Hi Luke, can you share which piece of music is it @22:35? Sound so nice and relaxing. Really enjoy your content and especially those outdoor adventures. Especially on some of those camera angles where you walk by the camera and so on. To the viewers it is a nice shot, but how many take the time to think about the setup and the test of the shot to make it happen. The time involves. That is passion in your art.

As a female who camps alone I cannot stress enough to follow your gut instinct when out in the wild. Always be prepared for anything & be willing to leave your camp for awhile if needed. Have multiple forms of protection on your person. I also take extra gear to look like more people are with me. But following your gut is your best defense imho. I've avoided a few campgrounds due to a bad gut feeling. I've left a few in a hurry as well.

I had a Rottweiler when I was RV'ing for several months. That dog could see, smell and sense things 1,000 times better than I could. So the few times he got excited in the middle of the night. I made sure my personal protection was ready, loaded and in position. I never had to use it, his bark was intimidating enough to scare whatever it was that was out there.

In case anyone hasn't let you know, that was an iridescent cloud, it happens when the clouds droplets / ice crystals diffract light in that sort of rainbowy / multicolored way. The version you're seeing here is likely the start of a pileus cloud, often found above tall t-storms or mountaintops (usually the mountain ones are lenticular clouds though). My husband and I were married in 1985. Together we have done a lot of backpacking and truck bed camping in off-road remote areas of the USA, since 1984 and especially through the rest of the 80s and 90s. My husband was always packed and was prepared with a weapon to use if necessary. Why? Well we definitely wouldn't need it for the animals - they're afraid of people. They have the fear of man in them. My husband always said, "It's 'man' who is the 'most dangerous creature' out there, because they're unpredictable." You never know what man will do, so we'd always take along a weapon to protect ourselves with. Sad but absolute truth. Check out how many people have been murdered through the many decades while camping... by 'man'. Animals are predictable, but man is not predictable. Stay wise and safe. Thanks for the enjoyable trip. Beautiful country!

I used to go tent camping with my buddies at one of the busier camping areas in Alaska. More than once we had what we called “camp raiders”. Guys who just show up and want to hang out. We were usually a group of 4 or 5 men with guns, so we were usually hospitable toward the visitors (even though, I never really liked it). Usually they just wanted to warm by our fire and talk about camping. Once we had a guy ride in on a dirt bike. The guy pulled out a bag and asked if we wanted to smoke some weed. We didn’t smoke weed so we declined, but one of my friend’s 14 year old sisters was with us so we told him not to even get it out. He didn’t like that, but he obliged. Then one of my buddies was standing next to the lake and this dude walked down next to my friend and pulled out a .22 pistol and started shooting in the water. My heart jumped and I started looking intently at my friend’s jacket looking for dark spots to appear trying to see if he was being shot. I had my hand on my .45 auto. My friend did not get shot so I didn’t draw on the guy, but we immediately told him he had to leave our camp. We told him it was because of his reckless behavior with the pistol. He left without any further issues and he never knew that 2 of us had pistols ready to go on him (plus 2 others with shotguns in the tents). Yeah, sadly, camping can be dangerous in certain areas.

Part of that time was spent going all over the US doing wild land firefighting as well . That was an absolutely fantastic job , and believe it or not I actually got paid for doing it !!! I've never had a better job or one I enjoyed more. The law enforcement part I didn't enjoy all that much as there were some tense situations that arose from time to time like busting meth labs and removing squatters from the National Forest . We weren't authorized to carry but being a former military combat vet my forest supervisor kinda turned a blind eye to that sense he knew what threats we may run into on the trail, 2 or 4 legged and neither were uncommon . Bear and Moose and meth labs were the biggest issues though. I'd normally be out on the trail for 2 weeks at a time doing trail and shelter maintenance, building trails , doing wildlife and forest improvement projects and what ever else needed doing. It wasn't uncommon to be pulled off the trail though , to do high angle rescues , search and rescues or causality recoveries as that was a big part of the job too. I was a certified for high angle rescue, was a SOLO First Responder and was close to being a fully certified EMT as well as being on Fire/ rescue in my town for > 37 years , with tons of other related certifications . There is allot of climbing areas here in NH & VT both and incidents were common and there was only a half dozen of us in all of VT & NH that were certified for that job so 2-3 rescues or searches a month were quite common and much much more during the peak hiking and climbing seasons, Winter or Summer. Lots of folks got themselves into situations they weren't necessarily ready for and when the weather went South on some of these razor back ridges above timber line and in back country/ wilderness areas we got lots and lots of time in doing rescues or recoveries . Mount Washington was " No Joke" when it came to rescues, with >100 mph winds and well below 0 degree f wind chills being common, even in Summer. Some of those above timber line , razor back ridge rescues in those conditions were just a bit sketchy to say the least and could be quite a challenge ! I'm an old coot and disabled now from some of my rescue adventures and am no longer able to carry a pack or hike long distances and even going 2-300 yards at a time now can be a challenge at best, but I still have all my memories after years and years spent in the forest and I don't regret one moment of it, other than being all bunged up so I can't hike anymore. That part sucks to be honest . But don't feel bad for me, in my day I've had the opportunity to do 2 end to end hikes on the AT, did the Long Trail several times, the PCT, the Continental Divide Trails and have done every 4k ft and above peak in the US and most all the major trails in Alaska plus a couple others in Canada and even a couple in South America as well , so I've defiantly had my fun. I was know as "Talks With Animals " on the trail with a turtle symbol being my mark . I've been told many rabid hiker aquatnences that some of my shelter tags and the 2 petro-gliffs I've carved on rock faces along the AT are still present on some of these trails and in shelters where I've been at, so look for them in your travels they could pop up most anyplace in the US and Canada . I still get a taste of the good life after retiring though sense I bought a nice large piece of property just below the highest peak in the area here in VT and my homestead is in the middle of the forest right next to 2 incredible brooks running through my land that are filled with Brook Trout with tons of other wildlife all around me . There's nothing but State , Federal and timber company land surrounding me and there's only 4 neighbors on this entire section of road and nothing after that for 6 miles, and that road section is closed 5 months out of the year for snow or mud. This new homestead is like I've never left the forest and I couldn't be happier. Life is good here at the High Mountain Homestead ! Enjoy your travels as I have, you won't regret it.

