I could use Z13 for my desk setup, it works as secondary screen (connected to monitor), don't need an extra stand or space like secondary monitor setup, and it works like for example opening guide while playing in main screen, or showing a browser/web preview while I code in the main screen. I also have mechanical wireless keyboard, so the keyboard being detachable is a plus, because in tablet mode it will easier to handle, and If want a serious typing session, I would rather use my own keyboard.

The Asus Z13 Flow is actually perfect for 3D artists relying on CPU rendering, the powerful CPU performance while the "just enough" GPU helps with a lot of CPU bound workloads while having much better cooling for sustained workloads where your CPU is bound to maxed performance over hours or even days at a time. This can spill over to more productivity oriented workloads, like Architecture and Load Bearing simulation, which is really heavy.

I own the first Flow X13 and i love it. I wanted a laptop that would occasionally be usable also for drawing. And i also wanted something powerful so i could game on it on occasion too. I didn't get the eGPU. But this thingiee well idk, i am glad i bought the first gen and i am affraid there will no longer be a powerful convertible for a while again. I wanted primarily a small stealthy laptop but the tablet form factor is just way less practical. Because of the kickstand it takes more space when one needs to work on the go and for purely art purposes it lacks the correct tech, drawing will always be just secondary on this device. And for serious gaming one always has to connect it to an external monitor anyway because it is so tiny screen. The old one could have been used in tent mode too wth external keyboard like i don't get this. It is a step down in every way imo. The design has also a bit too extreme game aesthetic now too.

considering the flow x vs flow z thing... I need a device to write on (pen) that also could run cad and 3d modelling. I don't like the thermal design of surface devices and always liked the idea of the flow x. I would not have to buy a tablet and a laptop considering I don't really game on it primarily. When I travel tough I could potentially game on low settings. I do not plan on buying the gpu just for that usecase. My desktop pc has plenty power to do all the heavy lifting when I'm at home. Lately I travelled from one worksspace to another. I always used a wireless mouse/keyboard and one or two monitors anyways. Therefore I don't really care for the keyboard installed. Now with intel cpu and a smaller battery (flow z) I hope it does not fall behind in battery life compared to last gen flow x. I am going to buy what ever checks more boxes. Not quiet sure if flow x or z suits my needs better.

the Flow z13 could have an VESA 100x100 mounting system on the back or something like it to be more appealing than conventional laptop ( at least for my use case) with that mounting system will be so nice have it mounted on monitor ARM like a all-in-one system with peripheral attached and easy to take off for on the go situation
@JessPatton
@JessPatton 2 роки тому
I bet you someone will design one and make it available for 3d printing if Asus does not decide to make some sort of vesa mounting system for it. They could pretty much make a detachable vesa mount. So you can dock it at home, and just quickly dethatch it and throw it in your bag. The real kicker, and something that would make me buy one just cause, is if they made the vesa mount, but when you docket the flow 13 into the vesa mount, it would connect to a dock. So, you come home, click it into the mount, and BOOM, its charging, all your peripherals are connected via the dock, heck, they could even build extra cooling into the mounting system. I could really see the use case for tablet style laptops drastically changing if a good mounting system was developed along side it, so you could use it at home as a all in one computer, and then quickly detach it from your desk and throw it in your bag.

just a PSA: I bought the G14 2021 version about 6 months ago (RTX 3060, Ryzen 9). The specs on paper are amazing - powerful, incredible battery life etc., and while this is my experience, unfortunately the G14 suffers from quality control and software issues. This has made my experience with it very unenjoyable, I've had to dealt with numerous frustrating issues like random BSODs, game stuttering, monitor/ethernet not connecting etc.. Something to do with Asus's software results in all these issues which is not very nice for such an expensive laptop. I hope they fix this stuff for the 2022 model, but we'll see. I'd be curious to see if creators would experience any of these issues if they test store-bought units instead of the ones directly given by Asus.

