He would have drawn illegal contact calls because the ball would be gone and players just want to hit him. Mahomes has the ability to evade tackles and still make an accurate pass, so his instinct is to draw out the play and try to make something happen. Tom Brady isn't about to leave the pocket for anything, so he would opt for quick throws. He would also not abandon the run, even if it wasn't working. Lucky for him his line was great and the defense was even better.
