Love di2, don’t want anything other anymore! Works!

When I got down to finishing the di2 part of the build i realized if I just run a long wire to the RS910 I have to dangle it if i want to work on the cockpit by taking it off the fork like a mechanical build so I did wind up bridging a coupler right outside the frame with 2 segmented lines to easily remove the cockpit/handlebar on the table. Thanks again ! That damn yspit is one of the stupidest "solutions" to a problem that should not exist.

does that way of doing it allow you to connect sprint shifters?

I used a second Junction B to replace the old Junction A and it was plug and play (All 9150). I drilled a small hole just above where my thumb rests in the drops allowing the 250mm e-tube wire to exit and connect to the right shifter.

Hi Cyclespeed Tours...Just an update on my DI2 sync shifting upgrade. I managed to finally update my old 9070 front and rear derailleurs today. My Sync and semi sync shifting works a treat. OLD with NEW. A long wait but finally done it. The only new parts i've added are the seat post battery and d-fly. One thing to mention is that when using the 3 port junction, to switch modes between normal, sync and semi sync it's worth noting that the default is normal. Pressing the button on junction A twice shifts between the 3 modes which I never knew. 1 flash is normal, 2 is sync shift and 3 is semi sync. Worth noting as I thought it wasn't working until I figured it out myself. By the way, I put my d-fly in the toptube towards the front headset , released the fork to do so. works a treat there, and got a 350mm wire to go from the d-fly to junction A through the di2 hole where the rear brake cable enters the top tube. I too have an sworks tarmac 2016 stealth 52.

Good info there thanks! Glad to hear it's all working well and that the 111 works fine inside the frame. I think it was today or yesterday that Shimano released the new firmware that allows non 9150 to have synchro shift.

Great video. Thanks. Buying the parts currently to do to my Tarmac with the Aerofly bars. I am assuming based on how the bared junction box mounts; you are not able to over wrap bar tape and hold in place with the plug.
@CyclespeedTours
@CyclespeedTours 7 років тому
Thanks! If you mean can you hold the RS910 in position with bar tape in some way, then I would say no, it needs it's mounting halves to be securely glued down. Hope I understood correctly!

Hi Chris, Did you have any problems with passing the cables through the handlebar on the way to she bar end?
@nicolazanon4336
@nicolazanon4336 6 років тому
Very interesting video, thanks!! just two questions please: 1. does this cabling work also for the 9150 DA? 2. the 70 cm cable connecting the 2 shifter ... I was expecting it connecting the left shifter with the RS910 junctionbox instead of the right shifter ... am I wrong??
@CyclespeedTours
@CyclespeedTours 6 років тому
Hi - sure no problem with 9150 - my system is nearly all 9150 anyway, apart from the front mech. You could put that cable into the 910, but it makes no difference, it works both ways, and it's easier to go to the shifter.

Thanks for this great vid, I've just bought a rs910 and connected everything the way you said. The shifters are working but the led indicators on the junction box aren't. Any thoughts? When I connect the old junction the leds are working.
@CyclespeedTours
@CyclespeedTours 6 років тому
That's odd. Can you access the trim and / or synchro shift modes? How about Bluetooth (if you have the Dfly sender)?
@sergegulikers
@sergegulikers 6 років тому
I don't have the Bluetooth thing, using ultegra 6870 di2. Can't access trim or synch mode either. Beginning to thing I've got a faulty junction box, since the old one is working.
@CyclespeedTours
@CyclespeedTours 6 років тому
OK. Can you see the RS910 with the Etubes program? Can you get hold of a PCE-1 charger/diag tool to check on the RS910? Strange you have shifting if RS910 faulty. But I guess only way to be sure is to try a new one. (Check firmware up to date, it often isn't out of the box).
@sergegulikers
@sergegulikers 6 років тому
Right, so I thought the groupset was up to date, turned out it wasn't. That's why the leds weren't working. Fix it now. Thanks a bunch!!!

That's great, well done. (I hope you 'liked' the video!!) :)
@mayalman
@mayalman 7 років тому
Everyone, just a quick note, the method in the video will not work with the BR-RS 785 shifters (the older hydraulic di2 ones with the silver face). This is because this type does not have the triple wire connection at the shifter, they only have one wire connection. For these shifters you will have to use the 'Y' wire, and if you want satellite shifters it might be easier for you to just use the traditional 3 or 5 port junction box.
@CyclespeedTours
@CyclespeedTours 7 років тому
Thanks for the tip! Check your shifters and if you have the 'normal' ones with 3 ports you're good to go!

Where would you put the Bluetooth transmitter then? I presume you'd have it somewhere along the really long cable near the head tube.
@CyclespeedTours
@CyclespeedTours 7 років тому
Mine is already installed in the BB area and works well, but with the newer 111, Shimano shows it externally, between the handlebar and frame. This would give best reception, but it'd probably be fine in the frame too.

Thanks much ! The di2 guy at my bike shop (who helped me with allot of stuff) was totally wrong on having to have the y split. I can as you said just use the 1200 di2 cable. Only problem with this method is if you are going to use climbing shifters on the right (which i am.) Sidebar: Why have e shifting if you can't shift from the tops ?) All 3 ports in the right shifter are used and I had to use a coupler on the r climbing shifter to hook to the left shifter. The other way I could do it is put the RS910 on the left side*. Then it will work (not for me though I have a mirror.) Regardless thanks this helped me think outside the box.

Yep, they just recite religiously from the Shimano manual without really thinking it through.....
@GH-iw5ew
@GH-iw5ew 5 років тому
@Cyclespeed Tours Great ideas see my amended comment, had to go with the coupler anyway. Shimano just amazes me ripoff with not having 3 ports on the a junction box RS910 (when I first got it I was really pissed.) I guess it would make too much sense to have that easily engineered vs charging the consumer and extra 65 bucks for the yplit, after already charging them an arm and a leg for the rs910 for the inside the bar junction box.
@CyclespeedTours
@CyclespeedTours 5 років тому
Yes, you're right, there are certain combinations (using climber or sprinter buttons) that require the Y-split. Maybe there wasn't room in the 910 for 3 ports...?@@GH-iw5ew

I have copied this set-up but cannot get it to work? My system uses 6870 shifters, 6870 Front Derailleur and 8050 GS rear Mech. Battery is the SM-BTR2-1. When I tried the E-Tube program it asks me if I want to use the Sprint button on 6870-R (which I dont have). Then doesn't recognise a MASTER unit? Can anyone help as it literally took hours to run the cables :(
@CyclespeedTours
@CyclespeedTours 6 років тому
Hmm, not sure, I assume the Master unit is the RS910? No reason it should not be recognised. Make sure everything has been fully updated to latest firmware. Then try with everything unplugged and plug in one component at a time.
@stevedavies9785
@stevedavies9785 6 років тому
Moved the connector to the middle plug on the shifter and now all good. Everything now recognised, updated firmware and good to go :)

I haven't tried it personally, but I would guess yes. Anyone else out there tried the Ergonova?
@ricric9521
@ricric9521 6 років тому
I have bar end control unit RS910 on 3T Ergonova carbon bars. No drilling needed. I routed the wire through the hidden cable routing holes. Difficult to get in there with my hydraulic cables (SS Evo Disc) but worth it. Basic understanding is wires just need to "touch" the system to communicate. No need to route any specific way. I have the bluetooth unit inside the upper head\bottom tube covered in foam to not rattle. Works great
