Nice video. Pro-tip: Pressing the two left buttons on the heater controller at the same time puts the heater into "Alpine" mode. A mountain peak icons will appear on the top right of the display. This cuts the pump rate in half and is helpful to keep the fuel / air mixture lean at altitude or to reduce the heat on the lowest setting, when low is still too hot. My 5kW heater is too powerful for my old VW bus on the lowest setting so Alpine mode makes it just right.

Just survived 24 deg in low desert of AZ . Didn't use any heat overnight. Just blankets. Admittedly I did turn on propane heat for a bit in the morningt to take chill off inside camper( with ventilation of course) BUT normally survive single digit cold overnight in high desert where I live with NO heat overnight.

I know my diesel cab heater in my crane is unreal efficient! Love that thing, when i pull up to a job, first thing i turn it on, then set the crane up, and by the time I get back in the cab it's all cozy.

i live in the uk i have three of these running in my home the heaters are placed outside in large plastic storage boxes you do have to drill two 75mm holes drilled in exterier walls. The heaters exhausts our vented out of the plastic storage boxes the hot air out is ducted into your home and the air inlet is vented out to via the holes and the air is circulated round and round heating the rooms very effeciently the 12v control is placed inside between the two vents it looks very neat on low alpine setting i get 7hours run time on 1litre of diesel

My improvement to my diesel heaters was to add a 12 volt LED light inside the case to illuminate the top of the fuel tank so I can see the fuel level from a distance. I also added a fuel filter on the pump inlet as I had 2 pumps quit by jamming up from dirt particles.

In that same vein, that@@Bobster986mentioned, you held up something at the beginning of your shoot, we couldn't see it well because it was against your dark blue shirt - in the shade - with a bright background. Your camera's light meter was reading the bright background - which was perfectly exposed, but that was not the subject - you and the product were the subjects. The suggestion of filming against the house is a good idea or, if you wish to keep the same setup and position, using a strong fill light beside the camera would work, too. The beauty of the fill light is in the daytime, there would be no harsh shadow in the background to deal with! Great subject and test! Amazing how long that heat ran on low! I may consider it as an option to heat my garage in the winter - run it on high for a while then turn it down lower for the duration! Thanks!

I recently purchased this same unit and had similar results. My additions were/are: 200cm (78”) stainless steel exhaust replacement and an 8Ft insulated duct. My purpose was an emergency backup heat source for the home, though I may figure out a way to use it with our camper as it works really well and is quite portable. My testing (so far) has been performed indoors…and I agree about the quiet part. It’s not bothersome (for us) at all. My temp setup has the main unit elevated on blocks on a granite hearth located in the livingroom. Exhaust is routed out a nearby low window and is sandwiched in between two pieces of ceramic tile with the window pressing downward to hold everything in place. I’m running it right now…main house heat is off…it’s 35 degrees outside. Unit is set on 2.5 (which will run for 22 hours on a full tank). The unit is on the main level of the house (main level = about 1600 sq ft) and temp readings within a 15 foot radius are at 70-71 degrees. Temp readings out to about 25 Ft are at 67-68 degrees. Will this heat the whole house? Nope. Is it a fantastic emergency backup that will keep you comfortable and keep pipes from freezing? Absolutely (IMO). For anyone wondering, yes, I have two CO detectors in place…one is a few feet above the main unit and the other about 15 feet away…near where we sit in the living room. Thanks for your video reviews…I enjoy them! Cheers

What do you mean it won't heat a whole house? How can this be possible. There are a ton of videos on UKposts showing a clay flower pot and a small candle heating a whole room. Are you telling me all those videos are lying? 😁 On a more serious note, what power source are you using to run the heater? Also, you said you put it on the hearth, why not use the fireplace for your emergency heat?
@goodoz9942
@goodoz9942 4 місяці тому
@@rogermccaslin5963 I'm powering a similar way as Sherburn Outdoors. A while back I assembled a small backup power station for our living room. A few large 12V batteries in parallel and a small inverter (700W). All of that sits inside of one of those old style moving trunks so when the lid is closed, it actually looks like a decoration. The heater gets its 12V from there via a fabricated cig lighter plug setup. With 400AH of batt capacity, it'll run for days on a charge. The fireplace is a gas insert (no chimney). So long as the gas is running, the insert "will" heat the whole house...but if gas should ever be absent, the diesel heater is one of a few means of emergency heat. BTW, I have "not" purchased any clay pots or candles 😆

We have a Webasto heater and a heat pump in our air conditioner installed in a 21’ off-road camp trailer. Unless the outside temperatures are less than 40°, we use the heat pump as the diesel heater cranks out some serious heat. Our Webasto is mounted in the front of the trailer and we routed a duct to the rear and insulated/enclosed the underbelly of the trailer. Floors are warm in the morning and no frozen water tanks or pipes. Diesel heaters are great!

