THANK YOU SO MUCH! I was trying to understand Hungarian history and realized that I couldn’t understand it without understanding the Ottoman Empire. Then I realized I couldn’t understand the Ottoman Empire without understanding the rise of Islam and its relationship to the Byzantine empire. I really wish I had learned all this in school. The only thing I wished you would have gone into more detail on was the rise and fall of Islam in Spain. I went to Spain and fell in love with Islamic art, architecture and astronomy there. Anyway, thank you again for such a rich, clear description. Now I have a framework and timeframe to do more research.
@Alex-zw7sr
@Alex-zw7sr 12 днів тому
The rise and fall in Spain is a huge history lesson on its own. The Reconquista. It starts as a few Christian groups survive in the far northern mountains; all of lower Spain conquered by... I forgot which Islamic group by I think it became Al-Andulus. In the north, even the Christians were divided, and so for a hundred years nothing much changes. However, the Islamic part of the Iberian Peninsula slowly had their own internal dramas, and eventually a Christian king came to hold much of northern Spain through conquest. When he died he had 3 sons and his kingdom was split in 3, that of Galicia, Leon and Castille. This is why many modern Spanish people call themselves Castillian, and it's why they're proud of Castillian history. The Christian kingdoms had alliances, eventually even with that Portucale fella who became the king of Portugal, and Castille ended up united with a few different kingdoms as Spain (the modern name). The Muslim part of Iberia had become weaker and weaker, and so after about 700 years of war, the entire peninsula was once again under Christian rule. So, in the East, the Byzantines eventually fell and became Turkey, while in the West, the Iberian Muslims eventually fell and became Spain. The religions of Christianity and Islam have had war for many centuries because they border one another. A fun note, the famous Iconoclast movement in the Byzantine empire was started from Muslim influence. These two sister religions are intimately tied in fate and history, although often through war, death and violence.

Islamic rule in India was a form of colonialism, characterized by the imposition of a foreign islamic culture, religion, and political system on the Indian subcontinent. Muslims were foreign invaders who came to India and imposed their Islamic faith and culture on the indigenous population. They point to examples of the destruction of Hindu temples, the imposition of Jizya tax on non-Muslims, and the forced conversions to Islam as evidence of this colonialist mindset. Muslim social attitudes on modern issues have caused controversy everywhere. Islam to be incompatible with secular society, and that, unlike other religions, Islam positively commands its adherents to impose its religious law on all peoples, believers and unbelievers alike, whenever possible and by any means necessary. Islam allows to propagate abuses, such as the mistreatment of women and homosexuals, and slavery. They also state that multiculturalism allows a degree of religious freedom that exceeds what is needed for personal religious freedom and is conducive to the creation of organizations aimed at undermining secular values. According to poll, high people had an unfavourable view of Islam, higher than for any other religion.
@nibrasalchoufi3450
@nibrasalchoufi3450 6 місяців тому
The developed world is a dying world based on its fertility rates meaning its standards cannot fulfill a fundemental need for a self sustaining society so how could the secular society be a proper reference to judge the muslim society? Also if you were even listening to the video's content you should have realised that Islam does not imply spreading it by any means.

There are biases, though subtle. For example, to say Mohammmed pbuh "waged wars against the polytheists" is misleading. Initial wars were defensive (Battle of Badr, Battle of Uhud, Battle of the Trench, etc.), and wars waged later on were to get ahead of other tribes who were likely to wage war on the muslims displayed in their actions. Some tribes were flat out caught being treacherous and breaking agreements (even in the middle of battle sometimes), which would not go unchecked in any former or modern society.
@apocalypticskepticus3299
@apocalypticskepticus3299 5 місяців тому
@@eesa First it is necessary for you to learn what being biased means, because you clearly do not understand the concept. You are telling me the Muslim version of the conflict with the polytheists of Arabia, we have no other source to confirm whether everything you say is correct or not. To think that you can accuse others of being ''biased'' by using a ONE-SIDED source is truly paradoxical.

