There was a cube sat released from the lander as it descended which was intended to video the lander descent. Because of the weak signal from the lander perhaps because of its remote south pole location it will be a while before and video is available assuming that the cube sat functioned properly.
@R1PPA-C
@R1PPA-C 2 місяці тому
@@michaeldeierhoi4096 Ahh thank you. fingers crossed we get something at least...also hoping the cube sat had direct comms to the lander as back up telemetry not just to flight comms back here... sorry if I'm not making sense but I only found out about this project recently so I literally know nothing, even without having any investment in the mission I was still at the edge of my seat when they were waiting for comms to reconnect...incredibly more so than I have been for any starship launch. I felt like I was back in time with the world watching the first moon landings...Weird sensation for sure
@michaeldeierhoi4096

@@R1PPA-C The latest I have heard is that because the IM lander is on its side it is uncertain if it can release the cam or cube so apparently it was not released during the lander's descent. More info should be released eventually as the signal is still weak. We'll see.

No pics may cause some to speculate... At this point, there is mounting conjecture that all is not as it should be.
@michaeldeierhoi4096
@michaeldeierhoi4096 2 місяці тому
Your use of the term, conjecture in this circumstance is appropriate given that the term refers to guess based on a lack of information which amounts to a waste of time. The Odysseus lander only just touched down on the moon and people are frantic for pictures as if they want proof that it really happened. Observers should take note of what is unique about this mission as opposed to dwelling on what is not yet available. For one this IM Odysseus lander was built on the cheap for a reported 118 $ million which is nothing. It is the first lander that used cryogenic fuel and methlox at that. It is the first lander from the US to land at the south pole. The lander also released a cube sat that was intended to take images of the lander as it approached the lunar surface. All images are likely delayed because of the remote south pole location which may explain why the signal has been weak. Lastly, the most valuable skill to practice during these interim periods waiting for more information is patience which is often lacking in observers and you all don't even have a vested interest in the outcome of this mission.
@RyshusMojo1
@RyshusMojo1 2 місяці тому
@ldeierhoi4096 The AI is strong with this one... "...118 $ million which is nothing". Ok, how about you venmo me a scant 5% of that please, being that it's nothing. Lastly, 'member that time they sent some stuff to Mars and how fast the images came back? Pepperidge Farm 'members.
@michaeldeierhoi4096
@michaeldeierhoi4096 2 місяці тому
@@RyshusMojo1 You do understand what relative cost is don't you?? Relatively speaking 118 million $ is nothing compared to the hundreds of millions for other probes and landers though I shouldn't have to make that obvious statement for context! That IM lander was even LESS than the cost of a couple of other landers like the Russian and Japanese landers.
@RyshusMojo1
@RyshusMojo1 2 місяці тому
@@michaeldeierhoi4096 Hello AI. Snarky AI. Yes, I understand about relative costs etc. I also understand how absurd it is to use the phrase "as little as" when referring to a sum as large as $118M. I understand further, the lander is alas, on its side, confirming my previous conjecture that "all is not as it should be". Buh Bye, AI. This concludes our discussion.

It failed. They planned the mission to have enough fuel reserve to relocate, which means they have enough reaction side firing thrust to reposition by firing initially to start moving, then firing again when they need to arrest lateral inertia at the next site, yet they are wringing their hands because they suddenly lost creative problem solving? It's worse than they are saying if they can't simply attempt to upright it using the side firing thrusters. Don't they have a second model on Earth where they can test-fire my theory while extrapolating for gravity difference between Earth & Moon? It only takes courage, math and "what if we..."

The IM-1 lander sure enough 'landed' but because there's absolutely no word from them today it surely 'crash landed' and the weak signal they picked up was most certainly from a damaged vehicle IMO

They have a press conference set up later today. The latest update confirms the lander is still continuing to transmit and sending data. Independent radio observations confirm this as well

@@sparsh_editx There's more to a spacecraft than just pictures, they've probably been working around the clock to commission it and want to reserve the pictures for the press conference. It's a private company after all, you ain't gonna get instant gratification with a private project.

@@ale131296seems sus, they managed to retrieve images on mars within 20 minutes of it landing , they can’t do it for the moon a few years later? Where is the money even going on these projects

So when are we gonna land another jeep there and have people drive around again like they did 50 years ago? Hmmm? What's the deal with that?

It seems kind of sad if people are still feeling embarrassed because we haven't been back to the moon in fifty years. Of course nobody else has either save these landers from 3 other countries that landed there in the last year. If you understand the reason WHY we haven't been back there is no reason to be embarrassed. The US has been very busy doing other space exploration as have other countries. We are starting to go back more now. That's what is important.

There are way more interesting places to explore. All the ice world moons of Saturn and Jupiter, for instance. Liquid, WATER oceans ! Amazing ! @@michaeldeierhoi4096
