0:49 - That's not what Entity-Component System means. ECS is an alternative to Object Oriented Programing. In OOP data (variables) and logic (functions) are bundled together (in a class). In ECS, data is separated from logic - so this is called Data Oriented Programing. Godot is at it's core an Object Oriented Engine and you can't change that. Nodes are Classes and your scripts extend these classes. What you are actually doing is making your code modular, which is great, everyone should do that.

Actually there is an ECS version of Godot called Godex, so as far as the interface is concerned you can change that and it has already been done.

Not correct, ECS does not necessarily imply DOD. They just happen to be a natural combination, but you can implement an OOP-based ECS architecture just fine.

So glad to see you're using the actual sites on actual gun models. That was one of my big pet peeves. So many commercial games just use An overlay for sighted in. Really curious to see if you can accomplish this with your scope/holographic as well. I found it wasn't too hard. In my game project But I did my own modeling to get it to work properly.

so far so good, one tip that i think can make the viewmodels feel less static is to make the guns move around depending on how the player is moving the camera, like in half life 2 and weapon move when you look around, i think it called sway in the source engine.

Good idea, but I'd hate to see it implemented while aiming down sights. Escape from Tarkov is an egregious offender because you look 1 degree left or right and suddenly you don't have sights anymore.

I know this is still early stages, but have you decided on what type of design for the weapons are you going for when ADSing? Are you going for the COD style where everything is very clear and enhanced, or going for something more realistic like EFT or Insurgency where 60% of the screen/view is covered by the gun and attachments ? :P

It's a fake "approx" number with the intention of a joke. I don't know the % but the actuall "point" of view when you ADS is much more clear and zoomed in in CoD for example, vs Insurgency Sandstorm. In insurgency, at least personally for me, I cannot use Holo. I can't see well. And MRO is the worst, just like in real life.

Judging from what I've seen so far in the comments people love the quirkiness of this halffinished style, including some animations and sound effects. I think a good approach would be to embrace this, as aiming for realism would be too much of an undertaking for one person. What I mean is to have a game which is polished and well thought out in its function but in its art style, sound design it could remain quirky. I think this stylistic approach is one of the main weapons indie developers have against big studios.

Might be worth looking at doing your recoil in patterns similar to how CSGO does it, where each weapon as a distinct recoil shape that can be tweaked on a per weapon basis, providing more variety for each weapon, and allowing players to learn how best to control each weapon in their arsenal.

What I'd do is set the origin in the models to be along the sight lines. That way it's really easy to make them line up with the camera, and it works no matter which gun model you use.

Because the textures on the AKM are so dark you can't actually see the recoil very well. At least while ADSed, compared to the AR. There also isn't any muzzle climb, which could help, visually. The recoil just goes straight forward and back. That could make sense on some guns but probably not with an AK stock without muzzle attachments. Realism isn't important but making the animations feel right is.

You should add an empty node that has the position of the ads position and that way you can add the same empty on all weapon objects

You should look into videos about lowered crosshairs in first person shooters. It's used in Halo, Destiny, and even Far Cry 5. If not the default, it would at least be good as an option. Personally I find ads intrusive due to it blocking almost half the screen. Lowered crosshair fixes this issue, and does a couple other things. Just can be hard to get used to, hence why I think it could be good as an option in some sort of settings menu

i was skeptical about the guns being projectile-based -- i mainly play games like cs:go, gmod, etc. that being said, i think the way it's implemented might actually be a fun way to step out of my comfort zone. it doesn't seem like it's so slow where leading your targets will be a task in and of itself, but it also isn't purely tracking. i dunno what im talking about, this game isn't out yet and im talking somewhat out of my ass here

Need to change the rate of fire for each. AKM - 600 rounds per minute, M4 700 - 900 rounds per minute (based on experience I would set at about 750 -800).