I may be tripping. But this guy actually exhibits some signs of addiction. The whole qualification about not being much of a drinker. Only a social drinker. So much a social drinker he has a flask filled with whiskey. The fact he goes in to the stories about all the other addicts in his family and how he literally invents an addict out of a coyote. The qualification against being lazy because a lot of people attribute addiction to laziness when you can have both productive and lazy addicts. I think it's at least possible this person suspects that they may have some addictions and unfortunately our society only teaches us addictions are bad instead of how to take accountability and get help. I'm probably wrong but since they felt the need to just judge people mask off I figure it's fair play right? Turn about?

That rainbow at the top of that cumulonimbus storm cloud is most likely an iridescent pileus cloud, also called a scarf cloud or cap cloud. Pileus clouds are small, horizontal, lenticular clouds that can appear above fast growing cumulus and cumulonimbus clouds. If the pileus cloud is high enough to be made of ice crystals, the sunlight angle is just right, and the viewer’s angle is just right, then the sunlight can be refracted by the ice crystals to make the rainbow iridescence you saw. The pileus clouds aren’t necessarily rare but the iridescence is. So congrats! You got to see something rare and beautiful. 😊

Agreed about the photography! BTW this wasn't a sundog, a sundog is part of something called a parahelion, where a halo forms around the sun and there's two "false suns" (usually rainbowy) equidistant from each other, which wasn't going on here. This is a stretched out cloud on top of a thunderstorm that's called a pileus or sometimes "cap" cloud, and it's also "iridescent" which means it's diffracting light in that fancy rainbowy way. As an outdoorsman, your most important virtue is awareness. Never be so focused on what you're doing that you don't notice your surroundings at all times. Predators of all kinds take advantage of your forward facing vision. Your eyes should be constantly panning, constantly surveying your surroundings. I do a lot of SUV camping and use a big tarp too to give me that flexibility to shield me from sun and the rain - one side of the tarp is sun resistant- gives me extra space to camp cook too even if it’s raining. It’s a pretty sweet set up that I use when I work at festivals too. My bed is a combination of sleep pads with a topper with a sleeping bag and travel blankets for chillier nights. I blackout my windows to give me privacy and use mesh fabric made for doors and the back section of the suv to keep out flies, mosquitoes, midgies and sand flies. For toilet- a sturdy bucket with biodegradable bags and cat litter and for a shower use biodegradable wet wipes or a solar shower for when I’m really needing it if there’s no river near by. Always carry plenty of water, extra jerry can of fuel, and jump leads with battery if the SUV battery is flat.

Thank you for this video. At about 10:10, I have learned to accept myself wherever I am, however I am. If idleness is imposed on me, I have many subjects I can contemplate, and many memories I can recall. Sometimes, enforced idleness can be a blessing, especially if it brings me face-to-face with a serious issue in my life, causes me to discover a way to approach a great opportunity, or allows me to recognize a major blessing. I do not believe in the "Everything happens for a reason" nonsense, but when Life hands me lemons, I try to make lemonade.

Luke...as someone who hitchhiked alone thru 49 States over a number of years, I can honestly say You're right. Her "laughter" reminded Me of the stories about the Manson family. One thing I never did was go out drunk or high. Never. Either I went on the road straight and sober or not at all. Yeah, Those Country areas can get really scary. (W. Virginia comes to mind) The vibe that radiated off your video today felt bad. Somehow the thunder and her weird laugh and even seeing You drinking felt wrong. (I gotta say it, Luke) I didn't really dig the mix. It's just MHO, but it probably saved My life more than once. Substance abuse sucks.
