Over the years I have heard horror stories in regards to the customer service at Fjallraven which is ridiculous considering the price of their products.
Recently my Fjallraven Ventilated Trousers experienced a failure and this is what happened when I contacted the company for a warranty repair

So after three years use and thousands of miles of wear including bushcrafting they still replaced, repaired and took care of shipping all for free after rightly requesting proof of purchase. Seems a reasonable request and very good service to me.

If you’re buying trousers that expensive. Think it’s best to purchase them directly with the company in question. That way you should have no issues.

This is why I am weary buying expensive stuff off Amazon. In the past, I've seen companies not honor a warranty because Amazon is not an authorized reseller of their product. And I kind of see why. Amazon is no stranger to the counterfeit market. It's almost like they don't give a rip as long as they get their cut off the top.

I’ve had two interactions with CS. First, a backpack got lost according to FedEx and I reached out to fjallraven to let them know it happened. They sent me a new one with expedited shipping. The original bag arrived two months after the purchase date and I let them know and they mailed me a return label so I could send it back. 2nd, I broke the buckle for that same pack when I closed my car door on it accidentally. I emailed them to tell them that it broke and if they would be able to repair it, and also told them I’d be willing to pay. They replied that I could mail the belt in to have them repair it, shipping at my expense, or they could mail me the buckle so I could have it repaired through a third party. I opted for the latter. They did note that this was exceptional as accidental damage is not covered under warranty. I’m very pleased with their customer service, I want to note that their phone service was super good.

The principal reason I purchased Fjallraven clothing is for the professed quality by the company (regardless of the hefty price tag). In my view, quality is not only evidenced in the manufacturing of a product, but how the manufacturer stands behind their product. If a company will not repair/replace a product not caused by misuse, abuse, or intentional damage, then they do not have a quality product. The fact that they stood behind their product in your case, reassures me that they produce quality products.

At least you got your trousers repaired. When I contacted them about premature wear on both some Kebs and Abisko Lites Fjällräven completely blew me off, denying that such wear even COULD happen to their G-1000 material. I do like the fit and features of Fjällräven trousers but I'm actively seeking alternatives not made from polycotton, which is all G-1000 is. I still have other Fjällräven items, and I like them, but Fjällräven's customer service is an insult just waiting to happen if you dare to question the quality of their products.

I bought the Fjallraven Abisko dome 2 last year in the UK, I had my eye on this tent for quite some time, as soon as I seen it on sale I purchased it, When I received the tent there was loads of loose threading along the skirt of the fly sheet, I contacted Fjallraven and they honestly couldn’t care less, they sent me a copy paste of UK consumer law, they didn’t even care about the issue even though I had sent them a video and images of the issue, luckily the retailer I purchased the tent from sorted the issue out for me, it wasn’t a massive issue as the skirt can easily be re stitched, but that was my insight into their customer service, the tent cost me £700, for something this expensive you’d definitely want that reassurance from the manufacturer. I’m sure many have had good experiences, but for me that’s the last item I’ll ever purchase made by Fjallraven.

Taking into consideration my experiences with other companies and products, warranties and such, I find that customer service story very impressive. I’m equally impressed with the quality of the repair. I find it hard to imagine any company doing any better. Also, 3 years of heavy use before any issues is impressive as well. With the number of scams and crooks trying to game these companies, I find it understandable that they would insist on a proof of purchase before responding. If you are like me, and toss out a bill of sale soon after a purchase, well, it then sucks to be like me. I suppose I should really get a shoe box and start saving receipts, just in case I need to make a warranty claim. Cheers from Winnipeg.

last year went through similar with a pack from the Camelback Tactical Line (used primary to haul groceries by foot weekly ... no personal vehicles at this point). after several years use the stitching on one shoulder strap failed and ripped, other started pulling apart (seams were not sealed / sewn properly). took a while and some back and forth but they replaced it with a current model under "limited lifetime warranty". learned a long time back - buy products with lifetime warranties, take care of your gear, save proof of purchase (i immediately scan documentation and take photos and file the images for easy future access ... also good tactics for insurance claims). helps that i've done customer service (T1/2/3 and management) for *many* years so know some tricks (grin)

I adore my vidda pros and kebs. They fit me perfectly (don't get me started on the cryptic sizings, which also differ for men and women, caveat emptor) and I love the quality. I had heard about some difficulty with warranty, and I have saved every single receipt...in fact I did this with ALL my gear purchases, because as you point out, there are some expensive (and well-loved and well-used) items in a full kit. All the gear receipts are kept together in a dedicated box in my gear closet. I highly suggest others do the same. And yes, it will take a while to find a specific receipt. But for expensive gear, I consider this a form of insurance. Thank you so much for detailing your real-life experience, which simply confirms my concerns.

