One was taken in Arizona in 1879, and the other when Doc was just a young man graduating from dental school. But what about the other images? Whether the photo is legit or not what I find more disturbing is the historian reaction. Laughable. I get it. People always making claims. Facts matter. But it just comes across as smug and set in their ways and destroys the fun of it. Obviously I'm here because I care about the truth but the truth isn't what really attracts anyone to the Old West. It's the legends and the romanticism. I think a lot of these historians have forgotten this. Which is exactly why I'm here listening to Josh. I'm sick of know-it-all crusty historians. Josh has made it fun again. Thank you, sir.

Yes you are correct no one can tell with 100% certainty about a photo that is 140 years old. All they can say with certainty is it appears to show a person or it does not appear to show.

There is reason we call that period in history "the Wild West" is because It was "wild" in many, many ways, not the least of which is fact vs legend. And perhaps it is better that we keep it that way, lest our excited imaginations be crushed by boring & mundane facts. I think perhaps we need to keep our wonder & imagination stirred and it's fires stoked. Very nice piece! Thank you sir!

Very interesting video as always Josh. Out all the Wild West era figures. I always found Doc Holliday and Billy the Kid the most interesting. Always wondered is there anything written on how Doc Holliday and Arkansas Dave Raudabaugh got along? I have read different stories about that some claim that they were friends and others seem to think that Doc Holliday would have ended up shooting Dave Raudabaugh?

Very interesting video. Yeah, that famous photo of Doc really is John Escapule. My main thought regarding the authenticity of these photos is that someone should use facial recognition software. They've done that with some alleged photos of Josephine Marcus, Wyatt Earp's longtime common law wife. Why not do the same with Doc's alleged photos?

Thanks! Unfortunately the facial recognition stuff doesn't work very well with these older photos. There have already been numerous facial recognition IDs that turned out to be false and sadly there are forensic experts who will ID anyone for the right amount of money. I think eventually we will get to the point soon where they'll be accurate, though.

Pretty good! One small fact, though Holliday did play poker for fun, he earned his living as a faro dealer. Hit me up if you want to do an episode on faro and other Wild West gambling.

@@WildWestExtravaganza another thing: Masterson sold that photo to Outdoor Life magazine. Bat was known to have sold many fake relics of his time in the West (as were Wyatt and Josie Earp). Bat didn't like Doc, so his having a photo of Holliday would have been unusual, where selling a picture of some guy for money would have been typical. I believe (could be wrong) that the cabinet card was found in Wyatt's possessions after he died. Wyatt carrying a photo of his old friend (despite the falling out) would make sense. The cabinet card also has a verified signature of Doc. Bat Masterson was also a faro dealer as well as being a friend and ally of "Soapy" Smith, who was one of the most notorious con artists of the 19th century.

It's amazing how much the first pic in question looks like Michael whats-his-name who played Ringo in Tombstone. As for the picnic shot, the eyes/eyebrow/bone structure look identical to that of the younger Doc, as well as the Earp features being like theirs, despite whatever bad rep anyone attached to the pic has. **Just my opinion of course**

Hey Josh. I know you’re a grown ass man. However I have a question regarding a video game. See I completely forgot about my affinity for the Wild West stories due to life getting hectic and keeping me preoccupied. However at the beginning of the year I was gifted a ps5 and a copy of Red Dead Redemption 2. I’m not even a third of the way through that game, and it has some accurately depicted stories and characters in the storyline. This game has re sparked my interest and it’s because of that game that I have looked out for these types of channels on UKposts. Have you ever played RDR2? If not. Will you? Even if you don’t make any videos about it (understandable) however you absolutely must check this video game out. You get to “go back in time” and be the badass you know you would be if alive in the 1800’s

I always figured the reason he was so popular was that he was more myth than man. Plus there's a shared experience amongst men some more than others some only have one day like it but we all have days where we feel confident in doing something near suicidal just because we are sick and tired of life and it's nonsense. If you KNEW you were gonna die you'd be even more inclined to take those risks on those bad days.

He was much skinner in the end of his days. Like last part of his life. Although he did look like that; in a way. It’s not him. Just look up doc Holliday on his deathbed. You’ll see a pic of him sitting in a chair skinny as hell, and it’s the sanatorium picture.

Pictures with very hard to come by for example there is only one that I know of of John Ringo. WHO WAS NOT AND COULD NOT HAVE BEEN KILLED BY DOC HOLIDAY.

And the pictures that we know are actually of holiday it does look like a very I'll man far too thin. I like to get the real stories of the wild West even though sometimes there are not as romantic so thank you for providing that.

There is a picture of doc Holliday that is really doc. You can tell the man is sick and too thin for his frame. Plus as I always said., they had blonde hair and a blonde mustache this hair is black and the mustache is to. Jet black you can't make blonde hair look jet black. This looks nothing at all like the authentic picture of doc holiday. So I have to say I have always thought they made a mistake here
