I’m red haired and it’s true, every time I go outside the whole neighborhood just insults me, and just perform a musical number to enhance they’re insults.

You know, when I was born in a hospital, I had two differently coloured eyes, still do. And the doctor proceeded to insult the hell out of me, then sing a catchy song about how ugly I looked with two differently coloured eyes. All the pregnant mums joined in, the nurse joined in, my mum joined in and even some newborn children started blabbering to the tune of the song. Hell, you could even hear unborn fetuses humming to the tune.

Fun fact: the narrator is Bobby "Boris" Pickett, the singer of the Monster Mash. The transylvania twist was his attempt at a first single that flopped which is why in the monster mash Dracula asks "Whatever happened to my transylvania twist?"

I had this book as a kid and it was SO much better than the movie. There were 0 animals, no Jack Olympics, no weird-looking pumpkins. It was just about this square pumpkin, every other pumpkin made fun of him, but then a storm hit and he was the only one who didn’t roll off, so being a square had its advantages for him

The way Danny described the scarecrow knowing that the pumpkins were taken home and m*rderd, was literally the plot of the “promised never land”🤣

I can distinctly remember watching this movie in kindergarten at Halloween and I remember when it was over the teacher asking us “now what did we learn from this movie” and everyone was silent

This was a children’s book. From what I remember, it was genuinely pretty good. It had a lovely message about how although people may have disabilities that can do great things. As others have pointed out, there is a darker message about how people who are different will only be excepted by society if they are of service to others. The book does a better job of everything. The book is obviously for little kids, so it’s short and sweet, but still gets the point across. I honestly don’t know why they made a movie based off of the book. All of the random filler stuff and side plots are really unnecessary. It would have made more sense to just do a short film if anything, than to try to add stupid stuff like the Olympic thing and what not. It would have been so much better if they did something like what they did with How the Grinch Stole Christmas. Anyways.. the book is good. The movie sucks.

One element of the film I like is how the scarecrow and bats aren’t necessarily opposed to Spookley. They’re surprised by his square shape but don’t really join in the song. They don’t stop the song or try to defend Spookley, but they don’t just join in. Even at the games they offer him some encouragement that he can try his best.

The book of this story is a core memory in my life, the moral is so sweet and it basically helped define who I am today. In the end, the farmer of the pumpkin patch makes the entire farm full of all different types of shapes and colors to show that there’s nothing wrong with being different. It’s adorable

As a first-grade teacher, I can attest to the fact that this movie, if nothing else, entertains kids for 20 minutes, so... THANK YOU, SPOOKLY!!!

I remember this movie, we named a cat after the bat Boris years ago when I was like 5-6. The cat ran off one day, no idea what happened to him.

Fun Fact: In the original childrens book of this movie, the pumpkins all got blown into a river and floated away or just got straight up smashed except for Spookley and that's how it ended

Ok, so here is me explanation for the zoned out scarecrow. He walks forward tripping over two pumpkins, but he hardly hears what they say. All he can think of is the gruesome fate he is leading them towards, as he stairs onward the only thing he can see is the pumpkins hopeful and nieve faces as they await what is to come. "Is this wrong?" He wonders.... doesn't matter though as his father did this before him and his grandfather and great grandfather. All growing pumpkins in a safe haven where they are tricked. So.....many......lost.....

The ending with the farmer is even weirder if you know about real square pumpkins. You can totally have a square pumpkin but it's because you put it in a square mold and it grew to fit that shape so the farmer would have been the one to make that pumpkin square in the first place...

moral of the story: if you're different everyone will hate you, *BUT* you'll be the last to die

This was a childhood classic for me. Also, I haven't seen this movie in a hot minute, I thought the animation would be worse than I remembered (which is the case for quite a few of the movies I saw as a kid), but it's actually pretty decent.

I know this is an old video by now, but it felt so surreal when I first saw this video in my notifications to see a movie I'd watched several times being covered by Danny that I just keep coming back to it.

Tbh this is a really good representation of living with disabilities. Your life will be harder, you will lose, you will get laughed at, but you will have things you're good at that other people aren't.

The moral is that babies have had it too easy and we should start roasting them more

I don’t kniw if anybody else did this. But as a young child, my family and I would watch a movie before trick or treating. Not even kidding, the movie of choice was almost always spookly the square pumpkin… watching it now being older, I realized that this movie was really weird. I never realized how mean the WHOLE TOWN WAS.

Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer really is a tale as old as time, and it gets re-hashed ALL the time. The Rankin-Bass version is my absolute favorite, but it's probably the reason why I sometimes fantasize about saving people's lives and they suddenly love me. So thanks for that, Robert L. May.

This was THE MOVIE of my elementary school, every October near Halloween we would watch this. Once, the principle even dressed up as spookley. Looking back, the movie was an absolute nightmare, but it made us all happy

It's weirdly got a good message. Little Tom is straight up projecting his insecurities as a conjoined twin onto a disabled kid. Spookley literally can't participate in games because of his body, he was born that way and is dehumanized in every way as a result, DESPITE how strange everyone else is. One bat is vegan, two pumpkins are conjoined, three pumpkins look more like pineapples, and one literally has lips. It's a strangley beautiful message and lesson that everyone is different for their own reasons, and that gives them their own strengths and that sometimes the hate of others is just a projection of themselves. Danny is also on point with how funny he is as always 🧡

the fact that they say "every day is a holiday" makes no sense if like most of the buildup is like. waiting for halloween especially with the sequel like does time progress normally or not??

What's ironic is that in Japan, there's an entire agricultural branch dedicated to growing square melons and other unique fruits. The work put into growing them takes a lot of skill and dedication, and often a large percentage of the crop doesn't make the cut. What does make the cut usually goes for very high prices, ($90+ range, if I remember correctly) and is typically given as gifts, not to be eaten, but to be displayed. Even in American culture though, how many people would pass up such a rare and unique *natural* genetic mutation? Like, you KNOW that kind of thing wouldn't happen often, so a lot of people would probably get it BECAUSE it's different.

10:50 hey there, I’m back from around a year ago, I reached out to the studio telling them that I was a UKpostsr called Shesez , and I wanted to do an “out of bounds” video on there movie. After receiving the animation files to Blender (yes I’m surprised they used blender to make this also) I skipped to this scene in the movie and it turned out that those pumpkins were actually just facing away from spookley and were supposed to be sleeping. I reached out to the animator of this scene and they said that “we wanted the scene to be the pumpkins sleeping because the sun was going down and we wanted the scenery to be like a sunset” So it turns out that the pumpkins do have faced they’re just on the other side, however! They didn’t animate the eyes closed and the pumpkins just had angry looks on their faces.

Omg I remember this movie as a kid. I watched it all the time and loved it. Even though it’s pretty dumb, it’s quite nostalgic for me and I have good memory’s of it.
