Reminds me of the Surfers Paradise Indycar track (my local race for 18 years). The first year or so, the track limits, close walls and visibility at corners was very much like Jeddah, and just as dangerous. Having a bigger spectacle shouldn't impact driver safety in what is already a dangerous sport. Were the track a more traditional circuit with sufficient run-off or gravel traps and the barriers far enough away I would have little issue with it. @LordDonnington as I said I could be wrong but part of the reason the barriers are like they are is they want to guide the car along the face, which results in less impact micks impact was partially a side glance. I think the only safer barriers are the ones they have at Monaco they are like the hard steel smooth ones.
@LordDonnington725
@LordDonnington725 Рік тому
@@campbellshepherd7882 In no world does hitting concrete, result in "less impact" regardless of the direction of motion. There is no deformation in concrete and all energy is directed directly into the crash structure of the car and the driver. Mick slammed the wall sideways at around 170 miles an hour. Sideways, diagonal, head on, take your thang down flip it and reverse it, it doesn't matter. Hitting concrete at that speed is insane. Safer Barrier is specifically designed to disperse the energy of the impact along a larger section of wall, rather than the car and driver. There is no argument to be made when compared to a rigid non yielding structure such as concrete (which is what the walls of Jeddah circuit is mainly composed of).
@LordDonnington725
@LordDonnington725 Рік тому
@@campbellshepherd7882 and the steel barriers at Monaco are not SAFER, at least the ones in the swimming pool is not. Those are standard steel barriers. SAFER is a series of hollow metal tubes stacked, which when hit with force can deform because they are hollow

If you add 2 more metres on the inside of a corner drivers will drive 2 metres closer to it 2) the main straight drs zone needs to be shortened, because both years we had issues of people letting others by because they know they can overtake on main straight with ease
@salim_abid_

I agree with the track limits thing, But it’s hard to argue with driver safety as that is way more important than anything else The DRS zones however I think should remain the same, Yh sometimes it’s easy to repass but it just adds an element of strategy. The overtaking driver could hold back and try his chances down the main straight or overtake and try to defend.

When you open corners by pushing physical objects back, your curbs are secondary devices to deter drivers. So, a lot hinges on the curb design, it can not allow driver to put one tire over it. If they are not punishing enough.. they have one tire on the racing track. They need to put something else, we don't want floor breaking deterrence but there are different types of sausage curves and curbs, and they do NOT have to be parallel or perpendicular, they could be angled which makes them really annoying to drive over. They can be slightly more aggressive in height as the tire will not face it head-on but at an angle. The tire deformation starts to push/pull the tire also vertically, away or towards the track. Which is annoying, it also punishes the steering column and thus the driver.

Circuit itself is great imo. Not my favourite but a good interesting track and hopefully with the new tweaks the right level of intensity but also safety. I want to be able to wince at a driver skimming the walls while trusting if they clipped or spun and hit they'd walk out comfortably. It feels more like a test of the driver and car, over other circuits where the cars dominates. My biggest gripe is the location. I would rather more tracks world wide than 15 tracks in europe and the middle east. Especially not in a country where I along with millions of other fans are not necessarily welcome.

How about Imola, that is a very dangerous track!

I honestly think the fact that there were two entertaining races at this track is not due to the track itself. One came from the fact that it was the penultimate round of one of the tightest championship battles in recent memory. The other one also had two different drivers in similarly competitive machinery fighting for the win. Most of the exciting stuff happened around the back to back DRS zones, and I don't think that part alone makes it "one of the best tracks for racing". There isn't a section of the track where you could, for example, take a clever line to sneak past your opponent or get better traction to out drag them. It's all medium to high speed sweepers with walls all around, so often there's just one viable line. I don't think it's terrible, there are plenty of tracks that produce worse racing, but I don't think it's one of the best tracks for racing either. Oh, and it would obviously be nice if the track wouldn't be so crash prone. I don't like drivers crashing out.

Saudi didnt cause any horrifying plane crashes. I see a little bit of generalised prejudice here.

Fun fact: did you know that corniche-on (spelled korniszon) in polish is gherkin in english? Basically a pickle. And that's precisely what that track is, a pickle.