I was intrigued by the "no ticking" headline, thought maybe someone had come up with a different type of dosing fuel pump. Nope. This one sounds exactly like either of mine until the high fan and exhaust roar drowned out the pump noise. Also in the product description from the provided link all they say about high "altitude" operation (they mean elevation) is don't use it above 9800'. This controller looks identical to one of mine which has an "alpine mode" to slow down the pump frequency at all settings, maybe this one doesn't have that. The blue controllers have an automatic elevation feature that seems to work. In automatic (thermostat) mode the unit will not shut down if the ambient gets too warm, it will only go to the lowest setting. This is a good thing because both the shut-down and start-up cycles use a ton of electricity and when your battery dies not only would you wake up cold instead of too warm, eventually you'll have a fouled glo-plug or combustion chamber. Adding a fuel filter is always a good idea.

1 liter of diesel contains 10kw of energy. In order to put out 5kw that heater would need to burn half a liter per hour. 1 gallon of diesel contains 139,200 BTUs of heat, if a gallon lasts 30hrs, it's putting out 4,640 BTU/hr of heat. At 11hrs the heater is putting out 12,654 BTU/hr. Other diesel heaters are not less efficient....they merely produce more heat by burning more fuel. Some actually put out 18-19k BTUs/hr.
@janhemmer8181
@janhemmer8181 5 місяців тому
You probably mean 10 Kilowatthours, that is the unit for energy, not Kw, that is for power.
@Richard4616
@Richard4616 4 місяці тому
The diesel fuel burns and the energy is turned into. He said the exhaust is 250 degrees. So half of the fuel is wasted by the hot exhaust and the other half is for heating. If it was built like a high efficiency home heater, you would get somewhere around 80 percent efficiency instead of 50 percent efficiency. But it still makes usable heat.
@Walkercolt1
@Walkercolt1 2 місяці тому
In the US, "clean-burn" diesel has closer to 130,000 BTU's per gallon (6.6 pounds) and that's what you get at the pump. "Red" (off-road ONLY) has closer to 138 K of BTU's per gallon. The EPA mandated the "heavy ends" be removed from truck/auto diesel in 2018 or so. Some guidelines: A 1500 watt electric heater is rated at about 5000 BTU's per hour. The small unvented natural gas or propane wall heaters (bathroom sized) are usually 10,000 BTU's per hour, so 20-25% more on max. You CAN capture at least 50% of the exhaust heat with a little sheet metal work, so 16,000 BTU per hour is do-able.
@christinamoneyhan5688
@christinamoneyhan5688 4 місяці тому
I would conger up a heat exchanger for the exhaust to capture the waste heat for hot water or additional forced hot air.

I’m a truck driver and we use a modified version of this called a bunk heater The bunk heater that installed on these trucks use about 1 gallon of fuel in 8 hours I don’t think that 1 gallon would run for more than 24 hours unless it was like 50 degrees outside Based on what you are wearing, I would say that your outside temp is over 60 degrees maybe warmer Fuel consumption will definitely depend on air temperature That thing looks awesome Since I use them every winter on the truck I can tell you that it is a badass little heater

(South East Canada) My biggest issue was power, I ran out of power (12v car battery) to operate it and the biggest issue with that is it didn’t allow the thing to cool down and risk cracking the core and leaking exhaust or worse. At 9 volts it will shut down and maybe not allow it to cool properly. I’m investing in a solar pane, charge controller and deep cycle battery and trying it again this weekend but the weather has improved. I’m going to be too hot even on Alpine mode. My exhaust is also wired up so it can’t vibrate loose from the bottom of the heater. I have 2 x 24V lifepo4 25ah power packs with 24v 700w inverter to charge my battery but it’s pushing the limits of the inverter and very inefficient.