I had a similar problem with Osprey a few years ago. I had a pack bought for me that after a couple of weeks started squeaking really loudly. Found out it was a very well known manufacturing fault with that pack model to do with the frame and where the straps were connected to it and so it was under a recall. I contacted them and they were totally OK until I said the pack was bought for me as a present by a family member who lives at the other end of the country so I didn't have a receipt. When they heard that they totally ignored every email and I never heard back from them. I gave them the serial number of the pack and everything they had asked for but they just totally blanked me because I didn't buy it myself.
@randyespoda1603
@randyespoda1603 2 місяці тому
What is truly unacceptable is the fact that they decided to fully ignore you. They should have at least responded and explain why they would not be able to assist you any further without the receipt. It's just simple etiquette. I have one of their packs but knowing this, I'll avoid purchasing anything from them in the future.
@MrEvilWasp
@MrEvilWasp 2 місяці тому
@@randyespoda1603 Yep I gave them the serial off the little tab on the pack itself. They tracked it and everything was fine, right up until I told them it was a present so I didn't have the receipt they wanted. I chased up with emails for a few weeks but never got a response so I gave up. My uncle told me he got in touch with them about it as well and they told him because he gifted me the pack he can't claim a repair because he no longer owns it. They were sorry, not sorry at all. That was a few years ago so maybe they've changed their practises now but I haven't touched anything from Osprey since. Haven't used the pack since then because the squeak is really annoying and right by my ear. I don't want to sell it to someone because of that squeak.

When I had an issue with my Vortex scope, I got to speak with a Vortex rep who wrote a book on scopes and was ex military, as he was in his car driving to an appointment. Got back to me immediately and spent generous time helping me sort things out. Sounds like Fjallraven found out you were a youtuber and got right on it. Also the issues you had show the hype with this product. Good pants don't get burn holes and tear outs after 3 years. I suggest you check out Filson field wool pants if you want a better set of pants that won't burn holes around a fire.

I honestly have been avoiding Fjallraven products....I paid over a hundred bucks for the Abisko tarp and the thing leaks. That failure alone makes me really cautious because these guys do not PLAY when it comes to price. It's a risk in my opinion, they use great materials in their stuff no doubt, but a design flaw that defeats the main purpose of the item? That's borderline unforgiveable with their prices.

The trouble I have with these companies and they refuse to do anything and are missing out a growing potential market . My issue is that I am 6ft 9in tall and have a 50 inch waist and a 38 in inside leg. Fjallraven and all of the Big outdoor clothing companies won't make the bigger sizes . I have tried talking to some of these companies and they have refused to talk . One company did talk , eventually and told me , I shouldn't be so fat . The thing is, I am very tall , not fat . I am considered to be slim by my doctor. I felt like getting back to them to complain, but thought not , as I would only get even insulting as I write. Thanks for sharing your adventures and reviewing sessions. ATVB Big Andy from Darlington, UK .

While I know you are probably not “fat” I’m sure the reasoning for not making big sizes is simply larger people will probably never buy these because they don’t go outdoors and do physical activities like their target audience for these products.

May be in the USA , but in the UK, a lot of taller people are getting out to do countryside activities such as walking and camping, so here in the UK there is the market there for such clothing . Its also the same with every day clothing , more so with the Internet shopping sites not wanting to pay the proper taxes and our so called government aren't bothered about the situation, not realising how much they are losing out on . I will stop my rant there or I will lose my temper . 😮😮😮

Thank you for what you do Luke. Just sharing my thoughts. I think that if it is their product, it shouldn’t matter if there if a receipt or not. I bought the same pants from their retail store a few years ago, and I don’t have the receipt anymore. And most people wouldn’t have it any more. So I guess if I run into a problem, I’m outta luck. Doesn’t seem fair to me. But that’s just what I think.

Hei luke I wear revolution race pants and they are a tight fit especially around the ankles. The pockets are smaller compared to the Fjällräven trousers. They do hold up great though I wear them every single day as a guide here in northern Finland and have yet to find a whole/tear or failure in these so that's incredibly impressive. Everyday use is snowmobile riding/repairs, skiing, snowshoeing and making countless fires. I have the GP pro rescue pants from them and they could be worth a review.

I've had to replace the zips on two pairs of Karl Pro trousers. They have been worn quite a bit (and past any 2 yr warranty cover) but the zip is such a lightweight type (same type as your zip at 5:07) that the teeth eventually seperate away from the base material near the top and they get jammed (usually when zipped up!) . Both times I've just taken the trousers to a local tailor and they have replaced the zips with a heavier duty brass toothed zip. Basically what Fjällräven should have used in the first place...

