot at a target.

I've talked to a bunch of soldiers from the northern front. Those convoys (not one) were so overwhelming, nobody had more than a couple of anti tank shoulder launchers and the mission looked suicidal. Ofc then the planes came into play and bombed everything into rusty dust, but just imagine being a foot soldier and attacking a column of dozens of tanks and thousands of soldiers. You need some decently sized balls to achieve this. If only russians knew how few people ambushed them at any point it would be much worse for us. Anyways, being cocky and brave paid off. Thank God and the Ukrainian army.

Had they had air dominance it would have been absolutely fine. A night mare to manage but ultimately would have worked. But without complete air control it essentially left the troops as sitting ducks

The soldiers from the trenches started throwing up from radiation poisoning. When they dug up the soil it disturbed the soil releasing radioactive material that had years of leaf litter built up on top of it. The Russian soldiers didn't know there was a meltdown at Chernobyl, it's not taught in Russian schools.

The part of this invasion where they dug in and lived in the area around chernobyl, and got acute radiation sickness is hilarious. But just so hard to understand how any command would allow their people to do this.

Why do you think that they knew anything about the place and it's history? You can't smell radiation and they most likely had never heard of the accident.

@@0MoTheG Well maybe some soldiers hadn't heard of the accident, but it is the site of THE biggest nuclear disaster ever to happen, so zero chance command wouldn't know about it, even Russian command 🤷🏻♂️

These are amazing. Any chance you can look into the Chernihiv area? I recall a column threatening Kyiv from that direction but the entire axis of attack seemed to collapse short after the Irpin confrontation.

Shortly, convoys on Chernihiv and Sumy direction was waaaay to longer than from the north of Kyiv. And that convoys faced with: 1) Lack of fuel; 2) Lack of food; 3) Pinch attacks from Ukrainian army; 4) and even squads of self-orginized civil hunters with a simple hunting riffles - so called “Hadiach Safari” by the name of town where it happened. So, ruzzians were happy to leave I guess. Translation of interviewed local who were there: The whole convoy stopped, they were waiting for the gasoline trucks to arrive. They stood for 12 hours, no one came. The locals started to come out of the houses, they[russians] flew out of the tanks and started to run away. All the local people from Gadiach and Poltava went there, because it is not far away, all the hunters and whoever else go through the forests and shoot these bastards. Our part who knows how to handle the equipment has already arrived, started to remove Z symbol, turned the equipment around and are going to Poltava so that we can use this equipment. In short, it was called "Hadiach Safari".