at the curent diesel price here in canada , thats close to about 8$ a day (roughly 2$/ liter) for 1 gallon. 30 days to a month and thats about 240$ for 30 days of heating. I think a well insulated building would probably be better to go with a supper efficient heat pump/ mini split with a seer level of about 25 or higher and hspf rating over 12 and that mini split wont cost you more then 100$ a month to heat a 24x24 insulated garage plus you would have AC for the summer with the same unit . But when electricity isnt readily available , then these little heaters work fine

Get the Bureck CD Thermostat that replaced your wireless remote. It will clone the remote and now you can set temps to turn on/turn off. $50 to $70 depending on which one you choose. Bureck is an Idaho company.

Since it is a diesel generator, it could easily convert to run on used cooking oil. Being that I work in a restaurant and have access to many gallons of already filtered used cooking oil this may be a good buy.

No it can't. You'll be replacing your burn chamber in a very short time. Also, there is no ratio that makes it viable. Just use diesel or parrafin or kersoene, whatever is cheapest for you, besides used oil.

I use it to heat my house cheap. It costs me 80 euro's a month. When I use LNG it costs me 400 euros. And I have it 22°C all day. Don't care what the calories of diesel is. Just care what it cost per month. When the prices got crazy in Europe it saved me thousands of euro's.

I like the idea of a battery in the system so in case of a power failure there is power for the proper cool cycle. So for continuous running there would be two ways to do it. One, a battery with enough juice to do the start and a psu to furnish the constant juice for the run mode. Or a small battery with enough juice to run the cool down, in other words a failsafe, and a large enough psu to do the start and run modes. How many amps at 12v was this needing to run in the high mode after it has fully started? And did you see what it requires during the shutdown cycle?
@jaybanks7718
@jaybanks7718 5 місяців тому
I bought a 12v power supply with 30 amps. It starts and runs it just fine. I think a 20 amp would work. My heater came with a 15 amp fuse. I just plugged the power supply into a UPS battery backup, so I didn't have to fool with a battery and charger. It only needs about five minutes to cool down, and I won't leave it running while I'm not around. The UPS should easily keep it running for five minutes.
@helpful5539
@helpful5539 5 місяців тому
@@jaybanks7718 I had thought of using a ups as of course it is in fact a backup and it recharges itself. And if it dies it still lets 110v through, you just get the alarm going off that its battery has died. They aren't too expensive. I am mostly finding people say it takes like 8 amps maybe a little more to start and like 2a when it runs or shuts down. So you are good on all of this. Thanks for your info.
@jaybanks7718
@jaybanks7718 5 місяців тому
@@helpful5539 The only thing I can add is that the power supply I got has a fairly loud fan on it. When the heater is running, it makes no difference. When it isn't, it's kind of annoying. I'm just turning the power supply on and off with the UPS to kill the fan when the heater isn't on. I got a great deal on the PS at Amz. It was less than 20.00. If I was inclined to pay full price for one, I would get one with a power switch on it, or no fan. Other than that, turning it on and off with the UPS works, too. It's just that I have to let the heater cool off, then go back over and kill the power supply.

That's what I don't like about those Bluetti type generators, they simply don't have enough capacity to justify the price. You can get a 100 Amp hour LifePo4 battery for around 225 bucks. But that heater is da bomb. You could heat a camper with the exposed exhaust pipe alone. LOL Nice test, thanks!
@chip6954
@chip6954 3 місяці тому
Well, to be fair, for the extra $425 of the AC180 vs a 100ah batt, additional to the 96 AH capacity of the AC180, you get an 1800 watt (2700 watt surge) pure sine wave inverter, an MPPT solar controller (good for 500 watts), all of the ports you need, a good app, a portable 30lb footprint, 5-year warranty, and my favorite - 90 minute charge time from 0-100% (often charge at coffee shops/laundromats or use my small gas generator). Yeah, I could piece a DIY together and maybe save a few bucks but that's extra $ for cables, ports, enclosure, cost of time to source/build, longer charge times and no warranty on the final build. I started with/still use a 200ah LiFePo4 batt bank (2x mini power queens in parallel) in a milk crate but ended up getting the AC180 for the ease of use and charge time. Probably re-wire my power queens (awesome batts, btw) in series to back-feed my AC180 at 24v.