I had the Vidda Pro ventilated pants and while they fit great and I loved the vents, the pockets and everything else about them the material is sub-par. I used them as casual everyday pants and for some slight hiking but within 12 months the seams on the backside had completely worn out and there were holes in the fabric. I've never had that happen with any pants before. And fjällraven, of course, told me they won't cover it. Despite authorized reseller, proof of purchace, etc. Apparently they consider that normal wear and tear. So that was the story of my first and last fjällraven purchase ever.

In my opinion they are great for general outdoor activities and everyday use when I don't need to be anywhere where dressing more formal is required (I recently bought a pair of p40 urban pants for a cleaner look when I need to appear civilized lol)

I bought an Arcteryx rain jacket May 2012, July 2023 glue holding the hood failed. Same process, complete the form, attach receipt, Arcteryx covered it, in full.

There is another Swedish brand called Houdini making good clothes for the outdoor. They did not require a proof of purchase when the zipper on my 6 year old fleece broke. Same quality and high price as Fjällräven.

It’s utterly ridiculous an clearly and avoidance technique for any manufacturer who offers a lifetime warranty and truly stands behind their product to demand a proof of purchase. I took my Tilley hat into the store and got a replacement due to it wearing holes through after 15 years of use…..WITHOUT a receipt! I call bullshit on any company that requires proof of purchase if there’s no time limit on the warranty!

I‘m from Europe and so far had no contact with the fjallraven support,I love them and the price is high but for a good quality.Unfortunately my products where unrepairable and I bought new one. I can tell you about Revolution Race. They have great products and there support works well so far but as you mentioned the pants are tight fit and not made for unathletic fellows with one or two pounds more then normal.😅

Very understandable conditions since they are so many of these sold on ebay in a used or second buyer/seller deal. Original purchaser with proof. Have it, share it with them. If you have that you got your foot in the door. I think they did well. I only have a few products from them. Top shelf items. Since covid the inventories of pants has grown considerable. In the same time I have been getting smaller and have waited to purchase.

I ordered myself Fjallraven Vidda Pro trousers and after daily use for about two months the stitches under the zipper snapped and one of the pocket side stitches has broken off as well. I am talking about just average city use of walking and sitting. I really hope their quality control or materials used haven't gotten bad. 2/10 shouldn't happen to 200€ pants.

I had a great experience. Emailed them on me cutting my pants by accident, they had my only pay shipping but patched them for free. Turnaround was less then two weeks. I did have to have proof of purchase.

Surprised at this.I never had issues with Swedish firm -Revolution-Race when i got a pair of their less expensive but highly impressive trousers.Quite the opposite in fact when i returned them.They were awesome to wear but almost too good for bushcrafting purposes.For this i would now always go 'cheap and cheerful',maybe military stuff.? but the returns process for RR was extremely efficent to say the least.

I've thought about buying these before but they consistently don't have my size. 34" waist is apparently either extremely popular or too rare to bother making.

I wish hiking pants companies would put all zips on their pockets. A while back I bought some hiking pants at REI called Craighoppers that had all zips but the material is very thin but they are alright for summer hiking.

I have a number of pairs of Kuhl pants and would say that their customer service is phenomenal. I had a couple pairs of shorts that wore out prematurely in the crotch area and they replaced them at no charge and didn't ask for proof of purchase.

I’ve bought many Fjallraven products in the past but one time I had to have a zip replaced in a primaloft jacket this was done after 4 years so I’m guessing out of warranty? they did it without any issues they took care of the shipping also..I’m in the uk and had to send the jacket to Holland I believe…it was back within a month.

I wear Revolution Race pants and I understand your statement. I'm tall and thin so they actually fit me well as opposed to the usual baggy look I sport with other brands. I lose weight backpacking over the summer and need a belt w/ other brands. I love RR.

I like the look of the second pants mentioned, maybe you need to get sizes larger - sizing in the United States is just a mess, it takes me forever to find clothes that fit comfortably. It's always better to get clothes a size too big because you can take it in, that's what I do. The high price for a pant that lasts that long after wear and tear seems reasonable to me, I would buy those.

Fjallraven is below par with customer service and I stopped buy their products, (New Zealand based) Have many of their gear but my last experience I have to say I will spend my money elsewhere. Pretty much they never responded to my questions and sad thing it was just a sizing issue so an easy swap would be expected but as they are online store only in new zealand it turned up to being a disaster. Now I had to on sell a new product using local ebay. So will lose money.