@AbdurRahmanabubakar5527
@AbdurRahmanabubakar5527 2 місяці тому
@@apocalypticskepticus3299I won't say its bias, I will say its over simplified to the core. It makes it sound as if Muhammad was a strong man bullying Arabia and we know it was quite the opposite. He and his state were always in the brink of extermination until the last few years of his life and even then, a new threat, the byzantine and Persians.
@AbdurRahmanabubakar5527
@AbdurRahmanabubakar5527 2 місяці тому
@@apocalypticskepticus3299@eesa is to some extent right. Although I don't believe the video is bias, I believe its over simplified, but that was the point of the video 😅 to summarise it. But what we do know is Muhammad wasn't going around waging war on people, that would have been a terrible mistake infact, the whole of Arabia was pretty much against him, would be not wise to make new enemies, he was always in a defensive posture, but his defiant attitude caused him to triumph. Read about him, very interesting man. His religion is a great one as well. Very interesting religion which intrests me alot. I'll suggest you read about the man and his legacy. Peace be upon him.

@@Indresh2468 It's very funny when Atheists talk about science.. Science is just the study of the Creation of God.. And Common sense guides to islam because there can't be an infinite series of dependent beings there must be an independent being who has power and free will.. And the universe has an age as well about 13+ Billion years and an end there must be someone who brought it into existence.. So it's science that makes a man with common sense believe in God.. A little knowledge of science will make a person atheist !

@@AuspiciousUKposts I don't know what you mean by "infinite series of dependent beings" - you're already using bullshit terms said in your religion to justify your religion. If you want to have a proper debate, use neutral terms and debate from common sense. Not cherry pic facts to bolster your POV. Btw, there's nothing special about your religion, all of the others claim theirs is the only true religion and their God(s) are the true creators. And many of those religions are older than yours before your Mohammad (Piss be upon him) came along and invented Islam to satisfy his ego. Or maybe there is something special with your religion: totalitarianism, genital mutilation, terrorism, subjugation of women and other minorities.

A similar view was held by the 11th century Arab historian Sa'ed Al-Andalusi. In his book "Category of the nations" he said the following about the Turks: "And their virtue which they skilled in is warfare and its means/tools, they are the best nation when it comes to chivalry, archery and swordsmanship" In another part of the book he says that the Chinese used to refer to the king of the Turks as "The king of the lions".

The American missionary Eli Smith and G. H. O. Dwight, who traveled through turkey at the beginning of the nineteenth century observed that the turkomans were generally called Turks by the Ottomans, who abhorred the name Turk and proffered to be called Musalmans (Muslims). To the Ottomans, “turk” was a name that belonged to the people of Turkestan and the nomadic hordes who roamed the steppes of khurrusan. They considered themselves civilized Ottomans, and could not understand why Europeans called them Turks. As a sophisticated ruling class, the Ottomans looked down upon the Turkish peasantry, calling them esek Turk (Donkey Turk), and kaba turk (stupid turk). Expressions like “turk-head” and “turk-person” were contemptuously used by ottomans when they wanted to denigrate each other.”

This video provides a fascinating overview of the Islamic world's rich and complex history over a thousand years. It highlights the rise and fall of various dynasties, the spread of Islam, and the cultural and intellectual achievements of the Islamic world. I was particularly interested in the section on the Abbasid Caliphate, which was a golden age of Islamic civilization. The Abbasid capital of Baghdad was a center of learning and culture, and the caliphs patronized scholars and artists from all over the world. The video also does a good job of discussing the challenges that the Islamic world has faced, such as the Mongol invasions and the Crusades. Despite these challenges, the Islamic world has continued to be a major force in world history.

hat is the civilizational role that the Arabs and Islam played in that period of history, and their role ended as the roles of the civilizations that preceded them ended, and as the civilizations that came after them are playing now, and then the role will pass to the next civilizations... This is the year of the universe for the circulation of human civilization...

The "gunpowder empires" period is a very interesting aspect of the early modern period that I think many of us tend to ignore. Europe was exploring, East Asia was isolating, but we never really pay attention to what happened in between these two opposites of Eurasia: the parts that stood on the once prosperous silk road. People often just call the Ottomans after the 1500s the "sick man of Europe" and treat the Safavids and Mughals in a similar way but I think that ignores the genuine stability and prosperity they experienced during this time period.
@theodormalte5729

Ottomans were called the "sick man of Europe" much later, in the 19th century. They remained a powerhouse until their losses against the Russians in the Russo-Turkish War of 1768-1774. During the 19th century, amidst internal instability, external pressures, and territorial losses, this term gained prominence, reflecting their weakened state compared to the European powers.