man, the mothership project has evolved into a completely different direction than i was hoping for i was imagining that asus would ditch the idea of it being a laptop altogether and make it a powerful, portable all-in-one with 17-19 inch 120hz display that requires you to carry around a mouse and keyboard (let's be honest, if you're gaming on a laptop then you're not using a touchpad for that, and if you're hardcore gaming then you're not relying on a integrated kb either) then again, what asus gave us isn't half bad either, it's not like a 3050ti is a incapable gpu (quite frankly on paper it is more powerful than my desktop gtx 1080), it's just not what i was hoping for

Got a Zephyrus G14 last year, in July. 3060 version. I love it. It's the best laptop because I can watch youtube on it, and then fire up pretty much any game I want and play at 80-90 FPS min. It's my daily driver, which I would never expect from a gaming laptop. The upgrade should make it a no-brainer for any gamer, as well as anyone who wants some power out of their daily driver laptop. I wish mine had a webcam, but caching my fingerprint for Hello when I turn the computer on is pretty cool. And the keyboard is probably the most comfortable laptop keyboard I've ever typed on, making it perfect for work. Highly recommend Zephyrus G14

As a Asus Flow x13 owner, I would say that I love the hardware and they did an excellent job on it. However, I will complain about their "bloatware drivers". Yes, their drivers contain bloatware. Their MyAsus application is considered to be a semi-driver because you can't control the maximum battery charge without it. And even pops me up adds on the Windows' notification center about Asus products when I log-in to Windows. Really, adware? This battery feature should be integrated into the Bios instead. Then there is the Armory Crate application which is also considered to be a semi-driver. Because without it, my keyboard backlight will annoyingly flash when it is on sleep mode! And when installing this software it also installs NodeJs framework. Like, why are you installing a web-framework on my laptop? Again, controlling the keyboard backlight should be part of the bios.

Are you kidding?? The Flow Z's lack of keyboard is amazing! MUCH smaller footprint on a desk than a regular laptop and honestly you'll want to use a REAL keyboard to game. Your "I sure hope the engineers had fun designing it" comment made me think, a great video, or even series, would be if you could have someone who designs laptops, or motherboards, or something somewhat relatable, actually walk you through how they go about designing them, from conception to execution, interviewing some of the engineers at different levels. The ideal way to do this would be to do the walkthrough of the offices and the discussion with them, with follow ups, and only release the video when the product is announced or released. Then you wouldn't have to censor everything. I think these days you could afford it.

1:50 I just realized how mentally stunted the Microsoft Surface’s design is from a “Right to Repair”, e-waste, and post-Framework Laptop reliability stand point. On one hand, you have the Microsoft Surface’s tablet design which sure, “requires adhesives”, heat guns, and glue to achieve a inaccessible and screwless tablet design (much like the Apple iPad and other tablets); however, then they put a fan in the surface that will inevitably pick up 4 years of dust and debris before overheating and forcing the consumers to buy a newer Surface. In the context of a Framework laptop, any “powerful” “gaming capable” tablet/laptop that can not be easily serviced needs to be abandoned. In fact, I’m giving this Asus Flow, Microsoft Surface, and the Lenovo Yoga series some serious side eye. How many thousands or millions of those laptops were sold and shipped out only to fail within a decade? Before their first kids even made it to kindergarten? Sad!

But do they still use ASUS' faulty cooler design that kills the fan bearings after a few months of regular usage? I've personally owned two ROG Strix laptops (not technically Zephyrus, I know), and they both had the same problem. It's probably the most posted about topic on r/ASUS, apart from their abysmal RMA services. I used to be sold on the ROG brand, but after owning two machines that both suffered the same fault, and knowing others who've experienced the same fault is really discouraging. IIRC, the issue was still present on their 2021 lineup, and it's been a known issue since at least 2017. If they can't fix their fans in 4+ years, I'm out. As awesome as these groundbreaking designs are, and as much as I want to break the mold of standard clamshell laptops, I just cannot justify it. ASUS builds a golden façade atop a faulty foundation and I'm just done with it.
